Here we go with the "feminism" speech again.
I called it bev's tape because she's my rep and my priority.
What's my biz with Angelo. The only reason I wasted my mb downloading it is becos bev was in it. If it were angelo and someone else I wouldn't give a hoot.

Exactly, I don't like the way bev generalizes when making her points. I cant blame melvin for not knowing treatment is free, he probably doesn't have\know people with hiv to know if treatment is free or not. I also don't either.

I can forgive you for not knowing that HIV treatment is free but as for Melvin, lai lai.

Is it that he has never been tested? Cos if he has, he should know better because irrespective of your status, there will be a small counselling session. If negative, you will be told to always practise safe sex, and that you should endeavour to come back in 6 months for a re-test bla bla bla and if positive, you will be advised that it aint the end of the world and told to commence your anti retroviral edication ASAP. Even if he has never been tested, doesnt he listen to jingles on the radio and tv? Countless adverts abound in both the electronic and print media by Society for family health and other bodies saddled with the responsibility of battling HIV in naija.Like the saying goes, IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE. Its even worse for a sexually active Nigerian not to know this and we all know the status of his sexual activity. IN MY OPINION, that is a very reckless and irresponsible statement to make on a forum as huge as BB.

Maybe he thinks officials of the federal ministry of health go to work only to eat like he is doing in BB. HIV is a massive issue worldwide and for anyone, an adult at that to think naija is treating it with kid gloves just speaks volumes of the person's ignorance or non challant attitude. Com'on man.

Angelo's dairy:
His mood has
changed after the task, he
now appreciates more what
they have in the house. He
made people aware of the
purpose of the task and is
happy about their progress.
He sat back and let people do
the task, expressing
themselves. Fasting was very
hard, they over cooked but
feels guilty of having so
much.
HIV/ AIDs: everyone is aware
of it though people take it for
granted. He feels they should
advertise more in party
places, night clubs. It should
be more interactive at the
level of the people not just
preaching.
How he has been affected;
friends that have died, people
he works with in the
entertainment industry. He
says its not someone's
downfall. His motto is trying
to take care of what he has,
so that he can be an example
to other people. Biggest issue
in his country is alcohol
abuse, road accidents and
HIV/AIDs as well. He will try
to show people the harsh
reality of drinking and driving.
Public service announcement
is to make the AU aware that
there's a way to integrate and
attack extreme poverty that's
what his video is about, he
hopes his message comes
across well. He stands for
growth, education and
anything that builds Africa,
he's against negativity
surrounding Africa and
people who leave Africa to go
to other countries for a
better life and do not fight for
what Africa is about. He says
africans should always try to
be positive, there's a lot of
possibility.

Dont mind those bloody ignoramuses. Particularly that Melvin guy. With all his Masters degree. Na real wa for am.

IMO and i stand to be corrected since I aint a health care practitioner, the only area naija as a society needs to battle regarding HIV is the stigmatisation. We still have a long long way to go in that aspect. But anything else from testing of patients, to public sensitisation, to management of HIV, naija dey try.

Elikem's diary:
Fasting wasn't
easy got a slight headache
but it was for a good cause.
Made him realize what people
who don't have go through,
makes him encourage those
concerned to do more.
Poverty in Africa is a huge
thing that creates a lot of
things, diseases come with it.
He's now in a movement no
backing down.
What he has
learnt from the info packs~
AU is already doing their thing
but they still need to push the
cause, feels his voice is going
to help a lot the show gives
him a larger voice. It starts
from individuals, they need to
urge governments more.
Raising awareness~ HIV/AIDS
is real. Its the first thing
people need to know coz
some take it for granted until
people close to them die. He
adds that people should use
the ABC rule, if you stick to
these three rules its ok but it
goes beyond, there are
different ways of using the
condom. Both formal and
informal education is
important. In his chase tour
he's going to add all these
causes on board. He feels the
show has given him a bigger
voice. Also hopes to ride with
his bikers to different places
and educate or donate
something to the people.
Biggest issue in Ghana~
malaria, he feels educating
the people on how to prevent
the disease can help. He
stand for eradication of
extreme poverty.

Yes. I agree with you. But the fact is, you walk into most government hospitals, you get tested free and if your status is positive, then you are counselled and given medication for free.

This reminds me of my first attempt to get tested back in 2007. I visited the general hospital on Broad street, Lagos. I was so scared and i was looking out for the tiniest excuse to call off the test and that included any form of payment. So when i got there, i was like how much did it cost to get tested and i was shocked when the nurse responded that it was free. See as i weak. Despite that, i still run commot o.

Melvin never said he doesn't know if HIV treatment was free or not,he was washing plates when the convo was going on..the people discussing it were beverly, cleo, dillish and elikem.cleo and dillish said it was free in there countries then bev and elikem said they don't know if the treatment is free or not in there countries.Expect there is a particular convo where he said otherwise, but the one i watched he wasn't part of.

Bimp's dairy:
The fasting was
difficult but made him realize
what people go through
though he has gone through
a particular situation in his
life. They knew it was going to
be only 24 hours but can't
imagine what people who
don't have food for a week go
through.
Why poverty is such
a big issue in Africa; he
imagined everything being
dark and having nothing to
look forward to.
HIV/AIDs
means to him personally; has
lost an uncle to Aids and saw
how that affected his family.
The disease has become part
of our day to day lives in
Africa and affecting us in so
many ways be it resources or
human power. In his country,
a lot is being done but a lot
should continue being done.
For the past 15yrs awareness
has been done on TVs,
radios. He believes that
condom commercials have
changed to more of a
business promotion than HIV/
AIDs. He thinks its not right
for the new generation.
Biggest issue facing Ethiopia
at the moment and what can
be done; all of the problems
they've talked about so far.
This week has made him
appreciate his government
more when it comes to
power, AIDs, famine/ hunger.
All these have changed. More
needs to be changed but
hopes more should be added
to it. They are facing child
mortality rates especially in
rural areas where hospitals
are rare, there's rape,
arranged and under age
marriages that bring about
diseases like fistula. As soon
as he goes back, he's going to
find a way of helping.

Melvin's diary:
The mood is
good, he's happy everybody
abided with what they were
supposed to do. The task is
not about their wager, its
about reaching out to people
and they want to nail it.
Information packs have so
much information, there's a
lot of improvement especially
on the issue of HIV/AIDs.
If he has been affected
personally by HIV/AIDs;
recently he was talking to a
friend whose dad owns a
hospital and she told him
about a lot of HIV positive
people who receive treatment
there and are educated about
it. It gave him an insight of
what to do.
Biggest issues
facing Nigeria currently; all
the problems they've been
discussing are there though
doesn't have the figures, he
thinks the one issue is power,
something he's going to talk
about in his 30sec video. He
says 70% of industries in
Nigeria depend on fuel and
that's a big loss. If power is
improved, it can improve the
economy. His Public
announcement video is 85%
ready.

All of them were present during the conversation. I also did not hear melvin say that, but I heard cleo and dillish say its free in their country. I also heard bev say people in nigeria had non challant attitude to hiv\AIDS and that girls are more positive in nigeria because of abortion and bla bla.. I only said I can excuse if melvin said that when juststh(my apologies) reported it cos I am also not aware. Doesn't mean its cool though.

Furk, don't go too hard on melvin, even if he indeed said it, I can still excuse it. He made some other valid points which I appreciated.
