Chapter 158 Early in the morning of the following day, i woke up to see Chinelo kneeling down at the edge of the bed. She was praying with her head covered. When she finished, i asked her if she had been doing that or if she had just started, she didn’t answer me. She just smiled and crawled back to the bed. At about 8am, we checked out together and drove to her house, the same place i had taken her shoes the first time i visited Ghana. She still lived there with a friend. The friend was there when we came. She watched as we stuffed Chinelo’s things into a bag one after the other. ”Where you dey go, Jessica” she had asked. She didn’t tell her. It was I, who told her that Chinelo was going back to Nigeria. She had mixed feelings about the whole matter. After packing her belongings, we drove to Tudu, changed some money to Dollars and boarded a Young Shall Grow luxurious bus going to Lagos. She cried as the bus headed east towards Lome. It was already night when we got to Lagos. We stopped at Maza Maza and took a cab to Surulere. We paid off the cab and walked up to my apartment. My cousin had not returned from the village. I had called him when we stopped at Maza Maza. I took Chinelo to the guest room and told her that she will live there until we secured a one room apartment for her. She had asked who owned the place and i had told her that it belonged to my cousin. I didn’t want her to start forming funny ideas in her head. After taking our baths, i showed her the kitchen. We had brought some noodles from Ghana. She cooked and we ate. We sat in the parlour and chatted until it was time to go to bed, then we went to bed. The following morning, i called Chinasa and told her that i had returned. Chinelo was there with me when i called. She had asked if it was my girlfriend that i called and i had nodded in affirmative. Chinasa had said she would return to Lagos in one week time, according to her, the transport fare back to Lagos was still high. Life had started to return in Lagos. Some of the people who had gone down to East had returned from Christmas holiday. Some shops had started to open, especially those who sold cloths. I told Chinelo to get ready, we were going to idumota. When we got down, she stood and watched as i pulled of the taupolin over the BMW. ”Is it your car” she had asked. I nodded and continued what i was doing. After dusting it, i went to the boot and connected the battery socket. I entered the car and started the engine. Since Jennifer was claiming to have changed, i selected a Christian Gospel song from Rev. Fr Ejike Mbaka and started playing it. She sang along with the speakers, as we drove out of the compound and headed towards Idumota. I took her to a ladies shop and bought her decent cloths. All the cloths she came back with were body tights that fitted the business she was doing in Accra. I had changed about $300 that returned with me from Accra and used the entire money for her and her things. I had also taken the $200 i had given her in Ghana and used it to buy a bag of rice and some other food items for the house. While i lived with my cousin alone,, i didn’t care much about food items, i ate outside most of the time. My cousin was a business man who sold ladies shoes and he was doing fine, he could take care of himself. But since a woman had come to live with us, it was better that we had foodstuffs in the house. All the way back from Idumota to Surulere, Chinelo cried inside the car, she didn’t listen to me when i told her to stop. She didn’t tell me why she was crying either but i knew that she was going through emotional period in her life. She needed the tears to cleanse her heart. When we got home, we carried everything upstairs by ourselves. I had carried a 50kg bag of rice alone and had felt some pains on my body. After settling down, she took the mop and cleaned the whole house except my cousin’s room which was locked. There was an Igbo woman who had a beauty shop in Adetola street. It was located near a bar joint where live musics where played sometimes. The woman didn’t go home for Christmas, we had driven past her on our way back from Idumota. After cleaning the house and cooking rice, we ate and went to the beauty shop. I wanted Chinelo to learn the beauty business very close to the house where she could be walking to from the house. I wasn’t going to be giving her transport money to anywhere on daily basis. I knew she had returned from Ghana with some money. I didn’t know how much and i didn’t care. Asking women for money was like asking a kid to give you his or her biscuit. ”Madam, please i want this my sister to learn the hair dressing business from you” i said to the woman. There were two other ladies making their hair at the shop. They all looked at me as if i had said something that was out of the world. ”Oga where are you from” the woman asked. I haven’t covered that part yet. Chinelo and i came from different states. ”I am from Enugu state” i said, trying to keep the answers short. ”Oga, there is no problem but we will write an agreement” she said. I told her that it was fine with us. She asked us to return the next day. When we got home, Chinelo started to cry again. I got upset. ”What is the crying again for? You have bee crying since we left Accra. Don’t you ever get tired of tears huh”? I shouted at her. She continued her crying without even looking at me. When she calmed down, she said she still didn’t believe that i had a heart to do what i was doing. She said she thought i was a devil and that she had been praying to God to punish me ever since i took her phone and her shoes in Ghana. She said she was just too ashamed to accept everything i was doing for her. I told her to calm down. There was always a reason for every person we meet in our lives. ”Love is our true destiny. We do not find the true meaning of our life by ourselves alone, we find it with another person” 26 Likes 2 Shares |

Chapter 159. One thing had baffled Chinelo since we returned. I had not asked to sleep with her. She had been sleeping alone since we returned. I had told her that she had had enough sex for the next two years and that she needed to start a different kind of life. I also told her that she was free to find a boyfriend since i was still with Chinasa whom i believed would kick against Chinelo living in the same apartment with me. But i was a master at controlling difficult situations. I knew i would manage them when it came to that. We had gone to the beauty salon the next day and made a paper agreement. The agreement read that Chinasa would learn the business for six months and would work for the woman for another six months or she would pay N30,000. It also said that she would buy a carton of malt, a carton of cabin biscuit and a bottle of wine for the lady. We had agreed and signed the agreement before we left. When we got home, we analyzed the options and agreed that Chinelo would work for the woman for six months after her initial six months. I had convinced her to take that option since it would help her make more customers of her own from the madam’s shop and would also make her perfect the styling and other things that was attached to the hair dressing business. She had agreed. She was going to start work in two days time since the following day was a Sunday. That Saturday evening, i deliberately took her to the ‘good day’ hotel in Adewuyi street Ijesha. The hotel was like the hotel in Ghana where sex workers lived and worked. We had sat down and bought drinks. She had refused to drink alcohol but took malt. We had watched as men took women to the chalets, slept with them and paid them. She didn’t say anything. I wanted her to see the good and bad sides of life in Lagos, then make her choice by herself. When we got home, she asked why i had taken her to that place. ”Chinelo, you are above 20 years. You are old enough to make choices. I really want to know how much you have changed but its only time that will tell” i had said to her. We ate garri and vegetable soup she had cooked. She was a good cook. I had all of a sudden, stopped eating outside. I had figured that the N1000 i spent eating out daily could cook for two people and i was right. My cash was running down and i wasn’t interested in asking people for money. My diamond bank account had a little over N1.5 million naira in it, though i could still source money if the need came. I was supposed to return to German embassy again at the end of January. On the Sunday January 7, my cousin returned from the village. Chinasa returned too. She came to my house as soon as she returned. We had all sat in the parlour. Chinelo watched as Chinasa climbed all over me, telling me how much she had missed me. Chinasa didn’t ask who she was. She must have thought that She was with my cousin since Chinelo didn’t care about how Chinasa was climbing all over me. Chinasa said that her People had not returned from the village. She had been sent to clean the house first. She said she would sleep in my place that night. Chinelo had heard her. I wasn’t looking at Chinelo’s face, therefore i couldn’t figure out how she felt when Chinasa said she would sleep over, but i was sure it must have been hard for her to swallow. However, my cousin who was a shy person had been trying to make some advances on Chinelo. He had asked me who she was and i had told her that she was a friend of mine who had returned with me from Ghana. He had asked if she was my girlfriend which i had tactical avoided to give a direct answer to. But when he saw how Chinasa was trying to swallow me, he felt it was an opportunity to go for Chinelo. He had started talking with her and when it was time for bed, i had gone into the room with Chinasa while both of them were still at the parlour. My cousin who was known for sleeping early had all of a sudden, stayed awake until 11pm. As early as 5am the following Monday, i had heard some people talking in the parlour and when i opened my door, it was them. Chinelo and My cousin were going for a morning mass at the Our Lady Of Fatima Catholic Church Aguda. I had just looked at them and smiled inside. I was actually enjoying how their relationship was developing. I was in a dilemma over how i was supposed to introduce Chinelo to my cousin. Despite the fact that i almost single handedly paid for the apartment, i believed that i didn’t have the right to just bring someone into the house without discussing it with my cousin. They had greeted me and walked downstairs to the Church. While walking back to my room, i had wondered how my cousin would react if i told him what Chinelo was doing in Ghana. I also wondered if Chinelo would be bold enough to tell him. It wasn’t my business. I believed that everybody deserved a second chance. It was the second chance that brought Chinelo down to my house in the first place. Everything she did in Ghana was in the past and must be left there if only she could continue the new life she had found. ”Baby where did you go” Chinasa asked as soon as i crawled inside the bed beside her. ”Bathroom baby, i went to the bathroom to ease myself” i lied. Some lies were necessary to end unwanted conversations. ”But there is a toilet inside the room” she said. She was half asleep but yet managed to ask dangerous questions. I didn’t know what she was thinking but it could be that she was monitoring my movements with Chinelo. ”I didn’t want to wake you up, that was why i went outside to the general one” i lied again. She seemed to have resigned as she turned her back on me and covered herself with the blanket again. ”I love you baby and i don’t ever want to loose you” she said from under the blanket. ”I love you too sweetheart” i said. I had to say something too, whether i meant it or not. It was time to sleep again. ”It is in our moments of decisions that our destinies are shaped” 12 Likes 1 Share |

Chapter 160. When i woke up around 7:45am, my cousin who was known for going to Idumota as early as 7am, was still at home. He was spotted in the kitchen frying eggs with Chinelo who seemed to have settled down perfectly. I called both of them to the parlour. ”It seemed you both are getting along very well. That is good. However i need to make some things clear first. Andrew, i haven’t told you the conditions of Chinelo here and i believe i need to let you know. She wanted to return to Nigeria and Learn hair dressing. She is starting work today. I have taken her to a salon down the street and made agreement for her. I also planned to rent a small apartment for her in due time but she stays here for now. I was going to tell you but it seemed that you already like her” i said and smiled. Chinasa walked out of the room to listen too. I needed to use that beautiful opportunity to break the ice. I knew my cousin won’t complain at all. I had just brought home a girlfriend for her. I needed to let him know that Chinelo was not going to be a one night stand. If he was going to sleep with her, he better knew that she wasn’t going anywhere soon. ”Its ok, she can stay here. Nobody lives in her room” he said and smiled. A feminine presence was needed in our apartment too. One of the reasons why i ate outside was that i hated washing plates and pots. I believed it was a job for women or children, not a field soldier who should concentrate on how to survive in the street. When we finished the meeting, I went back into my room with Chinasa. ”Do you mean that she is going to live here with you” Chinasa asked. ”Yes but not here in my room” i said with a little sarcasm. ”Its not funny. I don’t want her here. Who is she by the way” she said with harsh tone. ”Since when did you begin to decide what happens here” i asked. ”Since now. If you don’t tell her to leave, i am going to tell her to leave by myself” she said. Her voice had risen up and Chinelo could even hear her. I tried to go out but she held my cloth. ”wow, has it gotten to this” i said. She kept quiet but still held my cloth. Women and funny ideas. I was sure Chinasa was planning on how to relocate to my place and live. She had never said it but the way she behaved told me that she had something in mind. ”Don’t worry baby, she will leave. Can you please leave my cloth first” i said. She left my cloth. I opened the fridge and grabbed a bottle of whisky. I needed to calm my nerves. I was almost tempted to beat her up but there was always a better alternative to violence. Chinelo walked past me in the Parlour and announced that she was going to work. I bid her goodbye and continued my whisky. My cousin had left some minutes back. It was just me and Chinasa left in the house. I wanted to ask her to leave and go home to her place but i needed to have some patience. She was definitely going home before mid day since her parents would return to Lagos in the evening. I drank and Waited. Around 10 am, she said it was time for her to go and demanded that i drove her home. ”I am drunk and i can’t drive now” i said. She looked unbelievably at me and said that i was joking. ”I said i am not going anywhere. Is this how you behave Chinasa. So i fought against Clement for you only for you to come and fight me here. I hope you still have his number because you are going back to him if you continue this way” i said. The statement seemed to have jolted her back to reality because she started crying. I knew good tears when i see them, she was just crying out crocodile tears. ”Alright, i will take you home. Have you bought the foodstuffs you said you would cook for your people” i asked. She cleaned her eyes and said ‘no’. What exactly was Chinasa thinking? I had told her that i had every intention to return to Europe. How could she think that she owned me? How on earth can hot tempered man not beat the hell out of a woman like that. She was only interested in chasing Chinelo away. She didn’t care where she would end up. Chinelo, a girl i had just brought out of the dangerous street life was being threatened with street life again by Chinasa, a girl who was just a girlfriend. They haven’t even introduced themselves to each other because incidentally, they both came from the same local government. ”Do you know that Chinelo is from the same place as you” i said. ”I don’t care. I don’t want to know. Is that why she was looking at me like that yesterday night” she said. Looking at Her huh? I didn’t even notice anything. Women were funny sometimes. How did Chinasa expect me to achieve the objective of chasing someone away from my place. Not that it was such a difficult thing to do but that was the same situation i found myself with Jennifer in Portugal. Right inside of me, i was hundred percent sure that Chinelo was going nowhere. Anybody who wanted her out must find a house for her and pay for it with his or her own money. One thing i hated in women was nagging. I had a sister who was Chinasa’s age. She respected and worshiped me like a God but this Chinasa had the gut to hold my cloth and give me order to chase someone out of my place because she had slept with me. She was definitely going to pay for everything she did or said. The long arm of my revenge didn’t know who was who. The things i considered were always the offences. Stella was still my girlfriend when i took my revenge or her and her mother and so was Linda and others. The rubbish from Chinasa was going to end that day. Somehow i wished my cousin had not encroached in on Chinelo, i would have just replaced Chinasa with her.she she seemed like a good girl. I put on a shirt and walked downstairs with her. We drove to Ijesha market and stopped. I gave her N2000 to go and buy the foodstuff. As soon as she left, i drove off and back to my house, then locked the gate and went upstairs. ”I’d rather regret the things i’ve done than the things i haven’t done” 12 Likes 2 Shares |

Chapter 161. ”Baby where are you” the voice said from the other end of the phone call, it was Chinasa. ”I am at home” i said and kept quiet. ”What! You left me here and went home” she said. ”I told you that i can’t drive” i said. She cut off the line. I called back but she didn’t answer. As i expected, she was angry. Anger was necessary to right the wrongs between us. I had hoped that she could exploit the two options available to her; one was to go home to her place and the other was to return to my place. She went home to her place. That could be the end or may be not. I lay on the sofa and slept until the Power returned, then i watched a movie. Chinelo returned a little past 5pm. She had called to find out if i was at home due to the keys. When she came in, she said she had heard everything Chinasa said in the morning. She also apologized for putting me in such a difficult situation. ”Don’t worry, she is gone” i said. The news shocked her. I had just said that my girlfriend was gone and she knew it was because of her. She had slipped into that mental state where one felt as if he or she was a disturbance to the people around him or her. ”You don’t have to worry about Chinasa, you didn’t cause anything. You only exposed the kind of person she was. The women of nowadays want a ready made everything including men. Go to the kitchen and cook if you have strength” i said. She left for the kitchen while i started drinking from the whiskey bottle sitting on the center table. I got tipsy and called Chinasa again. She didn’t answer. A few minutes later, she sent a text message asking me never to call her again. According to her, she said that she had left her boyfriend because of me and i had betrayed her. I thought about what she wrote. I didn’t betray Chinasa. She was the person who betrayed her emotions. She wanted a fellow woman to be thrown off to the street because she thought she owned me and the house. She could think or say whatever she wanted, it was her life. After reading the message, i got angry and replied her. ”Is this how you want to end the relationship” i had sent to her. She didn’t reply immediately. She waited until about 8pm before sending a new message. ”Yes, that is how i want to end it. You can go to hell for all i care. Stupid illiterate. Live with her if you like” she wrote. She was obviously angry. Her anger had pushed her to insult me and call me bad names. As i sat there on the parlour, i was boiling inside. I never knew Chinasa could say nasty things to me. All of a sudden, i smiled. An idea had formed in my head. Chinelo who had come to drop food for me on the table asked why i was smiling. ”Nothing baby, just nothing” i said. That was the first time i had called her baby since we returned from Ghana. She was surprised and it had made her relax a bit from the tension created by Chinasa. My cousin was sitting on my right hand side too. He was already eating his food. I took a spoon and Started eating the beans porridge she had cooked. After eating half of the plate, i wrote a message and sent it to Chinasa. It read: ”I am sorry for what happened. It was the handiwork of the devil. I will send the girl away. Remember you promised to stay with me. I won’t hurt you again”. A few minutes after sending the message, she called. ”Baby i am sorry too for calling you stupid. It was the devil” she said. Yes, lets blame the devil. The devil was the cause of every damn bad thing that happened to us here on earth. My next plan was to draw her close again and give her a punishment that was directly proportional to the insult she gave me. The first thing that came to my mind was to invite her somewhere and show up with a different girl but after careful thoughts, i concluded that it wasn’t enough for the insult. ”Please don’t call me bad names again, i don’t deserve that after everything we have been through” i said. The phone was on speakout. Chinelo and her new boyfriend were there. They had heard everything. When the phone conversation was over, i started laughing. Chinelo was alerted. ”No no no, this is not good. Don’t harm her please, i know what you can do. She is just a woman” Chinelo said. She had already found out that the plea bargain was just to draw Chinasa close to me again. She had witnessed that first hand in Ghana when i had tricked her into believing that i had forgiven the money she stole from me. She had totally trusted me until the final minute when i took her phone and shoes. ”Don’t worry Nelo girl, i don’t wrong people, i only revenge. The silly girl sent me a message calling me a stupid illiterate, simply because i refused to chase you out of the house. She will pay for that insult” i said and frowned my face. My cousin who had been keeping quiet asked what was going on. I told him that my girl didn’t like his girl. He laughed when i called Chinelo ‘his girl’. It was what he wanted to hear. ”Baby i want to come to your house tomorrow” Chinasa said. She had called me again while i was on my bed. I told her that it was Ok to come. She said her parents had returned. ”We will go to the beach to reconcile properly tomorrow” i had said before sleeping. That night, i had a dream. I was being chased by a demon. I ran to the entrance of the Synagogue Church of all Nations but the gate was closed. I had turned and faced the demon. We had fought for long before i suddenly woke up. I had tried to make a meaning out of the dream but i didn’t believe in anything beyond my comprehension. Dream or no dream, i was going to the beach to finally put an end to the relationship between me and Chinasa. I still remembered that very coconut tree where Chinasa had left Clement, that was where i was going to leave her as well. I believed she would never forget what was going to happen to her the following day. She started it anyway. I was just a finisher. ”All things wicked truly start from innocence” 13 Likes 1 Share |

Chapter 162. Early in the morning of the next day, Chinasa woke me up. She said she had thought over what she said and had cried over it. I never liked tears. Tears never solved anything. The only time i cried out tears was when John the bighead impregnated Agnes back in Germany while i was busy looking for money. Ever since then, i had vowed never to cry again. Tears were meant for the weak minded people. What was Chinasa talking about? What did she mean by saying that she cried after calling me a ‘stupid illiterate’?. I had a very funny mind and mentality all my life. I believed in corrections. If i had made any mistake in English or any other language, she could have just corrected me. I had tried to recall everything i had said to her. I wanted to know if i had made a mistake but i couldn’t remember. I had also recalled back in Brandenburg Germany when Ndifor from Nnewi had tried to make every other person look silly because he Attended IMT or Esut Enugu. I had punished him by refusing to give him drugs. He had apologized on his knees before i gave him anything. How on Earth could a girl that slept with me chose to insult me because i said i wasn’t going to send another woman to the street. The anger emanating from my thoughts had pushed me up from bed to the fridge where i had opened a bottle of whiskey and drank directly from the bottle. After the drink, i showered, wore a dark pair of Levis Strauss Jean and a dark T shirt. The day was going to be bad and sorrowful. Chinelo had woken up and prepared Pap. I hated pap all my life, therefore i declined. She thought i was angry for something. ”Something is worrying you since yesterday. Your mouth is already smelling alcohol this early morning” she had said. ”Go to work and leave me alone” i said. I had sat on the sofa and drank until about 10am, then i called Chinasa and told her to come to the house. I told her that i should have come to pick her up but that there was no need crossing over the Oshodi-Apapa expressway. She came and we drove to Lekki Beach. I wanted to stop at bar beach but I wanted to end it under that tree where it started, i also wanted to be further away from town. We got to the Lekki beach and packed our car along the road. I deliberately left my phone inside the car. She had left her small hand bag inside the car as well. The handbag contained her phone and some small money. We walked hand in hand down to the beach. I was holding a half bottle of whisky with the other hand. We got to the edge of the sea and stopped. We talked. She apologized for calling me a bad name and said it won’t ever happen again. ”Of course it won’t ever happen again Baby girl. I thought you were different. I fought against a rich kid for you just to make you have a say in your own relationship. I did everything for you. I chased away all the girls i knew because of you. Now i don’t have a girlfriend.” i said. ”baby but you still have me” she interrupted. ”It was there at that tree over there that our journey started” i said as i pointed to the coconut tree. ”Lets go there” i said. ”I still remember vividly, how Clement felt when you got up and walked away. He had wanted to get up and follow you but my thugs were there too. He couldn’t do it. He was a defeated man. Thugs, yes i became friends with thugs just to scare him away. I thought you could have made such a wonderful companion. Not the wife who would curse the husband if he disagrees to do something that she asked” i said as we walked towards the tree. We got there and sat down. ”Let me see one of your shoes. I like it” i said. ”You know the shoes, you bought them” she said. ”Yes but i wanna look at it again” i said. ”Baby please stop drinking that thing, remember we are still going to drive home” she said as she handed me one of the shoes. It was already mid afternoon. The beach sands were already hot. I took the shoes and stood up. ”I am going home now. You are going to beg for transport money back home, you are also going to wear just one shoe back home. You will come to Surulere tomorrow and pick up your shoe and your handbag with the phone.” i said as i started to walk away. She stared at me as if i didn’t mean what i was saying. ”Baby please come back here, i hope you are not serious” she said. I was already 50 meters away. She suddenly got up and started coming towards me. The hot sands were hurting her leg. I quickened my pace and ran across the sand to the gate, then i ran to the car, started the engine and drove away. Right there at the beach, Chinasa was without one leg of her shoes, phone and money. She was just with her flowing gown which i had bought for her, it wouldn’t allow her to run. As i drove back to Surulere, i considered what i had done. It was such a bad thing but the punishment fitted the crime. In the Nigeria system, bad mouthing wasn’t considered an offence but an individual was a nation of his or her own. I drove straight to the Police station near the stadium along Western avenue. Inside the office, I reported to the police officer that i had gone to the beach with my girlfriend but she had refused to follow me back. I told him that she had also refused to carry her bag from my car. The officer had asked where the bag was and i told him that it was in the car. When i finished making my statements, he said that i should bring N1000 for the file and some other documents. I gave him N3000 with Chinasa’s bag and left. Along Masha road, i threw away the shoe and drove towards Aguda. I stopped at the beauty shop and saw Chinelo washing somebody’s hair. She didn’t see when i came. I had stood there and watched her for almost two minutes before she was told to look back. She had smiled at me but when i didn’t smile back, she knew that i had done something nasty. She had seen that look on my face back in Ghana. She excused herself and hugged me. ”What have you done this time Zuby” she asked. ” Every moment and every event of every man’s life on earth plants something in his soul.” To continue reading, click on the link below.
