Nice!!

But why do people always crack jokes about Ibadan peeps? grin

In the UK for example; arguably between 30-50% of all the Nigerians here, are from Ibadan and Oyo/Osun state axis.

So Ibadan can't be that bad.

Gatts love for Ibadan people!! cool

@ngozi shocked so, enugu mall is just two stories high?

We have the Heritage Mall which is fully built and financed 100 per cent by Odu’a Investment Company cool. The total cost of the Mall on completion is about N1.4 billion. We financed this project almost 90 per cent. It is a four-flour building cool. The ground floor is the basement with a parking lot for 200 vehicles. The first floor is the major shopping mall for our anchor tenants. On this floor is a banking hall with ATMs,” he stated.

naptu2: Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose! smiley

I remember that we had Kingsway at Marina, Leventis at Apapa, UTC on Broad Street, Bhjosons on Awolowo Road, CFAO/Moloney @ Moloney Street, etc.

A young girl was shocked and exclaimed, "Did you have cinemas in Nigeria in the 1970s?" I burst out laughing.

Now we've got The Palms Lekki, Adeniran Ogunsanya Mall, City Mall, Silverbird Galleria, etc.

In the 70s/80s, there was also a Leventis at Surulere near Akerele, near the Super Cinema and a main post office.

aycsharp: I am proud to come from Ibadan, yes Ibadan has over a million brown roofs kudos to ancient civilization from the Yorubas, when other tribes in the country were living in "channel 0" kind of houses. Show me a city in Nigeria without urban slum and it shows how naive you are, most people talking on nairaland have not even left their enclaves to see some other parts of the country, modernized places in Ibadan are more than the ancient places, I stand to be corrected any time. Having toured places like Enugu, Awka, Onitsha, Asaba and even that poor Abakaliki, comparing any of those to Ibadan is unreasonable and really stupid because Ibadan is safer, cheaper to live, more westernized, more industrialized, even now cleaner than those south eastern cities. And the big part of it is that as the south eastern cities are crawling in terms of development, Ibadan is running, Each time I visited Ibadan now, I was always happy because of the changes I saw. So stop comparing any south eastern city with my beloved Ibadan.

south west is well urbanised bt only Lagos is developed, dats y no s/westner cn ever be proud of his/her state, all of dem waste dia telling oda regions to leave lagos 4 them. Ado - ekiti is 70% mud house. Ibadan is nt older dan kano or zaria, dia rusted roofs simply show dat d residents r broke. Enugu is far ahead of ibadan by any standard apart frm size and age. Öne gud thin abt SE is that you keep seeing beautiful mansions bt d bad tin sha is dat dey dnt cluster 2 form large cities as in d SW

The truth is that anyone whose knowledge of Ibadan revolves around the Lagos-Ibadan expressway shouldn't bother to comment on the city. You need to visit New Bodija, Ring Rd, Oluyole, Jericho GRA, Idi Ishin, Ashi, Agodi GRA etc to form an opinion.
The rusted roofs show early development. Fact is Ibadan people have villages but they have family compounds in the ancient parts of the city.
I have been to Enugu several times. Its not bigger nor better than Ibadan in anyway.

But why is there a KFC outlet open in Ibadan and none in any city in the SE?

The GDP of Oyo State is higher than that of any state in the SE

The landmass of Oyo is almost as large as that of all the states in the SE combined

These are unarguable facts

And just in case you don't realize, businesses like Shoprite, KFC and even Mr. Biggs do intense business analysis before opening anywhere

If any state in the SE can't attract KFC at this time, it only shows that the disposable income in that region is extremely low

Banks typically move to regions, states and cities where the money is

There's no Federal Character in that.

How come a typical Igbo bank like Fidelity has 4 branches in Oyo while it has only 3 in Enugu and Zenith Bank has 9 branches in the old Yoruba city while Enugu can only boast of 6?

Kingsway meatpie! At first you could only get it from the department store, then they created Kingsway Rendezvous (there was an outlet on Broad Street, near the fire service headquarters). Kingsway Rendezvous eventually became Mr Biggs.

There was also a Leventis outlet near Broad Street.

I didn't want to say anything here just like you; I had as at yesterday even un followed the topic but decided to come back when I saw the nunsense you posted.
Asaba is far from being referred to as a capital, considering the allocation Delta State gets. The size of Asaba, comparably small, should have partly contributed to its development. Asaba unlike many capitals is not an LGA, but a town in Oshimili South LGA. This is unlike other states that have upto two or more LGAs constituting their capitals. For example, Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South make up Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State. Akure North and Akure South make up Akure, capital of Ondo State. Ibadan Central, Ibadan North, Ibadan North West, Ibadan South East, Ibadan South West and Oluyole make up Ibadan, capital of Oyo State. Umuahia North and Umuahia South make up Umuahia, capital of Abia State. The population increase in Port-Harcourt has made the government to extend its developmenal strides to surrounding LGAs like Obia/Akpor, Eleme and Oyigbo. Has Delta State Government extended its developmental 'strides' to Okpanam in Oshimili South LGA just as Asaba? Their former Deputy Governor's Office beside St Brigid Girls Secondary School falls short of being referred to as a private property.
My friend, go back and study Asaba. Their airport is as silent as a graveyard. Their TV station has poor quality picture.

i don die! laughing out loud at all the comments.

d guy putting up GdP Fgures should go and sit down because yorubas cant lay claim to more than 10 per cent of it, the GDP is thanks to those foreign firms of which shoprite is going to be among soon. the CBN has introduced cashless economy in only Abuja and 5 other states of the nation because these areas house 90% of the cash flow in nigeria- Abia, Anambra, Port Harcourt,Kano.where is a yoruba state? if u even look at all these states mentioned , u find out that igbos are heavily involved in all of them.

u ppl dont even have shame. none of the yoruba cities can match up to enugu and owerri, at all in terms of any city aspect,so u guys should quit trying bringing up justifications for poverty.

CyberG:

What can of worms? Do you expect Ibadan, a developed city-state way back in the 1800's to be compared with Enugu or anywhere in Ibadan just discovered in the 1900's? I live in a city in the West in which they started building it 500 years ago (you will not believe it except you see it!) Here, there are big new buildings but there are buildings so old, they do not have any central ventilation system, why? Some of them were constructed in the 1920s and I am talking about a 4-Floor building! Now, anyone who compares the older buildings here with the newer ones built in the 1980's and after MUST be insane! Are you insane? If not, you would understand what those brown roofs in Ibadan mean!

Secondly, do you know that the city passed a law NOT to demolish the old buildings? You know the solution they found? Well, architects now redesigned the houses and rebuilt them on the inside without destroying the old-outside architecture in order to PRESERVE THE HISTORY of the people! Now, will you compare that to a new condo development built in 2013? Use your brain except you've never left Nigeria in your life you will have no clue! Think - don't you know the shiny buildings of today will be old relics in another 100 years? Well, that was how developed city-states like Ibadan were a hundred years ago before iboland or anything called ibos existed! And FYI, do not compare the entire iboland to Oyo State for the size of that one state is just about that of the entire iboland like someone pointed out!

You see your ignorance is appalling! So you travelled through Ibadan and it means you've seen the entire state! I bet you have never seen all of Enugu after years of living there but that single State is bigger than anything you can imagine! Have you been to Oluyole, Bodija, Ashi, Bashorun, Jericho, UI, etc to see development that Enugu only started trying to copy in the last few years? Those places have been built with grade A tarred roads since before I was born! Don't be stoopi.d!
