CHAPTER TEN

This chapter is dedicated to Dorocute. I want you to know that we all have a story to tell and there is always sunshine after the rain.

Jerry parked in front of a mansion. Linda was too upset to be taken aback by the beauty of the house. Daisy was sleeping and she clutched her against her bosom in an attempt to cover herself.
Jerry helped her out. He quietly observed that her eyes were swollen. She followed him in like a walking dead.
Inside, a heavily pregnant woman went on her feet as soon as she entered.
'welcome dear'
'thanks'
she looked at Linda intently.
'who is she?'
'Linda, Henry's wife'
'what?'
'take her upstairs. Give her the room next to my sister's'
'but that room has not been occupied for years'
'i know my dear wife. Just do as i said'
The woman obediantly led Linda upstairs. No introductions were made. She left and Linda began crying all over again.
She slept off and awoke later to some noise. The grandfather, Jerry and Obed were talking in hush tunes.
'Henry will sure have a fit. You brought her here'
Obed said.
'it seemed the right thing to do'
Jerry defended.
'i will make those two girls pay. See what they did to her'
The grandfather said.
'no father, We both know that Henry will not take it likely with you interfering in his affairs. Allow him to clean up his mess'
'I think she is awake'
she snapped her eyes opened and two fat tears rolled down her cheeks.
She turned her face to the wall and the three men took the cue that the lady wanted to be alone. They all found their exit through the door.
A Woman walked into the room much more later and introduced herself as Obed's wife. She brought in some clothes and a nightie, placed them in the closet and disappeared with Daisy in her arms. Her husband had specifically told her to not disturb the woman.
The family fought over who to take custody of Daisy. Unfortunately for them all, Obed was the only one she allowed to hold her.

Henry returned the next day by 12 midnight. He was tired and very worried.
Linda's phone had been switched off and a call to one of the maids proved that she had not spend the night at home. He called Tara and nearly shouted when she said Linda was not with her.
He had taken the next available flight back to Abuja a day before his business will be completed.
Henry ran up the stairs and found her gone. Daisy's room was empty and her phone number was switched off.
Lucy came in with an envelop.
'sir, a man brought this yesterday. He said i should give it to you as soon as you returned'
he snapped it open and read the content.
'Your wife and daughter are with us. Come get them when you are back'
it was signed, Jerry Raymond.
Henry swore, he picked his car keys and left the house. He arrived at the mansion by 1:06am. He knocked angrily at the gate.
'who are you?'
the security asked. Henry recogniced the voice and was suprised that the man still worked for the Raymonds. He knew the man so well and had played pranks on him.
'it's me, Henry'
'Henry? Madam Helen's boy?'
'yeah'
the man opened up the door for Henry. He walked into the house to find the men in their sleeping clothes.
'Henry, you woke up the whole house'
'where is my wife?'
'upstairs, in your old room'
'i do not have a room here'
'you do Henry. You slept there whenever you visited'
'Okay'
He made to go up the stairs but Obed and Jerry held him down. He struggled to free himself to no avail.
'before you go charging in there with the Joseph's anger, you need to know what happened'
Jerry calmly told him. Henry looked baffled.
'what happend?'
Jerry narrated everything to him. He explained that her phone should be in car left behind. Henry began trembling in rage. Sandra and Ruth will pay for what they did.
'i'm taking them home now'
'it's your call but your wife had not said more than two words since she came. She keeps pretty much to herself and hardly eat. All she does is cry herself to sleep'
Obed told him. Henry walked up the stairs and into the room. He found them sleeping peacefully on the big bed. Her face was stained with tears that had dried.
He locked the door, get rid of his clothes and tiredly joined them in bed. It wasn't as if he had a choice.

Linda slowly opened her eyes to a bright morning. She saw her husband sleeping at the other end of the bed with Daisy between them.
She stared up at him and wished she didn't love him. Her love for him only kept hurting and disappointing her and it hurts that she still love him.
She rat there gaping at him like a stranger. She watched him slowly rouse and Linda fought the urge to draw him into a long lingering kiss.
'we need to talk Linda. But we can do it with Daisy here'
She said nothing. He sat up and then walked to her side of the bed.
'Get mad, blame me, retaliate whichever way you like, break all the breakables in this room and in our house but please Linda, don't leave me'
a tear escaped from her eyes. She can't imagine a day without her husband.
'on coditions?'
'yea'
'i love you Henry but i can't live the rest of my life with women attacking me. It's horrible.
You are my husband, i don't want to ever have to share you with another woman'
'what do you wan't Linda?'
'I want a man to call my own'
she told him in tears.
'but i'm all yours Linda'
'no, you're not. I left the other time because i couldn't bear sharing you with anyone'
'oh my God Sweetypie'
'get rid of them, call them all in a room and terminate whatever you had going with them. That's the only way i can forgive you'
He kissed her on the cheeks,
'anything you say my pie. But promise me you will stay away from the Raymonds'
'okay'
Daisy awoke with a wail. He picked her up and left the room. Downstairs, the whole family were having breakfast. He ignored them and walked straight to the kitchen.
'Daddy, down play, woo woo'
she said pointing to a doll in the shape of a dog. He let go of her.
The cook fried egg and gave him with bread, hot water and beverages.
On his way upstairs, he saw Daisy eating from his cousin Obed's plate but he ignor them.
'Linda breakfast'
'No Henry i'm not hungry'
'ofcourse you are, or i should feed you?'
she giggled and took a bite of the bread.
'i'm hungry, but not for food'
'what do you want?'
she smiled and then wink at him.
'oh, that so?'
'yep'
He kept everything on the floor and joined her in bed.
'the door Henry'
'don't worry, no one will come in yet'

they both fell asleep cuddle together on the bed. Obed and Jerry knocked on the door. The grandfather send them up to call Henry it was time to talk.
Five years was long enough keeping mute.
Obed pushed the door and they walked in on the sleeping couples. Henry stired and let out a shout.
'get the hell out of here'
Linda came awake and tried desperately to cover herself. Jerry took his chances. Henry has no choice but to talk to them, he was in a situation that warrants it. The men observed that the breakfast was left untouch.
'Look here Henry, I am your uncle and won't tolerate any more disrespect from you'
'get out of here'
'your mother would be so disappointed in you'
'you call yourself her brother? You were her undoing'
'she killed herself'
'that was her only chance of freedom. Uncle Jerry, Obed, jake and I came to you for help and you refused to do something'
Henry said with tears in his eyes and Linda was dumbfounded.
'that's not true'
Obed shouted.
'since you two refused to talk to us while she was alive, now that she's dead, Jake and i refused to talk to you'
'its been five years Henry'
'It seems like yesterday to me!'
he exclaimed.
'Henry...'
'get out of here, my wife and i are unclad and am talking to you no more'
both both sat on the adge of the bed.
'if this is the only way to get you talk to us and so be it. We are sorry Linda but this has to be done'
Jerry told them. Henry fumed and tried hard not to see his mother. She had killed herself

There was an uncomfortable silence. Linda felt awkward sitting on a bed with only a bedspread over her. Naither her husband nor his relatives seemed to relent.
'seriously Henry, i'm not comfortable the way i am and am so very hungry right now'
'you heard her. Please excuse us'
'no thanks, we want to talk and you must listen to us'
'Linda we are sorry'
Obed told her.
'sorry? I think not. You three are so inconsiderate keeping me hostage like this. Henry put on your damn trousers and follow them out'
He checked the time, it was almost noon. Linda must really be angry.
'okay, you've won, i will talk to you as soon as i get into something'
Henry said.
'no Henry, she is your wife, so whatever we are gonna say won't b private anymore'
'what is the meaning of this?'
Linda wailed out her impatience. The two men reluctantly left the room. Linda jumped from the bed and began dressing.
'Linda i...'
'don't talk to me Henry. I will be waiting for you downstairs'
she angrily pushed the door open and briskly walked out. They were standinding at the door.
'Linda we are sorry'
the two men told her. She glared at them
'save that for someone else'
she left them and walked downstairs. Goodness, she had not even taken a bath!
'hy Linda, i'm Lara, Jerry's wife and this is Anita, Obed's wife'
the heavily pregnant woman told her. She beamed at them and they all sat down on the dining table with her. The women began chatting excitedly while Linda pounce on her food.
soon, they heard rised voices and shouts of anger from upstairs. The women instantly went mute while Linda continue eating.
'Linda, maybe you know what had happened five years ago? Neither Obed or Jerry want to talk about it with us'
Lara told them.
'i thought you knew, well i'm in the dark. When did you two get married?'
Linda asked.
'obed and i got married two years ago while while uncle Jerry and Lara four years ago'
Anita informed her.
Henry matched downstairs with the three men at his heels. He saw her eating.
'Come on Linda, got to go and i don't want to ever see you with any of these people again'
She continued eating and pretended not to hear him.

'i'm hungry and i've not had a bath'
'don't worry, we got a house'
Linda vowed to end this here and now. She ran upstairs into the room. Henry came in a few minutes later.
'i'm in the dark Henry and all of you are scaring me'
'you see Linda, my parents marriage was an arranged one. Their parents were friends and for some reasons believed that their children must get married.
My father scared of disinherited married my mother.
I wouldn't call their union marriage. The two were clearly not in love and lived sadly.
They hardly converse, they were both formal to eachother. My mother was docile and tried her best to be a good wife but it was difficult.
When we were kids, they shared a room but as soon as Jake, being their younger son clocked eighteen, my father moved out to a spare room.
We were no longer kids and it was quite obvious that our parents were misrerable. Mother too seemed happy that he was gone.
I went to the university and had just finish serving while Jake was in his second year at the university when our parents called us for a family meeting.
They proudly told us that they were getting a divorce. It didn't come as a suprise to either Jake or I. That was the first day i saw them happy and in agreement.
I congratulated them and mother made us promised not to tell anyone yet. It was to be our family secret.
At that time, i was quite close with Obed and Uncle Jerry. Unknowingly for Jake and I, our parents knew that their family will never let them get divorce.
On one of our visit to the Raymonds, Jake and I confided in Jerry and Obed.
Jerry, being mother's little brother confronted her. She made him promised not to tell their parents.
Guess what they did? Obed and Jerry betrayed her'
his eyes were shining with tears. What had happened after that was so unbearable
