Idrismusty97: We actually need sanctions. It would make us wiser, self sufficient and less dependent on these bleeping Western countries. With the rise of China we can easily look East! They won't dare place sanctions on us or they would lose the biggest black nation as an ally. The rest of the Africa countries would definitely follow our steps.

Story story,in as much we still maintain the same crop of politicians we have now,Nigeria will never be wise. This country is not ready for growth.

No. If they want to impose that kind of culture on us they should first help us fix our system and stand firm. As it is now, it is more dangerous to us to accept such lifestyle.

Why is it dangerous?

And how is it an imposition? Since straight people shouldn't be concerned with this. Just let the gay people be!

And now they turned the country with the highest standard of living in Africa to a failed state, with militias and Islamists running the show, bombing everywhere. The funniest thing is that: last week, they evacuated all westerners from that country due to violence.

the whole world can see now. they have turned the place into a favela. terrorists now rule the place.....something that was nonexistent under gadaffi.

Also, the fall out in Libya is also the reason why Boko Haram became stronger, and why Islamists run the show in West Africa now.

of course.....

stanuplane: TEN US senators have written a letter to President
Barack Obama asking him to impose economic
sanctions against Nigeria in response to the
government's hostile stance towards lesbians and
gays.
On January 7 this year, President Goodluck Jonathan
signed Nigeria's Draconian bill Same Sex Marriage
Prohibition Act into law, making anyone convicted of
being homosexual liable to 14 years in prison. Since
the law came into effect, the police have swung into
action arresting lesbians and gays across Nigeria,
while homophobic vigilante groups have also
stepped up attacks on suspected victims.
Coming at a time when several other African nations
are also clamping down severely on homosexuals,
the US senators have asked President Obama to step
in and halt the witch hunt. Those who signed the
letter include Christopher Murphy, Tammy Baldwin,
Martin Heinrich, Richard Blumenthal, Barbara
Boxer, Al Franken, Kirsten Gillibrand, Edward
Markey, Sherrod Brown and Mark Udall.
They are seeking sanctions against Nigeria, over
what they described as a growing trend of laws and
proposed legislation targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual,
and transgender (LGBT) individuals in Africa. In their
letter, the senators are seeking a review of the
African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa), which
allows for duty-free treatment of certain imports from
Nigeria and other sub-Saharan African countries
since 2000.
In their letter, they stated: “We, therefore, ask that
your administration review Nigeria and Uganda’s
eligibility for Agoa’s trade preference and if it is
determined that those countries are not making
continual progress in meeting the statute’s
requirements, that you take steps to revoke Agoa's
eligibility to Nigeria and Uganda, in accordance with
19 USC 2466a(a)(3),” the senators stated.
According to the senators, the enacted Same-Sex
Marriage Prohibition Act by Nigeria in January and
the enforcement of these laws would be a human
rights abuse, in violation of the standards set forth in
the Agoa. In Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni
signed a law into effect on February 24 under which
accused persons can be sent to prison for life for
aggravated homosexuality.
“These laws, combined with the growing public vitriol
by government officials and the media, threaten to
usher in an era of widespread oppression of the LGBT
community in many African countries. We believe
that the discriminatory anti-LGBT laws in those
countries represent a clear violation of human rights
and hope that the interagency process charged with
Agoa’s annual review will make this
recommendation.
"We further ask that you not restore eligibility until
these beneficiary countries have taken steps to
eliminate harsh penalties for LGBT persons,” the
senators added.

USA is really meddling in the affairs of so many countries on earth and causing one problem or the other there! Why cant they go to these core islamic countries to promote the rights of Lgbt ppl? I know they won't dare it ,cos they know the penalty for such over there, instead, they would prefare to intimidate nigeria into doing what majority dont want to do simply because we are relying on them for so many things. Its now clear that these western guys only pretend to care while in actual sense, they dont. They only care about their own interest, their own belief and their own culture. The earlier we africans change our peception towards these western foreign countries the better for us! They are not the good ones as they try to make every one believe, they are the bad ones.

Practicing faggism in this country would potentially increase the spread of stds. It would also potentially usher in new waves of social crimes like gays raping men, kids etc. We are not organized enough to handle that.
And we cant conviniently trace homosexuality back in the west african culture. It is not our way of life.

its a very simple matter.if they want us to practise their way of life of homosexuality, they they should also accept our tradition of polygamy!
Signing that thrash into law will only make the Muslim community intensify their drive for an Islamized Nigeria. After all Islam and African traditions are not against polygamy.

Interesting views expressed on the topic- mostly sentimental and without reason- but still, interesting. In my opinion, that Nigeria has such laws reflects her level of development perfectly, particularly as it relates to the education of her populace. It reflects what is on ground in a country were most people are only educated enough, that at a car accident for instance, the first reaction of the crowd is to beat the offending driver to a coma (or in some cases, even bury the drivers alive), whilst the victim bleeds to death on the street.

Nigerians want to MOVE FORWARD, we want FRESH AIR, but until our laws reflect this, the U.S and other countries will keep treating us the way we treat ourselves. The way we treated ourselves during the civil war, during the fuel subsidy riots, during the immigration exams held in stadiums countrywide, and right now, the way we're treating our northern brothers during this bokoharam insurgency, as well as the way we oppress the LGBT community.
As though we are barbarians, who can't make adequate laws to bring that FRESH AIR we all want.

Why is Nigeria so obsessed with homosexuality?

Why are Nigerians the highest searchers of South African homosexuality porn?

Why are you people so obsessed with non-threatening (commonly religious extremist) issues when other urging issues demand attention?

Why is it that backwards, third-world dwindling countries or communists are the ones against human rights?

What's the difference between Uganda and Nigeria? Wouldn't surprise me if Somalia and Burkina Faso are in accord with nations such as Nigeria.

Why is it that only nations where 10% of its graduates aren't guaranteed employment are against human right?
