seguntijan: I really don’t care about anything you say about me. If u like call me a religion fanatic, zealot, extremist, chauvinist or perhaps an unbeliever, that would still not stop me from saying this BITTER-TRUTH… While the Imo state government has put ban on handshakes, Kano and Kwara state governments have made it compulsory to present death certificate before any corpse can be allowed into their states and South-West Governors are making moves to block illegal borders just to checkmate the fast spreading of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) … And then, the Redeem Christians Church of God (RCCG) today’s convention would still hold!!!... What a mad house (country)!
After the advised from World Health Organization (WHO) that people should try as much as possible to avoid gathering, just so the risk of EVD spreading be minimized… It is completely irresponsible of both the government and the leaders of the RCCG NOT to suspend this convention that would be attended by people from all walks of Africa and indeed the World … can’t the convention be suspended until we found a way round this EVD? What’s so sacrosanct about the convention? ... There is no upper-limit of insensitivity than this! … This is a pure ‘invitation to treat’ to EPIDEMIC and if happens (God forbid), we all would be affected… That’s just my concern…
Country like Saudi Arabia that takes safety of its people very seriously has suspended people from all West African countries from Muslim pilgrimage to its country, until the Ebola virus is checkmated…. And to all of you that bathe with Hot water mixed with salt today, you all would taste tasty in the mouth of flies and ants today… and on behalf of Dangote Salt Company, I say thanks for the patronage….
thanks my frnd. Minds like u ar rare. In a country where ppl are so ignorant nd gullible.

Just to alay your fears kind of.

An extract:

In order to help our Embassy Community better understand some of the key points about the Ebola virus we have consulted with our medical specialists at the U S State Department and assembled this list of bullet points worded in plain language for easy comprehension. Our medical specialists remind everyone that they should be following the guideline from the center for Disease Control and the World Health Organisation.
• The suspected reservoirs for Ebola are fruit bats.
• Transmission to humans is thought to originate from infected bats or primates that have become infected by bats.
• Undercooked infected bat and primate (bush) meat transmits the virus to humans.
• Human to human transmission is only achieved by physical contact with a person who is acutely and gravely ill from the Ebola virus or their body fluids.
• Transmission among humans is almost exclusively among caregiver family members or health care workers tending to the very ill.
• The virus is easily killed by contact with soap, bleach, sunlight, or drying. A washing machine will kill the virus in clothing saturated with infected body fluids.
• A person can incubate the virus without symptoms for 2-21 days, the average being 5-8 days before becoming ill. THEY ARE NOT CONTAGIOUS until they are acutely ill.
• Only when ill does the viral load express itself first in the blood and then in other bodily fluids (to include vomit, faeces, urine, breast milk, semen and sweat).
• If you are walking around you are not infectious to others.
• There are documented cases from Kikwit, DRC of an Ebola outbreak in a village that had the custom of children never touching an ill adult. Children living for days in small one room huts with parents who died from Ebola did not become infected.
• You cannot contract Ebola by handling money, buying local bread or swimming in a pool.
• There is no medical reason to stop flights, close boarders.

From a friend.

I cant help loling cheesy
Mosandie: Lol... cheesy ,it was a prank after all.

Actually got a different version of d prank. My younger sis called me at about 6:30am saying a friend who was told by a friend that was told by a friend.....told her that Prophet TB Joshua announced that Nigerians should bathe with salt and hot water before 7am to avoid ebola. I went back to bed.
By 6:48am i had gotten 4 calls and messages frm well-meaning friends n relatives abt d same gist....then my neighbour comes knocking asking if i could spare some salt, she didn't have enough to prepare the 'anointed bath' for her family.... Since i couldn't confirm the story, i decided to be on d safe side.

Dear op, Pls don't do this again angry . There's enough to worry about already.

You ve made a point.
SammyHoe: The only way I could have believed this rumour is if this same person(or his purported friend, Funke) had opened a 'SALT CURE EBOLA' rumour on Nairaland earlier. Anybody can open this type of thread and claim he/she is the cause of the rumour, just to get attention. But I bet it with you, no popular Nairalander would want to do it with his or her original username.

Making a joke about a life threatening issue is bad. But you have succeeded in misinforming a lot of Nigerians who happen to wake me up as early as 5am with PINGS, SMSes and other social media means asking if it's true or not.
Haba! Educated lot, how can salt kill a virus?

I'm glad you took responsibility for your actions.

Salt go just expensive like the price of bitter kolanut skyrocketed!

All these are confusing, I don't know the one to following. I was told this morning that, this msg is 4rm Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka. He said that everybody should take his bath with salt and warm water he also said we should pray before using it, to aviod contacting Ebola Virus.
