Why 28th, why dinner night? Is Nigeria a joke?

Nigeria became a joke the day a certificateless man was elected president.

you talk like a kid of less than 9, why should handover take place at a dinner? Why not wait till the official date and in the full glare of the whole world? Think.

again, let's us stop misinterpreting the actions of the President has he has no intention of frustrating the incoming government. this is an unnecessary alarm being raised. why would anyone in his right senses that conceded defeat would still want to hold on to power or frustrate a transition process that will serve as the hallmark of his administration? That he handed over successful still have a lot to Jonathan's administration considering all what he has been through and happened.

While we misinterpreting the handover, the handover is just an event to formally hand over all necessary documents and briefs or additional documentation needed by the incoming government on the affairs and status of affairs of the nation. This is just a prelude to the actual event which is the swearing in. The swearing in is the main event that officially makes the President elect, the President and transfer powers to him by the constitution and not an event where they receive documents and handover notes as some people are misinterpreting..

Handing over is not a constitutional thing but a discretional choice between who us coming in and who is going out.

After swearing in, would Bugatti still be calling Jonathan to come and brief him on the state of affairs of some ministry and the presidency, let's be reasonable and speak the truth rather than condemning and hating....

am not in support of this either but the way apc guys are heating up this situation might lead to another presidential election scenario where nigeria almost divide.........beside if violence break out due to this issue we the masses will suffer it and not them undecided smh
and being the President of Nigeria Jonathan know the political atmosphere in the country even at this point, he personally should avoid anything that would be seen as an Avenue to truncate this process that ended peacefully 3 weeks ago.

But in all I refuse to be a pessimist because we all have everything to gain if the government works good and all to loose if it does otherwise.
Please, maturity is what you need though because of your signature... You don't know who is watching you... Hatred is one big force we should avoid inciting in our beautiful country because we got no other.
It worries me a lot to see fellow compatriots wishing a duly elected government failure...their government. If that's not bad enough, then what else is?

Guy, indeed there is a difference. And its because of this difference that the two processes should be done simultaneously to avoid a vacuum in the governance of this Country. If you understand politics and governance very well, you would know that 8 hours between handover and swearing in is a very big risk for a country wherein there is no one accountable for the leadership of the country within those hours.
And that's the concern being voiced out, which any reasonable person should understand.

indeed there is and I assure there is no vacuum whatsoever. while handing over doesn't make buhari the President, it gives the President Elect the present status of the current administration to what ever degree of information needed.

it's like a new MD coming, the retiring MD handover before he resumes and takes over. what vacuum is there. the cabinet still exist till the President is sworn in and takes over.

we just over beating the issue. the swearing in date is sacrosanct.

okay, look at this way again, when you acquired a new property, is the document and keys given to you after packed in or before?

There is a difference between handing over and swearing in.

the swearing in is taking place on May 29. I wonder why people can't understand the difference? the handover is just the night before which has to do with welcoming and ushering in the new government to be sworn in the morning after and briefing them all other information needed. which is OK to take place before swearing than after immediately upon swearing in, the government can kick into action.

I understand now that it's all bout hate. Nigerians hate Jonathan so much that it is generally accepted that nothing good can come from him abi,

very unfair. if that man can concede defeat for the greater good of our country, it's sad to know that Nigerians can't trust him on a simple handover.

This won't be the first time transition is taking place in Nigeria. Handing over and swearing in has always been on May 29. The change of power to the opposition party won't change that. The constitution is clear about this.

Section 131 of the Constitution, which prescribes a minimum qualification for nomination to participate in Presidential Elections and Section 31 of the Electoral Act that stipulates that all presidential candidates must depose to affidavits indicating their compliance with constitutional requirements to be president.

I think APC is trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Jonathan remains president until after Buhari is being sworn in. Buhari isn't president until he is being sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Federation. The handover is just a handing over of some symbolic documents, nothing more. Handing over of some other vital documents continues even after the swearing in.

Besides the constitution never said anything against handing over on the eve of swearing in date.
He may as well handover today then!

Let him not agree for on the 28 o. GEJ may have a pure motive of saying 28. But some of those surrounding Jonathan are having orubebe spirit in them. They can do anything within that few hours that there is vaccum in government to warrant coup or interime government. And on that dinner night , let People's general be very careful as anything may happen. Jonathan is a good person , but many bad people are in his government. Even some are afraid now of what may happen to them if Buhari take over. They can plot any evil thing. LET MAY 29 be MAY 29!!!

Why would GEJ want to create a period where Nigeria has no President?

The clueless one continues to out do himself and continues to display grand idiosy. They tried to short circuit our democracy with Orubebe's foolishness, now this.

As soon as he unconstitutionally hands over to a ghost on May 28, he should be immediately arrested or placed under guarded house arrest until May 29. nansense.
