Many things in the bible took place in real settings in real places that existed. They just added myths and a whole bunch of lies. For instance, there was pharaoh but Israelites were never slaves in Israel. They just weaved real events into a myth to come up with their founding myth. Every ethnic group had their founding myth, am sure even your tribe has one. So many events in the bible never happened but are stories weaved very well into real places and people.
