Hi guys, I need your help in choosing the right generator brand and rating for my home. I need something between 7 to 10 KVa. Can you suggest the best brand and their current prices, please? I need 100% copper gen. Thanks! |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by TrebleChamp(m): 9:00am On Oct 08, 2022 |
henrymor:Get a Thermocool Gen or get Original Sumec Fireman. Look around your neighbourhood or use Google to search for any Thermocool Authorised Store close to you to check current prices. Also Google how and where to get Original Sumec Fireman Gen. If you choose Thermocool, just locate their Authorised Store and buy with ease and peace of mind. If you choose Sumec Fireman, go with an expert to help determine if the Gen is Original or Fake. Don't buy Gen online, good luck... 4 Likes |

Boss, I made my findings and I realized that thermocool and Sumec Firemen gens are way above my budget. I need something around 7KVA to 9KVA and I am getting 400k plus for the brands you suggested. However, someone suggested Elepaq constant 100% copper. What do you think? My budget is around 250 to 300k and I want to get a reliable gen that can at least carry my borehole pumping machine (1.5 hp), 3 inverter ac (1.5 hp each) and microwave. Please what do you think? henrymor:The Buhari effect . But on a sincere note, you won't get durable Original 7 to 9kva Gen for your current budget. Elepaq Gen are ok, but its probably Fake if you are offered 7 to 9kva Elepaq for ₦300k. I may be wrong sha, just go with a trusted technician if you decide to buy the brand. As for your estimated load, i think a 4.5kva Gen should be able to power them if you run the appliances intermittently. But get a 6kva or above Gen to be on the safe side, the fall of Naira is reason for the massive price increase..... |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by henrymor: 2:39pm On Oct 08, 2022 |
yes o Buhari effect. Well, thanks for your advice again. They called the Elepaq constant 9 kva 375k. I think I will try to up my game, add more money, and go for a reliable one boss. This is what I got from a vendor. Elepaq - 6.5 KVA, = #189,000 7.5 KVA, = #315,000 9 KVA = #375,000 Sumeic Fireman - 6.5 KVA, = #390,000 7.5 KVA, =#410,000 9 KVA = #425,000 TrebleChamp: |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by TrebleChamp(m): 3:18pm On Oct 08, 2022 |
henrymor:The bolded is definitely a fake Gen, that amount would at most get you a 2.5kva Generator. Elepaq are well know for their fake rating, you might see 6.5kva on their Gen but actual rating could be 2.5kva. Also avoid those mini Generator shops unless you are going with a trusted technician, they sell more of fake too. Just try adjust your budget and get a reliable brand, good luck once again... 7 Likes |

TrebleChamp: TL:DR... 3.75kva Thermocool Gen no longer wants to power any significant load (like my 1.5 inverter AC) except for TV and inverter freezer, which my smaller generator can also power with no stress. Long version... Ever since I bought my second Thermocool gen (3.75kva) from their showroom, it's been one problem or the other. Currently, if I switch it on and power the ac, it takes about 20 mins before it starts groaning and jerking. Last time it did that, called a repairer and they washed the carburetor as there was water in the tank. The carburetor was also washed again this time as there was water in the tank (don't know how water gets inside as I didn't experience this with the first gen). Yet, no change and the repairer said we should change the carburetor but I'm skeptical as once they start changing stuff in the gen, it might get worse. Any advice boss? |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by TrebleChamp(m): 6:11pm On Oct 08, 2022 |
micynute94:I was going to ask how did water get into the tank, but you have answered that already. Apart from the carburettor, have you checked the AVR to know if it's faulty? I would suggest you take the Gen to their Authorised Store for proper repair. I have been using Thermocool Tec Bobo 2.5kva for close to 2 years now, no issue whatsoever and has never been touched by any Technician. I just change oil every 3 weeks at least depending on usage though.... |

Guys, Is it normal for a 10000 VA stabilizer to be stuck on delay mode when there is low current? |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by RepairZone: 7:40pm On Oct 08, 2022 |
TheLoneCitizen: No, using the SAE 40 wasn't a good recommendation because SAE 40 is what is called a “straight-weight” motor oil. Its viscosity (resistance to flow) declines with increasing temperature, in accordance with the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) specification for a 40-weight oil. Your choice should be SAE 20W-50 is an oil containing compounds called “viscosity index improvers,” generally long-chain molecules that curl up at low temperatures but stretch out at higher temperatures, such that the oil has a viscosity characteristic of a 20-weight oil at the lower test temperature (IIRC, 100 degrees F) but that of a 50-weight oil at the upper test temperature (IIRC, about 200 degrees F). 20W-50 is just one of many so-called “multi-vis” specifications; the viscosities of multi-vis oils decline with temperature, but not as rapidly as a straight-weight. 3 Likes 1 Share |

seankafor: Yes, If the mains voltage is very low and below it's designed unsafe value, the stabilizer will not supply output. This is because it's output voltage will not be stepped up enough to a safe value. 1 Like 1 Share |

RepairZone:sorry for my ignorance, but I thought stabilizer is supposed to step up the voltage of power current.. That's why I bought it, I even went for the highest 10000 va century stabilizer Before I bought it, I was getting low current but it wasn't carrying my appliances, so I bought the stabilizer hoping it'd stabilize The light |

I just noticed recently each time I try pumping water with my SPG 3000E automatic gen ... The sumo starts pumping in space of 3 minutes it cuts off and stops pumping ... I have tried to increase the voltage of the gen , it does the same thing... Is it from the gen or sumo |

RepairZone: Thank you. First ,wouldn't a 50-weight oil be too thick for the gen, because the recommended oil type on jumia official portal is 30. (picture attached) Second, I already got a monograde 40-weight conoil golden super oil before your reply. Should I go ahead to use. Third, I use the generator very sporadically because of constant power, about once a month. What practice do I engage to preserve the life? I change oil once every two weeks, but a user told me this was overkill. I also drain the fuel completely

Kingsdave:What's the voltage reading on the voltmeter? |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by Gptech(m): 8:01am On Oct 09, 2022 |
henrymor:All the KVA ratings quoted sound more like HP( horse power). A typical 6.5HP generator outputs around 3.5KVA for example. It's either the seller is ignorant or he/she is trying to play a fast one on you. 2 Likes |

Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by Gptech(m): 12:23am On Oct 11, 2022 |
Kingsdave:That's too low to power the pump. If you decreased the running speed before increase it voltage should be 220-240V. |

Please, my thermocool bobo output fluctuates/slightly unstable and the noise is quite much, what is the solution? Tried reducing engine speed but once I put load on it, it vibrates harder. |

Hi guys Please it’s there any generator that does not make much noise, it’s not diesel generator but petrol generator . Please I need a guide to get a good generator that does not make noise. Thanks |
Re: Professor On Any Type Of Generator. by Gptech(m): 8:13am On Oct 12, 2022 |
mirob:What you seek is inverter generators not sold here. Most of them have low noise because of their bodies are padded. They also use smaller engines and run on varying speeds depending on the load. As long as you are in Nigeria, you can not avoid the noise in petrol generators and know that the bigger the generator the bigger the engine and the louder the noise tends to be. 1 Like |

somongo:If you reduce the speed too low, then there will be vibrations and instability. For the noise, how often do you change oil? |
