Read through the threads and thought to send in my 2 bits.

On the day I was interviewed, the undergrad denial rate was very high. Listening in and being Christan myself, most just didn't have a clue as to why they were going to study (sad but true).

I guess as with everything, you need to be prepared and of course trust God:-).

I can't say a lot about the Consular officers, was there a couple hours but the descriptions coming through seem fairly accurate and perhaps adequate.

Undergrads, important to know:
1. What school attending, why you chose it and the course/degree;
2. Why the US, what you intend to do with the degree once you return or how it would make Nigeria a better place;
3. Some courses you would take, Prof. or teachers in your faculty.

I feel the other questions are routine: how many schools applied to, why this one, where the school is located, your WAEC/SAT/or TOFEL scores whatever's applicable, what you have done since you finished from school, if you have family here, sponsor details e.t.c.

No! I am not an undergraduate student (graduate) and yes, visa was issued in Lagos and wasn't asked to show a single document. Also have siblings who are Perm. residents here and it was declared on my form and I am single. This lets you know that circumstances vary from individual to individual.

Please be prepared. I feel it shows us in good light. if you can take the time to fill in several  sometimes tedious applications to schools, and put together documents for an interview (in the hope of actually making a better life for yourself via the education you seek to acquire), then you should be able to take time to prepare and give intelligent answers. Some of them are cringe worthy.

Goodluck guys and Gods favor. Getting to America or any other country shouldn't be a "do or die" affair":-). Keep that in mind always.

I have an issue here, my I20 that was sent to my postal address almost 2 month ago is missing in transit. I have requested 4 another copy via express mail but am afraid i may not receive it b4 my interview and my school resume 17th august. I have a printed copy sent in Pdf format to me but obvious it is a copy.
Plz house what do you think, i should go ahead and use the copy or cancel and reschedule my appoinment.

Me: Sure (I was about bringing them out)

VO: Oh I can see you were in the US last year?

Me; I was the lead youth delegate at a United Nations Conference on MDG, and I was representing Nigeria. I really enjoyed New York and I met my mentor Dr. Helen Gayle at the UN headquarters, After discussing my career plans and research iinterests with her she advised me to apply to Uni, and Uni,

Guys, I meant 10am interviews. Sorry am too excited and am shaking. I think they are more concernedabout your academic capability dan all dat bank statement thing. One babe dat sat next to me said she had a statement from her dads private coy of like 280 million. She didn't get it.
