My experience,
I got there around 8 30. They asked for sevis, appoinemtn gtb reciept etc. I got in at 11 did biometric etc. Ther guy before me was denied. And d babe in cubicle one denied almost all d people dat went b4 her except some old women goin for medicals. I was now prayin dey should not call me to counter 1 coz that was her counter. B4 I knew it, dey jumped d number b4 mine and asked me to go to counter 1. She asked me what I wanted to study,- I told her, what I do, I told her, d modules ill be taking, I told her. She looked at my bank statement. And she said, ill isue u a visa, pick it up at billingsway, gave me a green small card that they wrote visa pick up on. I asked for my i20 she said it will be inside mypassport wen I pick it up. Yes. Ayanfe got her visa before me. Many students were denied in Lagos oh. But me and like 4 other people were granted that I know of. The info on dis thread helped. But trust me, it is ur utternace dat will give u visa. Dat bank statement done mean anything. You have to be polite, confident and well grounded in education. Travel history also helps but like 3 fresh passports got their F11. You guys, thank God for me. I am now looking for flight. No more sevis, i20, fedes, statement, etc. I thank God.

Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by cutegirly: 5:44pm On Aug 02, 2011
My passport is not fresh(ideally most people r fresh coz of ecowas) but I attached my former passport to it. Which had a shenghen and UK visa dat were valid. But I haven't been to the Us b4. Its nt a neccesity to have travel experience. But it may sort out the issue of family ties since u have traveled many times and returned. Please, d most vital thing is to sound like an academic. No matter how mean a VO is when dey realise that you actually have sense and know what you are doing, a bank statement may not even hinder you. Also the importance of prayer cannot be over emphasized. I also patiently explained d nature of my program to her. Its not very wise to define or blow grammer. The guy b4 me they asked him what is marketing, he started givin text book defination.

I am sorry to tell you that you denied yourself the visa based on your replies. You did not show that you are a real prospective computing professional.

1) Specialising in Informational technology is meaningless. Computer Science (and synonymously referred to atimes as Information Technology) is broad and some of its specialised areas are: Artificial Intelligence, Theory of Computations, Database Management, Networking & Information Theory, Software Engineering (which embeds Programming), and a host of many subfields.

2) Fortran, are you kidding me? That language is gradually being fazed out in modern computing. It's like being asked that which languages do you think will be advantageous  to know in today's human world, and you say: Yoruba. What happens to English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, etc. Talking in Computing Jargons, Java, C++, HTML & PHP, and many others relevant in today's world would have been better.

3) By the way, FORTRAN stands for Formula Translation and is a language used in Specialised Scientific Researches.

Finally getting a visa with a course of study in Computer Science, or any of its fields, should be easy provided you are brilliant and know what you are talking about. I did by presenting a virgin passport and making a mistake of telling the VO that I might not be coming back.

4) By the way, Oracle is not a programming language. It is a DBMS: an application that is used in Database Management.

@adolite, i dont really kno if hw u ve written dis is exactly d way it went, may be your morale is now down. but, i will respond based on your post here.
firstly why this program in the school?, your response was so vague nd lacked d energy expected, dis is d first thing dat determines your intention to study, anythin u say here gives d V.O d impression abt u, d real meaning of dat question is,y computer study out of all courses n d skool, hw relevant is this course to NIgeria and what do u gain doin dis course talk of d school rating, student faculty ratio, student professor ratio, there researches on d field, u can even giv 2 names of prof.
2)which programming do you know, u said u did not expect dis y now??, i thot u kno Abuja ask academic question.more so, in dis forum dis same question wuz asked from an F1 going 4 computer science. your body language kuld av exposed somtin here(not genuine F1).
3)some coy, also vague!!!, u shld av name a particular coy or sectors u av in mind nd wat input u wil hav there.
see, it's not just your time because i av read post u did beta dan nd dem still get d green tag, pls pls.n pls, my response is just personal thot nd based on your post, i may be wrong too. dis is not d best tym to start saying dis stuffs bur am just trying to see hw prepared i am, am sure u can be of help to me too, i hope u will reapply soonest. best of luck dude.

Well Said but I can bet my last $ that the lady that interviewed this guy does not know any of these. Lets be honest with ourselves here. These interviewers only have ideas of what they ask us because they have internet in front of them and they dont have time to go through all the results that come out when they ask questions. They just want to make sure you have an idea of what they asked.

What I am trying to say is, not everyone is intelligent, I am not one of the intelligent ones but I can stand my ground in an interview and if I have no idea of something I will tell you straight.

My advice to any body any day going for that interview is if you can stand your ground in English language and  read this thread thoroughly you wont have a problem. I had no idea what to say when I was asked the first question but I told the guy something which no body in that hall expected me to say.

The questions he was asked are fundamental. I think the way those people do it so to initially ask the rudimentary questions. If you prove yourself, then they move on to higher grounds.

By the way, how is life in New York City?

nairaspace

So many courses you can name depending on your level of studies. But for an undergraduate, some could be:

Introductory Software Engineering
Introduction to Computing
Mathematics for Computing
Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming
Systems Analysis & Design

etc, etc.

Congrats Cutegirly. Welcome to Obamaland.

@Adolite, sorry about that. That's pathetic.
I feel the woman got u from the first question. She just used the stupid FORTRAN question as a veil to deny u. You answered the question by letting her know how good the school is (which is fine), but u did not link it to Nigeria in any way. Please house, don't ever miss any opportunity to link yourself back home. If u like get lost when get to Yankee, but link yourself back to Naija in most of the questions.
On the Fortran question, always remember that u are going to study. You want to become a student which means u have not mastered everything. U can easily let her know that, one of the reasons u are going for further knowledge is to have answers to this question and many more and use the knowledge to help Nigeria in combating the cyber crime in the banking sector. Even professors will still check books to confirm one or two things. Always remember u are not a human encyclopedia. You can never have answers to their questions because their is no area of study, but u have to be smart in answering it.
If u have taken your time to read all the post here, there was a guy they ask square root of maybe 69 or something (I cant remember the exact question). He said he cant answer now but if given time to study he will surely answer it. They gave him his visa

The questions he was asked are fundamental. I think the way those people do it so to initially ask the rudimentary questions. If you prove yourself, then they move on to higher grounds.

By the way, how is life in New York City?

So many courses you can name depending on your level of studies. But for an undergraduate, some could be:

Introductory Software Engineering
Introduction to Computing
Mathematics for Computing
Introduction to Object-Oriented Programming
Systems Analysis & Design

etc, etc.

NY just dey there. I am not in NYC as of now. Will be going back in three weeks

Congrats Cutegirly. Welcome to Obamaland.

@Adolite, sorry about that. That's pathetic.
I feel the woman got u from the first question. She just used the silly FORTRAN question as a veil to deny u. My point exactly! Forget how smart some people sound in their interview. I will always say not every experience here is true because some people lie! Let us all just try to be sincere with ourselves.

You will not be as confident as you are when you get there just try your best to raise your confidence and answer to the best of your knowledge. Do not say what you are not sure of.

BTW, That was me, The question was, define statistics I was confused, and could have given him my English definition but I chose not to because I wasn't sure of that definition so I told him I didn't know it now but if given the time to study I will answer it.

Oh djunit1 that's u?! So, some other old timer are still in the house. I just remember if he had given your answer or something similar, he would have gotten it. I remember the way I studied this forum as if I was to take exam on it. I crammed almost all the visa interviews and reviewed everything at home before my interview. So, I can still remember almost all the visa interview of last year from gongo aso, oyewoles, nethacker,
How is life treating u over there?

Hello house, I have some question to ask and i need urgent response, I was to resume for fall admission but due to some issue i had to differ my admission to spring (January 2011) and my I-20 is sent and its with me already , so i will like to know if it is not early to go for interview by late September(already scheduled for 29th September 2010) for spring January 2011 admission, Lastly i will like to know if i will have to re-fill the DS-160 form or if i can still use the previous one filled, because i could see that the DS-160 confirmation number is still reflecting on my new appointment , should i need to cancel my appointment and re-schedule it after i filled my new DS-160 Form, hope it will not be hard to schedule appointment again?? because is going to be the second time i will be canceling the appointment.
Please i need an advice urgent ,
Thanks

Hi reloaded,
first, do u mean spring 2011 or 2012? I guess you meant 2012 cos it's not possible for you to be going in for spring 2011 at this point.

You would need to write to the school to send you another I20 form. You might not 'necessarily" have to send financial documents for them to issue you a new I 20. Why you would be needing a new I 20 is because the date expected to resume must have changed since you deferred resumption to a later date (even though every other information might remain the same). Also, I am not certain if your I20 number would remain the same ( I guess it should). Make sure you contact your school international student advisor to inform you on this accordingly.

If the I 20 nos remains the same, then you need not "necessarily" fill in a new DS 160 form nor pay a new SEVIS fee.

However, all these are subject to confirmation from other credible sources!
