@All, After one has been refused a visa using the emergency interview option, can one re-apply for another emergency immediately? Or how soon can one apply for anothe emergency date?

I think the answer is very much a yes. They hardly scrutinize d date stuff. What they concentrate on, mostly, is the final balance, not even the flow of cash.

If it won't cost u any pain to get a very recent one, go with a recent acct and if u can't, i don't think there's a big deal considering my first comments with the fact that October is not too "outdated".

You call it emergency after the denial but they call it interview, so dude you can re-apply as many times as you want.

Kreamie, i'm not sure i've a solid response for dis but from my own perspective, i don't think there's any such barrier as to how many times/how soon one can apply for emergency date. i trust think that, logically, your reason must be VERY cogent for your request to be honored the 2nd time.

If i may ask, i hope u r not anticipating dis for urslf? We all know it's a gd thing to have contingency plans but pls let ur mind be geared more towards getting d visa at a go. Wishing u d very best.

If you get an interview using the Emergency date, and you are denied, i dont think you'll be eligible for another emergency appointment until after 6 months, check the site to confirm

You haven't seen where suit looks like cockcroach exoskeleton on someone's body? When you say suit, some go far to borrow over size coat. Well, any formal dressing is preferred here but not like joining it with suit o.

So u were able to get d date at last! Shaken up ke? Stop se be!! just be cool, it'll be well. Go with d mentality of picking ur visa up.

In as much as it's not abt ur dressing style, u don't want to make it difficult for d vo to believe u are a prospective student.

So knife and yam dey ya hand!

btw, are u m/f?

Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by mozo: 9:41pm On Nov 29, 2011
a guy went for an interview in a yoruba traditional wear, when the white Lady (VO) saw him, she smiled almost laughing and said, "i like your costume".

The guy smiled back and replied "Oh its not a custume, its my traditional outfit" you can imagine how his interview ended with such a start,

Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by mysterysng: 11:28pm On Nov 29, 2011
Hey all!
So to the recent question, please just dress decently and as comfortably as you can. It is an interview but for a student, doesn't call for you suiting up- except if you are going to work afterwards anyways. Male, a simple shirt(short or long sleep) or a neat T shirt with a pair of trousers (pants/ Jeans)would do. During my interview, a woman going for a Yoruba art exhibition came all completely dressed in trad attire, aso oke and she was denied. My friend with me on the other hand, was dressed in a shirt with his sleeves rolled up and was granted. To summarize, you just go looking decent. As an intending student, the dress code here in the US is very informal. T shirt with jeans so I don't think you will be any better if you go in suit. Ultimately, it depends on what you say and your documents. Be smart in your responses and have COGENT reasons to back anything up. They atimes google what you say. SO if you say well, my school is one of the top schools in the US, the guy would check it out. In MY opinion (which is SUBJECTIVE), I don't think denial is based on things like "you have not traveled before" or 'the VO was just being wicked". Like I once said, you will be surprised what Nigerians say during the interview even those who have 100s of millions in their account. Confidence is also paramount. As a student here in the USA, I have seen confidence in a whole new dimension among my classmates.

For those who got thier visas, I can just chip this in. Clearance at point of entry shouldn't be any hassles- depending on the airport you arrive through. Some are more tedious than the others. Then if coming just after christmas, there is tendency for them to be busy. Whatever food you bring along, make sure to declare on the form given at the airport so you don't have issues. I had ogbona, crayfish, stockfish, dried vegetables, pepper, maggi, garri , etc. I wasn't harassed for any (cos I declared EVERYTHING) and when asked at screening, I told them what I have. Worst case, they will collect it from you if it is not allowed (you wouldn't be deported 'cos of that). Also, avoid chicken products (especially maggi chicken). Make sure they are in transparent white nylon(or Ziploc) and if possible label (all these are not necessary but might just help you reduce hassles at screening).
Have ALL your related travel documents and school documents in your hand luggage, at the point of entry, they will screen your I 20 and passport. Be sure that your I 94 date stamped is correct and the duration (it might bare something like D/S meaning duration of stay).

Hmmm, what else? At the naija airport especially lagos, the immigration people will harass you for your food. Claiming bring 4k or so. Please do not be fooled. Insist you are a student and you have to eat. If they delay you, give them 500. Believe me, they can't do anything. Worst case, you drop the food or if you want to, go ahead and give then the 4k-depending on how rich you are. In my opinion, I think Emirates is the most affordable considering the services they provide. The only problem is the time you spend (as per having to go to dubai) but it is worth the experience!!!

Finally, this has always been an issue here and I hate to bring it up again. When coming to the US, depending on your financial status, be prepared for a little period of hardship (depending on the state you are in). Things are not same as we have at home. Be ready to be prudent with spending . But in a few months, if you are smart, you will settle in perfectly and then, things become really enjoyable. USA beats Nigeria a million times over (in most aspects). BUT there will always be that initial hardship though, imagine like 7 pieces of Red pepper(rodo) for 7 dollars? lol, but otherwise, food 'boku' jare.

This thread helped me once and I am always happy to give any advice that is needed.
Good luck!
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by mysterysng: 11:32pm On Nov 29, 2011
Dress code for female: Same as i said. Smart and comfortable. I had on a button down fitted knee length gown. I made my hair just the day before. I had just basic make up. I looked neat. I don't think you have to be all painted up or with hair flying around. Present a look of "I am serious" (though I don't believe seriousness should be judged on looks, but if they want that, give it to them). Simple top, pants, skirt, medium heels or flat regular shoes, anything should do. Just use your discretion to judge 'simple'.

Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by mysterysng: 2:53am On Nov 30, 2011
You are welcome.
* Point of correction the declaration form (can't remember what it is called now) would be given on the plane (about 1-2 hours to arrival). Also, the immigration officer at the point of entry might ask you some questions - nothing in particular. Just make sure your answers tally with your documents and travel info, he/she might start asking you again what you are in the US for, what school, bla bla bla, it is all scope. Consistency in answers provided is the key. If you do not know something in yanky or you are not sure, TELL them. No one expects you to be perfect. As long as you are not coming across as lying, you would be fine.
