Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to
know this morning:

1. The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, and
the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr.
Yakubu Dogara, on Monday denied separately a
claim by the former Interim National Chairman of
the APC, Chief Bisi Akande, that their victory in the
National Assembly was sponsored by oil magnets.
They said the allegation was baseless and untrue.

2. Former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
has been accused of spending $2.1bn from the
Excess Crude Account without authorisation. This
allegation was raised at the National Economic
Council, chaired by Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo,
on Monday.

3. The presidency Monday denied social media
reports that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered
the Department of State Service, DSS, to arrest his
wife’s younger brother, Musa Yola, over allegation
of fraud. A statement by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s
media aide, claims nothing of such happened. Mr
Yola has also denied the allegation, saying he has
never been to a police station over any offence.

4. There are reports that the some of the Chibok
schoolgirls kidnapped a year ago have been fully
converted to Boko Haram and are now fighting for
the group. According to a BBC report, the girls are
now been used to terrorise other captives, and are
even carrying out killings themselves.

5. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said
that it will not give up on its criticism of President
Buhari over the continuous delay in the
appointment of key offices in his administration,
saying the delay has created several loopholes as
people who have no business in government have
infiltrated the villa. The statement was issued by
the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh.

6. Nine Nigerian banks are among top 25 in Africa
and top 1000 global banks by the Banker magazine
in London. The banks are Zenith, Ecobank, First
Bank, Gtbank, Access Banks, Diamond Bank, UBA,
Fidelity and FCMB.

7. Many Nigerians have appealed for extension of
deadline as the Central bank says it will place
restriction as from today those who are yet to
enrol for their Bank Verification Number, BVN.
Report says Nigerians are in last minutes rush for
their number.

8. Report has it that leadership of the APC are still
bent on ensuring that the Deputy Senate President,
Ike Ekweremadu is removed from his position. They
have insisted that Ekweremadu currently sits on a
stolen mandate and must give way for the rightful
owner.

9. Fresh report has it that twenty-three policemen
who refused to participate in a military operation
against Boko Haram insurgents in March 2015 have
been asked to report at the force Headquarters for
trial. The men who said they could not be
conscripted into the army without the approval of
the police authority have been asked to appear
before a police panel to defend themselves.

10. Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has denied
reports that he was of the opinion that Federal
Character principle in Nigeria be scrapped. In his
clarification, Osinbajo said he only advised that
merit should come first before consideration of
ethnic background.
