@ all, see what hitv is planning o! Nigerian pay-TV platform is teaming up with 11 other African pay-TV operators in an attempt to wrest English Premier League (EPL) rights from existing holders MultiChoice and Showtime Arabia. HiTV alongside Yes TV (Sierra Leone ), Star TV (Rwanda), Total Acces (Burkina Faso), Skyy Media (Ghana), Kiss FM (Kenya), Zuku TV (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda), Vox Africa (pan-regional), Next Generation Broadcasting (Ghana), Imanle Africa (Cameroon, Benin), plus several former representatives from now defunct satellite platform GTV covering Liberia, Tanzania and Uganda, today presented their combined bid to the English Football Association (FA). The bid, if successful, will not only steal the EPL rights from MultiChoice and Showtime Arabia but also create a “new continent-wide broadcast platform” that will “offer every country in Africa its own DTH platform,” according to HiTV, which already holds the EPL rights within Nigeria.HiTV said the continent-wide technology and content backbone being created will allow individual countries in Africa to develop their own independent broadcasting market and tailor their service to meet the demands of regional viewers. The move is part of HiTV’s ongoing campaign to have content rights owners treat Africa in terms of individual territories rather than North, South and sub-Saharan regions. HiTV began this process when it carved out Nigerian EPL rights for itself. This tactic not only meant the GTV platform couldn’t enter Nigeria, since its selling point in other sub-Saharan African markets was exclusive football coverage, but it allowed HiTV to build a base of 200,000 subscribers in the two years. HiTV today said this growth is largely down to the EPL rights. “Our proposal will open up the market to individual countries to build and develop their own broadcast markets and drive investment. As football has such a global appeal, it only seems fitting that it is set to unite African broadcasting,” said Toyin Subair, MD and CEO of HiTV. The HiTV-led consortium believes that the existing bidding process for the EPL perpetuates what it termed “the monopoly of sub-Saharan African broadcasting” by Multichoice’s DSTV service, since it treats the entire region as one big deal rather than smaller deals for its constituents territories. “We want to streamline the model to allow broadcasters and viewers to have greater control over this content,” added Subair. “Africa is an emerging market for the global broadcasting industry and there is huge potential for international content owners and advertisers.” The HiTV-led bid for EPL rights to the 2010-2013 seasons is by no means assured to succeed. MultiChoice, which operates the DSTV platform across the whole of Africa, has EPL rights to South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa (ex-Nigeria), while Dubai-based, Viacom-backed Showtime Arabia has North Africa and the Middle East. Neither is likely to give up these rights without a fight, even if the FA does completely change the way it sells both its African and Middle Eastern EPL rights. The FA is to decide on the 2010-2013 rights “within a few months,” said a HiTV rep. |

George_D, I have just been informed that you are now enjoying CNN on Nilesat after your re-installation today. That was fine. I hope others in South South could enjoy theirs too. By the end of this week, I will try to re-install my dish to see whether I can get better signals. I will stay longer in town this time around. Will ring you tonight. |

naijafinestgal: The best way of maximising your 90 cm dish is to stick a diseqc/USALS motor on it --- done by someone who knows what s/he is doing. |

Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by GeorgeD1(m): 10:07am On Jun 02, 2009 |
@Abellybaba, If you want to watch dstv then be ready to pay for it. But if it's champions league you really want to watch, there are other FTA stations that do show those matches and we can give you directions on how to go about it. But first decide which one you want. As for your friend boasting, anybody can boast about anything. Let him show you first for real, and if he's really your 'friend' then you should have no difficulty getting the right info from him. |

@ All NIlesat Owners I have decided to migrate to Nilesat with a 2.4m solid pan dish since that is where the action seems to be. Can anyone please tell me the minimum signal strenght i need to achieve on Nss 7 to guarantee a shot at Nilesat. |
Re: Official Thread of Free-to- Air Satellite TV [part 3] by GeorgeD1(m): 10:16am On Jun 02, 2009 |
@naijafinestgal, I hope you're not a man masquerading as a lady? Because judging by all your posts so far, there seems to be no iota of courtesy in your intonations. We have ladies as members of this forum and we know how they speak. I think we may be forced to ask for your phone number and talk to you in person first before we entertain any more tantrums from you. AM I SPEAKING FOR THE HOUSE? |
