Of course the concept is quite basic and straight forward. Every outlet electronics like your TV etc actually operates by converting AC power to DC power. So the end result is DC. You can by-pass this conversion by supplying DC power (using a suitable battery) directly to the appliance. Which appears to be what the OP has done. All he needs to do is to supply the battery the name and brand of the battery he is using; and provide some connection details for those who are not conversant with circuits. Nice job though. |

I stumbled on this thread and i must confess, it looks very interesting even though some stuffs looks alien to me. But i think i might be interested. If i may understand, to get this to work, you need the following 1. UPS 2. Battery Charger 3. Battery If i may ask, what kind of battery ? Are we talking about Car batteries here or there's some special kind of battery for this. Kindly pardon my weird questions. As a lady, i find this task something of a challenge and i'd like to try it out as a lady. I might need help and more guidelines. Wouldn't be a bad idea if i choose the line of constructing an inverter for my friends Now following! 1 Like |

Is your friend using a 2.5 kva generator? Most 2.5 kva generator can power a 175w refrigerator if the engine is increased. initialize: |

Car battery is not a deep cycle battery... it is not meant for use with inverters. Car batteries are "majorly" meant for ignition. bigt2: 1 Like |

i just bought 30A charger from your friend at Labinjo street in mushin just now. I told him you were the one that directed me, he knows your name is CeeJay, I want to buy Mercury 200AH battery, i hope this your friend has this brand of deep cycyle battery. EDIT: I just called, he does not have mercury 200AH battery. ceejay80s:

Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by Nobody: 1:56pm On Jan 15, 2016 |
I just called the battery man at Oshodi, he does not have mercury 200AH battery, he said he has "Datson" or something, i didn't really hear the name correctly.. I am thinking of buying it on Konga, although their prices are usually higher. For example the 500 watts inverter that I bought on konga for N9750 (N750 was for delivery), the man at Labinjo street in Mushin sells it for N4000! Later in the year, when I have enough money I would buy 3000 watts inverter from the man at Labinjo street (Mushin) and connect it to the electrical mains of my house, I am thinking of getting 4 batteries (200AH) for this one. Thanks for the enlightenment on this thread, it is because of you I took action to buy the 500 watts inverter on konga and now this 30 amps battery charger. ceejay80s: 1 Like |

Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by Nobody: 2:39pm On Jan 15, 2016 |
In August 2015, NEPA brought a bill of N15,400 to my house. My average NEPA bill from December 2014 - January 2016 is N8,400. I stopped paying after NEPA brought a bill of N15,400 to my house... now, NEPA has cut my light... I only use generator. I use 4 litres of fuel a day, and I get 8 hours 15 minutes of light from it. My fuel cost is N10,800 for 31 days of generator light that I can control and is constant unlike NEPA that is erratic and sometimes i don't get light from NEPA for days. For 5 weeks spanning from end of May 2015 to the end of June 2015, there was no light in my group of closes because they took our transformer, yet NEPA still gave me a bill of N6,700. It pays me to use generator and back up with batteries than to pay my NEPA bill, because I would get more hours of electricity overall. ceejay80s: |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by ceejay80s(m): 2:58pm On Jan 15, 2016 |
TeOwl:Wow!!! Nepa really hurt u Did u check the make and model of 3000watts inverter? Make sure the inverter doesn't feed on the battery 24hrs , there are some inverters that are not plugged to the mains, those type of inverters feed on battery whether there's light or not, Like the ups that switches to battery mode when nepa takes ur light, ur battery starts working and it switches back to nepa mode when the light come back and the battery is charged until its full and ur battery rests |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by Nobody: 3:07pm On Jan 15, 2016 |
The make of the 3000 watts inverter is Suoer just like my 30 amps battery charger and 500 watts inverter. And I have not bought the 3000 watts inverter yet, I would buy it from your friend in Labinjo street, Mushin later on in the year. For now, I only have a 500 watts inverter for my TV, fan, decoder and laptop. ceejay80s: |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by ceejay80s(m): 3:12pm On Jan 15, 2016 |
TeOwl: ....and if u are going to connect the inverter to the whole house, make sure u change all ur bulbs to energy savers 5watt - 11watts bulbs , I couldn't get 5watts since oshodi was demolished but I was lucky to get a 7watts bulb in my street, waka well well u go see, make sure u don't iron clothes on it, no boiling ring, no electric cooker, 800ah battery no be beans o, that money go reach buy one small kabukabu car for taxi |
Re: How To Create A Locally Made Inverter With Ease by Nobody: 3:40pm On Jan 15, 2016 |
I am currently using 7 watts and 28 watts "white" light bulbs to reduce the load on my 2.5 kva generator (which can supply 2000 watts constantly and 2200 watts for a few minutes). Based on my calculation, I think I can use iron, boiling ring and electric cooker for a short period of time. Here is my calculation 24v x 400ah (4 batteries (200AH) connect in series because the inverter is 24 volts inverter) = 9600Vah 9600Vah x 0.88 (assumed efficiency of the 3000 watts inverter) = 8448Vah my iron is 1000 watts per hour battery bank capability on full charge = 8448Vah = 8448 watts 8448 watts divided by 1000 watts per hour (iron) = 8.448 hours. So, technically i can iron my cloth for 8.448 hours (8 hours 26 minutes), HOWEVER, I can only iron my cloth for maximum of 15 minutes in a day. 15 minutes (0.25 hours) using a 1000 watts iron = 250 watts I think the 3000 watts inverter and 4 (200ah) batteries can handle it. Your thread has made me read a lot on inverters and care of batteries to ensure its long life. I learned that: * If you don't discharge your batteries more than 50% of its capability before recharging its lifespan would be longer and AGM deep cycle batteries have a lifespan of 4 - 7 years when used properly. * And your rate of charge should not be more than C/5... (charging at C/4, C/3, C/2 reduces the lifespan of the batteries tremendously because you are charging too fast) ceejay80s: 1 Like |
