CHAPTER 1 A classroom filled with more than a dozen beautiful females, and ayo found himself staring at just one. He had had his eyes on the girl for more than a week now, since he started the computer school. Only just waitng for the right moment so he could make his move. God, i am getting to old for stuff like this, he thought to himself. Getting the girls was never a problem with him, because they always showed interest even before he walked up to them, but this one was different. She had not even looked at him for once. Not once. He had had it so easy with girls, he didn't know how to go about it if the girl was going to be difficult. The teacher started saying something that brought his mind back to the classroom. Something about a group assignment. The girl shifted in her seat and ayo got a better look at her. Black hair, brown skin, beautiful face, long legs, shapely athletic body. The girl always kept an expressionless look on her face, so it was hard to tell the kind of person she was. The teacher had started grouping people into three's, and giving them there various assignment titles. He'd call three names, and ask them to move up to the empty benches at the back, so they could get aquinted, and start discussing their assignments. Ayo thought of how he hated group assignments, he always liked to do his things solo. Before the university he attended went on strike a couple of weeks ago, he and a some of his course mates had been giving a group work due to be submitted the next week. Then the strike happened, and it was 4 weeks now. He hoped nobody remembered the assignment when they went back to school. He didn't even really care, because the ladies in the group always helped him out and he'd end up doing nothing. His looks had always helped him out, but not this time. Not this time. Ayo heard the teacher call his name, and he signaled by waving his hand. Then the teacher called another name he didn't know, he didn't even know anybody's full name. 'That is the last group. And i am sorry, but you are one man down, you just have to manage.' The teacher said, but ayo wasn't listening, because he just found out that he was going to be in the same group with the girl he had been day dreaming about. The girl picked up her bag and walked to the empty bench and table at the back, and ayo joined her. 'This is going to be your assignment.' The teacher said and handed them a small piece of paper. The girl smilled briefly, and ayo caught sight of the finest set of teeth he had seen thus far. Her face was even more beautiful when she smiled. 'Hi? My name is Anu.' The girl said with a straight look on her face. Ayo shook her hand and said ' I am Ayo. So i guess we are in the group together.' 'I guess so' 'And i can see you are not very interested in the work.' 'You guessed right.' She said and they both laughed. 'Lets just discuss the topic, then we'd go home and do some, , ' Ayo was saying then he paused when his phone started to ring. He made an apology sign to the girl before answering it. He spoke for a couple of seconds, irritation on his face around the last couple of seconds of the conversation. 'Sorry about that.' 'No problem. Can i see your phone?' The girl asked with her hands outstreched. He handed it over to her, and the sony ericson W810i passed an electrical current through it for the split second their hands held it. He sure as hell felt a jolt, whether he imagined it or it really happend, he was not sure. ' Can i see your pictures?' The girl asked. 'Sure.' Ayo said and was about to reach out and show her how to navigate through the phone, but he guessed she didn't need any help, as she was already going through it. After going through a couple of pictures, she turned the phone to face him and asked. 'Your girlfirend?' Ayo looked at the picture and saw that it was the picture he had taken of yemi, just this morning. 'No. My sister.' Ayo said and she kept on fliping through the pictures without anohter word. This girl must be a nut case or something, maybe that is why she does not talk much, ayo thought. She had not even known him for a minute and she was going through his phone. 'Don't worry, i am not a psycho.' She said without looking up at him. 'What?' 'I can read people's minds, and i know what you are thinking.' 'I wasn't thinking that.' Ayo said in defence. 'Even if i couldn't read minds, your face says it all.' She said. Ayo started looking to the left with his left eye, and to the right with his right eye. Trying to get a loook at his own face. Then the girl laughed and dropped the phone on the bench. 'Are you trying to see your face or what?' She said, still laughing. 'Yes. I guess that is what i am trying to do.' He said with a chuckle. 'hilarious. Very funny.' 'So the thing about reading minds, is it true?' 'So that means you really thought i was a looney?' 'Well, kind of.' The girl looked into space for a while before talking. 'The brain is like a radio. Not really, more like a two way device, in that it receives and lets out waves.' 'I don't get you. You mean the brain broadcast like a radio?' 'All your thoughts flow out of your brain like a wave on a frequency. And the barin also has the capacity to receive waves flowing from someone elses brain. So if you meditate hard enough, you get the frequency through which the next person to you is broadcasting, and you get all his/her thoughts.' 'No way. That's crazy.' 'It might sound crazy, but it works.' 'How are you sure?' 'Cos i tested it a couple of times and, look, i'm sorry, can we change the topic, i don't feel comfortable talking about this any longer.' 'Wow. Just a couple of seconds ago you were so happy to talk about it.' The girl didn't say anything, just put on the expressionless face ayo had known her with, then just as ayo was about to speak, she spoke. 'I'm sorry. It's just that my mom found out what i was doing with the mind reading thing, and asked me to stop because i was really getting deeper and deeper into it. I promised her i would never do it again.' 'It seem very interesting though.' 'Get this book, "think and grow rich" by napoleon hill, he talked about it in a particular chapter.' 'Howcome i have never heard of it. It does sound really realistic.' 'I don't know. Maybe there are just somethings we should leave alone if we want to live normal lives.' She said as she retreived her phone from her pocket and was waving it at ayo. 'Oh! Cool. We use the same phone. Can i see yours?' 'Sure.' She said and handed it over to him. 'So you don't have any Indecency on your phone, how come?' 'I'm not really into Indecency.' Ayo said without lifting his head. And then he lifted his head and looked the girl straight in the eye. 'How come you have so many pictures of "jessica alba" on your phone.' 'Because i like her.' 'And so many of scarlett johanson.' 'The same reason. Although i am thinking of deleting some of the scarlett johanson pics, she is starting to piss me off.' 'Halle berry, angelina jolie, monica belucci, salma hayek, eva mendez, and this chic i do not think, ' 'Let me see.' She said and leaned over to pear into the phone. 'Kerry wahsington. The girl that stared along side chris rock in "i think i love my wife.' 'Oh. Nikki right? Tha was her name in the movie.' 'Yeah.' 'Wow. No kim basinger, or meryl strip, or even sandra bullock, just the hoties' 'Well, I never really thought of it that way. So what's up with the work, i got to be somewhere.' 'The work?' Ayo asked. He had totally forgotten what they were put together for. 'Oh. Sorry. I totally forgot what we have to do.' 'Yeah. But more like what you have to do, cos i am not really into assignments.' 'Whoa. Why do i have to do it alone? I thought we agreed, ' 'Please!' She got up just then to give him a hug and a pec on the chic. 'I'll make it up to you, i promise.' She said and started working backwards towards the door, her eyes still leveled with Ayo's. Ayo noticed a girl at the door, he had not seen before. The girl grabbed anu from behind and she jumped, faced the person, and gave her a pec on the chic. Then she turned around and gave Ayo one last look and she was gone. Ayo thought about that look, no expression, just like a stare, like a blank check. So let me do a check on what just happened, i got to talk to the girl i have been dreaming about all week, and we are stock in a group together for at least a week, and we had a very nice conversation, and she even gave me a pec after only knowing me for just a couple of minutes, that is way good so far, Ayo thought to himself. He looked around the class, and everybody was in one group discussion or the other. The teacher had left the class. 12.05 by his time, that was 55 minutes to end of the school. He packed his perephenial and left. CHAPTER 2 On his way home, all he could think about was anu. Did she know he had had a crush on her way before they met today. The girl was like a mystery to him. It was too good to be true. He didn't even know what attracted him so much to the girl, cos she was not really his type. Or the prototype of the type of girls he normally got attracted to. It was deeper than attraction. And there chemistry was just to fantastic. He didn't need to open a gate cos their house did not have one. It must have probably been built for gt bank, he thought, cos gt banks dont have gates or fences. They moved into the first flat on the ground floor of the 2 storey building. All the flats were regular 3 bedroom apartments. His neighbour's mongreal dog gave him a greeting by wagging his tail and rubbing his rear on Ayo's leg. He got away from the dog and got to the door of his apartment. It would probably just be Yemi at home, as his parents were at work and his other siblings were in school. He found the door was opened as he was about to knock on it. And just as he was about to call out Yemi's name as he stepped into the living room, she jumped on him from behind. 'Yeah. Big brother is home.' 'Get off me and stop being a child.' He said as he turned around and around to shake her off. She was a petite girl. And at eighteen, she could pass for a 13 year old. Since after she finished secondary school last year, Ayo had been her best friend and only companion. Being that she was awaiting admission and didn't like to go out much, and Ayo was the only one she was in close contact with every day in day out. 'I am a child.' She said as she got off and gave him a playful shove. He stagged a bit then just sat on the couch closest to him. 'A child? If you were in london you would have gone through that stage, what is it called?' 'You mean when they lunch the girl out to the world, and she is viable candidate for suitors?' 'Yes. You read your novels well. But stay off the romantic ones, they'll ruin the way you are supposed to think.' 'How am i supposed to think?' 'You, Aww shit. Lets just forget all this talk. What have you been up to.' 'T.V, eating, sleeping, i'm really tired of this routine.' ' Sorry, you are stock with that for now.' Ayo said as he took of his long sleeved shirt, and was left with jeans and singlet. ' So will you take me to the new cinemas today.' 'The new cinemas?' 'Yeah. The one they opened close to, ' 'Yes i know about the new cinemas, but you make it seem like we had a pre-agreed arrangement.' 'Please!' She begged with her hands clasped together. Ayo's mind flashed back to earlier on in the day, when anu said the same thing. Women, they always have their way with men. 'So what car would we drive in.' 'Yes. Yes.' She shouted in triumph as she ran towards the house coridor. 'You still haven't answered my question.' 'The mechanic is bringing the audi home any minute from now.' She shouted out from her room. The t.v was on and Ayo reached out for the remote to flip through the channels. Nigerian t.v stations were getting more and more interestting to watch. He stopped at a channel that was showing what seemed to be a soap opera. In the scene, there was a guy and and a girl talking, then the girl moved up close and kissed the guy. They actually french kissed for a couple of seconds. A real french kiss, it really dazzled Ayo. Maybe this Nigerian stations were not even safe for Yemi to watch any longer, he thought to himself. He always acted like she was his responsibility. What ever she turned out to be was up to him. Just like yesterday she was celebrating her tenth year old birthday, and he was already in university. If he didn't have problems with his academcs then, he would probably be working in a bank somewhere on the island. He didn't regret what happend, it probably happend for a reason. His thoughts went back to anu, and he was happy he finally got to talk to her today. He'd probably invite her out to the eatery at the ground floor of the computer lesson building. He heard water splashing. Probably Yemi showering. Just as he was falling asleep, the land phone beside him shook him back to consciousness. He knocked a glass, half filled with water, to the floor as he stretched his hand to pick the call. 'Shit.' He exclaimed as he quickly picked the cup up to stop it from spilling all its content. The phone was on its second ringing session when he picked it. 'Hello?' 'Hey. Ayo are you home? Where is Yemi?' 'She's in the showers.' 'Emm, Tell her i have something to do for dokun's mom and i woould not be home early. I need her to prepare soup before your dad gets back.' 'Okay. I'll tell her.' 'Everything cool back there?' 'Cool.' 'Okay. See you later.' And she hung up before he said bye. Maybe she was in a hurry or something. Ayo heard a car drive in as he replaced the receiver. The audi is finally back, now he would be able to move around better, he thought to himself. The audi used to be there mom's car, till she got a kia rio, now it was like the childrens car. He's younger brother, bolu, was a book worm, and didn't show any interest in learning how to drive. Bolu was three years older than Yemi, and he was thinking he would probably teach Yemi how to drive before thinking of Bolu. The last of his sibling, titi was just 10, and nobody thought there parents were still having kids when they had her. She got into secondary school last year, and Ayo still saw her as a baby. Kids grow so fast, he thought. He did some thorough check up on the audi before letting the mechanic go. Apperently, he had already been paid, so there was no need for ayo to give him any money. He got back in the house and saw yemi fully dressed, on the floor, trying to mop up the water ayo had spilled on their marble floor. 'I saw a movie where a man slipped from water spilled on the floor, and died. So don't ask me why i am mopping in my out clothes.' She said. She was in a white and blue polo top, black jeans, and blue converse allstars. Ayo looked at her, and wondered why she always liked to dress masculine. She looked nice though, he thought. He walked up to his room to drop his bag and change. He thought he needed a shower. A quick one, so he got into his towel, and just as he was about to walk out of the room, yemi walked in, and went straight to the last wardrobe at the far end of the room, probably to get something. 'Hey. No privacy?' Ayo inquired. 'Sorry, just needed to get a rag in a hurry.' She said and was going through a pile of old clothes. 'And who said my room is where you find such.' 'Trust me, i've gotten a lot from here in the past.' She said as she held up a pair of boxers shorts and threw them away irritatingly when she found out what she was holding. Ayo just walked out of the room. As Ayo lay down to sleep that night, he wondered what tomorrow would be like. He remember ealier that night, when he and yemi had sat at an eatery at the cinema's, how happy she was to finally be out of the house. Life is too short to spend it doing nothing. He knew he had to make tomorrow and the days that were to come memories that would last in his head. CHAPTER 3 Ayo felt a hand tap him from behind and he turned round to see who it was. It was like his heart beat stopped for a split second when he saw her. Except for the lip gloss, she had no other form of make up on, but the beauty was too striking. Her face was plain. She was not shy, and not confident as well. Ayo just stood there staring at her, then she talked. 'Why did you want to see me.' She asked as she raised her eye brows up. 'You are so beautiful.' Ayo didn't know when the words came out of his mouth. 'Is that what you called me down here for?' She asked, still standing and swinging her bag from side to side, unphazed by what ayo had said like she knew he was going to say just that. 'No. No. Sit down.' Ayo said and motioned for her to take a seat opposite him. He had called her from the eatery beneath there classroom and asked her to meet him here. She stood for a couple more seconds not saying anything, then she sat down. 'Look, i don't really like coming down to this place, so tell me what you want to quickly, cos we don't have to submit the assignment till next week.' She said and looked straight in ayo's eyes. It made him nervous. He was wondering what happened to the friendly girl he had talked to yesterday. He didn't even know what to say. He was totally dumbfounded. Ayo finally managed to find his tongue after a couple of seconds. 'So how are you doing this morning?' He asked, and he didn't know if it was what he said, or how he said what he said, or just the time, but the girl smiled. Aww, he felt soo good. 'Fine.' She replied him. 'Okay.' 'So if you didn't call me down here to discuss the assignment, then that means, you called me here for personal reasons.' She said looking ayo straight in the eye. Ayo didn't say anything, but his face answered the question. Then she averted her eyes away from ayo and stared into space. 'I don't know how to tell you this, but, I just like to be very direct before, I, ' She was looking at the floor now. She was more ashamed than nervous. It can't be more than "i have a boyfriend", Ayo thought. That is the worst case scenerio. And he had not even thought of going that far yet, he just wanted to get to know her first. She reached into her bag and tore out a piece of paper from a jotter, and then used her hand to cover the paper while she wrote something down. She handed it over to him, her face with no expression. He read it and his face squizzed up in confussion. "I AM A LESBIAN" was bodly written on the paper. Ayo rolled up the paper in his hands and wanted to put it in his breast pocket, but she stretched out her hand indicating for him to pass it over. 'I don't normally care to tell people, but i don't know, i just felt i should let you know. You look like a nice guy and all that, and i don't want you having dreams.' She said as she put the rumpled piece of paper back in her bag. ' I'm sorry, it's just the way i am.' 'Whoa.' What a waste, ayo thought. He sat there looking at her, but she does not look like a lesbian, but do you know how lesbians look? He thought to himself. Now that explains all the sexy actress pictures she has on her phone, and probably the girl that came around was her partner. This is even worse than all the dissapointments, and let downs he had faced in the past. 'Hey. You are making me feel very uncomfortable with all the silence, say something.' 'So, ' 'Don't ask me how sure i am that i am a lesbian, because i know that is what's on your mind. You can't comprehend, you can't understand. You don't need to, just know that some of us are born that way.' 'Whoa.' 'I do not feel anything, and can not feel anything for you.' 'So even if i kiss you now, you wouldn't feel anything.' 'Nothing.' 'Can i try it?' 'Very funny. I'd probably throw up.' 'Whoa.' 'What do you want from me anyway? There are a lot of finer girls in that classroom.' She said 'You are different.' 'You got that right. And this probably the reason why you and i can't get together.' She said with a smile. Ayo laughed lightly at the joke. Then settled back to staring at her. 'Hey dont look at me like i am evil or something, you are making me feel bad. I don't even know why i am opening up to you like this, or why i am still having this conversation with you.' She said looking at ayo, wanting him to go back to his normal mood. 'Okay. Let me ask you a question, if i was straight, what would you need from me.' 'How do you mean?' 'I mean in the relationship.' 'Companionship, a friend, a lover, stuff like that i guess.' 'And sex ofcourse.' 'No.No. I dont place too much, Okay, let me put it this way, you are one of the must attractive girls i have come accross in my lifetime, but when i first saw you, sex was the last thing on my mind. I just wanted to own you.' 'Wow. That is frightening. You wanted to own me?' 'Not like that, ' 'I am playing with you, i get what you mean. I'm sorry though. My brother would be so happy seeing me having a conversation talking to a guy like you, but i have to be straight with you i can't deny what i am.' 'Well, ' 'You know, if you say it's my time, and companionship you want, i can give that to you. I can be your friend. Yes, i can do that for once. Would that be cool enough?' 'Yes.' Ayo smiled. Then she smiled. 'Don't worry, this is going to be better than you imagined it. Trust me.' She said and smiled. CHAPTER 4 The week went fast and ayo got to see her fewer times than he wanted, cos she said she had somethings she had to take care. They always communicated on phone, and at the back of ayo's mind, he still felt he could make her forget her homosexual ways. He could remember a time they were sitted together outside the computer school. just close by the fence and she was telling him how she had an affair with one of her brothers girlfriends, and how through that her brother got to know that she was a lesbian. She said her parents didn't know about it, that they just thought she was being a good girl by not messing with boyfriend. Fridays always feel so great. It's like everybody feels so relaxed and anything can happen. Ayo came late to class, and was trying to locate a chair with the many eyes staring at him as he entered the class when he felt a tug on his shirt. He looked and saw her indicating with her finger for him to sit beside her. She was wearing glasses, and had changed her hairstyle. He could not even remember the hair-do she had on before, but this was definately not it. The weave-on was low cut, sorth of like rihanna in the "shut up and drive" video. It really brought out her full beauty. He sat and raised his eye-brow in greeting, she just gave him two tumbs up, very unlady like. But he still found the act very appealing. She pointed at her book to indicate what they had done so far, and he nodded his head. The class went on for another fifteen minutes before the teacher ended it. A girl was trying to leave the class in a hurry, and she was on the same row as Ayo and Anu, her scarf got tangled around Ayo's arm and it came off, exposing a cleavage she was suing it to cover. 'Sorry.' Ayo apologised and handed her the sacrf. The gilr smiled, collected the scarf, and walked out of the class disorganised. She was light skinned, and very volumptous in the right places. I wonder why girls wear dresses like that, and then feel shy to walk around in them. Why wear them in the first place. Ayo was staring at the girls back as she catwalked out of the class. 'Hey.' Anu placefully puched him slightly on the shoulder.' You like her?' 'No.' 'But you would like to have sex with her?' 'Why do you have to be so raw?' 'Because i like to be very realistic. I like to say what's on my mind. Besides, i can see the look on your face.' 'So did you understand what the man was talking about with the, ' 'Don't change the topic.' 'You are so, Why do you have glasses on?' He said, looking at her quizically. 'You are not not going to change the topic. Do you want her?' 'You are making it sound like you can just get the girl to be at my feet or something.' 'No. I just like it when someone goes after what ever he/she likes. Like if i liked you, i would not stop at any cost to get you. Even if i just wanted to sleep with you.' 'Hmm.' She took a deep breath then faced Ayo with a serious look on her face. 'Look, forget all the rawness. You're a guy, you can't fool me that you don't think of stuff like that. And it is good for your ego, if you get stuff you feel you could not get. I bet you feel that girl is way out of your league?' 'Yeah. You can say that.' 'I bet you 100k you can get that girl.' 'But i don't want to.' 'You don't want to, because you feel you cannot get her.' 'Well, ' 'Face it. If you could you would.' She said and afcede him, trying to read his thoughts. 'I want you to do it for me. Concider it a favor for a friend.' 'Do what?' 'Get the girl.' 'What makes you belief i can get her?' 'Come on, look at you. You are a total hunk, which girl would not want you.' She said and Ayo started to blush. 'Or God, you are blushing.' She said laughing at him. That is the problem, you have low self esteem, that is the main reason why you should get this girl. Come on, i need a smoke, we'll talk downstairs.' 'You smoke?' 'No. I just felt like saying something to wake up your senses, i was begining to lose you to day-dream world.' She said as they made their way out of the class. Ayo was in front, and Anu a couple of paces behind. The girl passed by them on their way down the stairs. She was heading up the stairs, not as huriedly as she was when she left the class. Ayo and the girl made eye contact and they greeted casually before moving on. They went straight to the corner of the wall, that had become their new spot. 'Yeah. Fresh air.' Anu said and unbottoned the first two buttons of her shirt from the top. Ayo could not help but to stare, and she caught his gaze. Are you staring at me. Oh my God, you are looking down my blouse. Shame on you.' Anu joked and hit Ayo jokingly with her bag. 'Hey. Hey. I was not looking down your blouse, i just looked at you for like a split second.' She stopped hitting him, and the smile on her face disappeared to the normal expressionless face. 'How old are you.' She asked out of the blue. No pre-amble. 'Wow. Are you collected census data or something? How old am i? I am trying to recall what we were talking about beofre this slizzy enquiry.' 'No, seriously, i just want to know. No apparent reason.' '24' '24?' She excalimed, sounding shocked. She realised how shocked she must have looked, and re-adjusted her face back to no expression.' You mean you are going to be 24, or already 24?' 'What's with the age thing, you thought i was older? Cos a lot of chics always take me for an older guy. That is one of the advan, ' 'What month are you?' She asked, cutting him short. 'January. January 7th.' 'Wow. So your birthday was, 20 days ago? Cool.' 'How old are you?' '23.' 'What month are you?' 'December.' 'So you are going to be 23 in december.' 'No, then i would have said 22. I am going to be 24 in december.' 'Hmm. So, Hey what's up with the glasses?' 'I don't wear them always. come on, lets get our things and go to your house.' She said and dragged him into the computer school building. 'My house? What would we do there.' 'I want to collect that amanda bayne movie you told me about, "she's the man". I think i like the sound of it.' 'I could bring it for you on monday.' 'Hey. We're friends, we're like buddies now. It shouldn't be a biggie if i want to come over to your house. Besides, you should be happy, i would boost your ratings on your street.' 'I don't care about anybody on my street.' He said. Trying to convince her from this all of a sudden urge she had to go to his place. 'Hey. Why are you being so difficult? I am going to be so bored this weekend, i need stuff to do.' 'Okay.' He said and ran up to catch up with her. CHAPTER 5 Ayo checked with petty trade lady beside there house where they normally kept there key for when they went out, incase someone came back before the other, and Yemi hadn't left the key. She probably wasn't expecting him this early. It was 12 noon, and he normally got back at around 1.30p.m. If Anu didn't want to come over, he wouldn't have been home yet. He looked at her as he walked back to the house, she was sitting on the audi and lsitening to the music on her ipod. She waved him over as |

Hi Kay29000 I just finished reading Chapter 1 of your story and thought I'd drop you a few lines: You've got a good story going with a nice plot but there are some problems that need attention as you make your redrafts and editing. You still have a lot of grammar and punctuation issues to deal with on this piece. The dialogue is a little clumsy and will need polishing to give it the required punch! The story itself can be tightened. Basically you can convey the scene you've presented with fewer words and stronger verbs, etc. All these aside, I engoyed reading your story. thanks for sharing! |

Thanks for your comment. I'll definately work on all you have observed. |

It's not a tester. I already have the whole story in my head, its just the time to type it. Thanks for reading it and ur comment, i almost gave up on it after the comment b4 u. I agree i have work on the grammartical errors, but to change the dialogue would be killing what i set out to achieve. If you've been watching the latest hollywood movies you notice the plots are very unconventional. It might even seem like there are missing scenes, but you just have to use your intelligence to put two and two together. |
