Just got back to Nigeria few months ago after 7 years in eastern Europe, I studied there and worked 2 years there and saved up. Now I am in Nigeria, I know 2.5 is very little but at least it is something. What type of business can i start with this?

Pls help a brother out

Well done bros, it is not easy. Although I have not moved out of Nigeria border, but I believe that you didn't get such net by roadside. My advice is as follows:

1. Please beware of 419 on this forum: do not respond to any pm. if you do, shine your eyes and make use of your brain.

2. If you want to start business, it may require a little visibility study which may require enormous time: invest in cash and cash equivalent for like two or three months. e. g fixed deposit or treasury bill.

3. Are you interested in land? If so, use the half of your money to buy plots of land. With 1m, you can get genuine 2-3 plots of land not necessarily in Lekki, Ajah or VI but in Lagos-Ibadan express road. Depending on your mission, they can be left for a longer period or resell if you need more liquidity. Land can never depreciate even if you want to resell it within three months. Through this, the left over after 1m has been spent on landed properties could be used to start a little business from the scratch.

4. Beware of Niger gals: please do not hesitate to bolt if you find a gal that cannot help you to sustain your vision financially.

No more time for me on this forum: I salute your courage.

There is a lot of money in the construction industry. Make a little study and invest in block making industry. Although the amount you have may not be enough, but it will get you started if you are meticulous enough.

You can still go into clothing business.

All you you is forensic study.

Good Luck.......but not Jonathan

We make joke of anything and this is not helping us as a country. Even if the OP doesn't mean what he is asking for nothing stops you from giving him a proper advice.
This kind of question should wake you up to reality instead. When I saw this question, I didn't come up with an ideal business and that alone scared me. I want to be a business man but can't answer or advise OP on this. This stuff should challenge us. Don't joke with everything in life. We have different sections in Nairaland and even joke section. OP's success in his biz could lead to progress of this country, he can be an employer of labour in the nearest future.
OP, my advice is this:
What people really need to make it in life is not money but experience. You are educated but not experienced. You need it. Igbos believe in serving people(boy-boy). Those guys that go through "boy-boy" can make 50k worth 3million in 3years. Keep you money far from you and go and get experience. You can do this by applying for job in your area of interest.

I am going to be sincere with you.

FiRST: you can open a classic barbing salon with that money and I assure you.
With a nice location, you will be wowed by the income.
You don't have to fear about your workers stealing from you and taking you out of business, cos with security camera installed. You can review all the day activities.
Even when NEPA take light, they will have to on Gen and this will activate the security system. Even person cough you go know, wether you dey there or not.

This has been working for me.

SECONDLY: you can get 10 cars with that money. With that you can start your own mini transport company. With time you will see heavy return and expand the business.

NOTE: this is a risky business, but don't forget that each breath you take is also a risk.
Man must take risk to survive and succceed, even dangote will confirm this law of success.

THIRDLY: you can start importation business with just 1M that will give you return of 3M within two to three months.
I can give you contact for that for free.

LASTLY: the other business require big fund, which you don't have now. When you have more capital. Contact me and I will show you men that will help you.

I no they collect dime from you.

MODIFIED

Please don't contact me for anything.

I have changed my mind.

Like how much will it cost to open a barbing saloon?

Don't respond to anyone requesting you to contact them privately, most of them are only after your money. Tell the person to respond publicly on this thread you created.
If anyone advises you publicly here, you will have opportunity to get reliable evaluation from others.
Re: What To Do With 2.5 Million Naira by DedeNkem: 3:29am On Sep 05, 2015
Best advice: Invest in government bond. It's a long term investment, your profit is backed by the government and your capital will never disappear.
For example, if the interest is 10%, you'll receive ₦250,000.00 per year on your ₦2.5M investment. You can reinvest your profit to increase your bond value.
Bond is the safest investment.

Hi, i have a restaurant chain business idea, and have been looking for a partner or an investor. The restaurant if executed properly would be very lucrative. I have estimated the start-up cost to be between N600,000 - N700,000. The restaurant will target middle and low income earners and can be expanded into any part of the country. Lagos is the state i would prefer starting because it has desirable factors that will help the business grow faster. The restaurant will have a couple of chains and a corporate head that will manage the day to day activities of all the restaurant chains. So if you are interested and want to hear more let me know.

@ fucklikant101, rent a shop elsewhere, go to lagos and buy laptops (new or old), stock your shop and sell.

2) Go to lagos, bcom a mini dealer for a specified android phone ( huawei), sell it in another state where your shop is.

3) Buy mobile phone accessories| computer accessories and sell elsewhere.

Note: never underestimate online marketing, u never can tell where your buyers are coming from.

4) Set up strategic locations, employ immigrant workers, get a beautified canopy, buy barbecue stand where you can smoke TILAPIA FISH, in it, create a spicy sauce or stew, serve in take away pack; make sure you use white poly bag so as when customers carry it , they carry with confidence. If Tilapia is not available, find other alternatives like pork frying, smoking mutton(just like suya)..replicate it in different zones

5) Think of agric food supply business. Hit lagos market. Eg: find out when food are coming into lagos, if it is onion, yam, egg, etc.. Buy from the trailer, arrange your stock, load them in your transport vehicle , store in a warehouse(store room).. Pls do ur research on what state or area to sell it or supply to..

In life, we may not have the skill or talent but we have the money to start a business, some of these guys ve the skils but dey ve no money to start up. Think out of the box; use people who have talent, skills and make money out of them. Become an employer.

There r people who can sew, repair cars, do woodwork etc... Create a company, it shud ve a name,a brand,a logo.. Employ a few in whatever sector, monitor watch your business grow.. Imagine u buying a small piece of land, creating an auto workshop with a name attached to it. Many habokis come to the south everyday in search of jobs, even if you put a fraction of your money to 10 haboki; buy wheel barrows, buy vegetables, food and stock their wheel barrow so that they can sell for you.. Every 100 naira one haboki brings to you as profit in a day multiply by 10 haboki is a 1000 naira by 30 days would give you 30k naira is something..

Don't rush, just take your time, find out what best that suites you. Trust me,it is easy for you to spend the money carelessly to those business who have set-up for people like you to spend your cash. If you don't act, you can't make money.

I think you'll get better advice if you tell us
more about your strengths and your experience.

Business is not just about money. It's about
people, starting with the business owner.

If you only pick an idea just because it requires
N2.5m to start up, what happens if such a business
doesn't play to your strengths?

Shine your eyes!
