God bless you brotherly. Information is very key. Op just follow this instructions. I swear your money must drop. No need to make too much noise or argument. The only thing you'll pay for is money to post the letter of invitation by OPD to your boss. The money is like 300 naira or so. Nairalanders with genuine issues should always make use of OPD. They are very effective and helpful. Lagos state really tried for this one. They once assisted me and it was swift.

I hope say them go dey as effective this Ambode tenure as they were during Fashola's. Cos I no just understand this Ambode man.
it also depend on ''who'' is the boss if he among the choosen ones sorry bro might take two weeks at most
okon la pe jiye lan yor (many are called few were choosen) not that those that were not choosen were bad or wicked no!!!!
Such is life.

It's really pathetic....I think the best thing u can do in this situation is to tender your resignation letter. I mean officially o,then demand for your outstanding salary. All these one-man business/ SMEs are always difficult to deal with in terms of salary and they mostly get away with it. I just hope you have your appointment letter with you and you understand the terms of the letter.

I advise u take a teaching job closer to your location while you are waiting for your dream so as not to remain idle. At least a secondary school paying u 25k is better than 40k paid by the company out of which 15k goes for transportation and its not even paid on time.

Walahi!

One man business? This is one of the reasons why some of them fail. Sin against human.

I walked with two before I got a multinational company. The first will pay 15th of the following month.

While the second, I walked with him for just a month and two weeks. The first two weeks he paid and expected I do all my official assignments with the two weeks salary. The other one month salary he did not pay till today since April 2009.

Oh how I suffered then, I reside in ojuelegba then, I walked half way to cms cos I had only 50 naira on me.

I got to his office and begin to beg him to pay me that I don't have anything to eat. See allegations upon allegations, but that day he gave me 5k out of the 45k he was supposed to pay me. I came back and laid a curse on his business, that it will not flourish, this man was adamant.

After two years, something in me told me to visit the office and set his business free, I fought it for long and I finally obeyed my spirit, I went and behold, he became lean, they can't even on the AC, he was owing office rent of 18months, him and his business were opposite of what I left him.

I told him God said I should come and tell I have forgiven him and the money he should forget.

He was happy and I prayed for him and his business.

Hmmm, no man should owe another man for his or her God is not asleep.
Thank God you did the right thing, God really fought for you,( surely He is a God of recompense) .Imagine the innocent children he brought to the world would have been suffering for their father's sins. That is why people should have the fear of God and be careful because karma has a way of fighting back, I am sure you must have been weeping while trekking from Ojuelegba to CMS. I don't even know why most Nigerians are becoming heartless everyday, and the way they flaunt their ill gotten wealth is totally disgusting .

Later the same iiidiot employer will come on NL and say that nigerian graduates are unemployable. I don't know if they are looking for employees that will turn water into wine and change their mushroom company to a multibillion dollar company just like that. Some employers need real flogging.

OP, sincerely, I feel your pain. I just got out of something like that too, though mine seems a little tougher than yours. I worked for over 9months without no pay in one of the multinational Companies in the Country(tho franchised)under the excuse of 'the company is going through some financial stress bla bla bla ,and what did I get in return?...a blatant allegation that I was stealing his money. He went as far as requesting I drop my phones so he can check for alerts of 'diverted' payments from Customers. He didn't see anything and of course, wasn't satisfied. The height of the insult was calling my bank, where he happened to be a former staff, to request my account statement which the mumu accounts Officer gave to him, forgetting that it is against the ethics of the job. Of course, he didn't see anything. There and then, I made up my mind it was time to leave. It's till now, the best decision I have made in my life. So, cheer up....it's an experience gained. God will make ways of better places for you soon. Move on.

Sue the Bleep...g bank for violating your privacy. No employer should have access to your statement of account. God has opened a window of opportunity for you to make money from that bank.

Until Lawyers are allowed to specialize, advertise and take jobs with liens on awards in lieu of payment, issues like this will continue unabated; so called employers are taking advantage of desperate people seeking employment and it's only going to get worse; my advise is that if you can afford a lawyer, sue the business, but if not, cut your losses and seek alternative employment immediately

The very 1st sensible solution to op challenges! Well done
F22RAPTOR:

Oh dear, so sorry about what has happened. I will not try to rationalize what has happened to you, its very wrong and unfair. Your boss is a wicked person and should pay up for the job you have done, A laborer is worthy of his wages. Just let Karma do her job, she does it so well you'll be impressed. Please do we have a minister of labor and productivity? I have been reading a lot of abusive bosses stories lately. Something needs to be done about this.

The Office of the Public Defender of Lagos State is the first of its kind in Nigeria. The legal staff of the OPD, though government employees, launch and fight human rights suits against government agencies. And they do so vigorously.

[quote author=olasmith10 post=39977854]The mentality of employers towards employees has bn wired wrongly in dis country..Young lady, if u decide to whine over dis issue, it will only complicate matters due to the fact that u need to keep income rolling for the benefit of urself and ur family.. you really have no problem.he said u can stop.stop and make a claim for arrears owed to you and im sure the money owed as debt will not be enough to make the man run away from nigeria.if a business has prospers, staffs enjoys and when a company sufffers, staff also suffer.next time look for nigeria lng where your salary for the next 30years is already in a fixed deposit account.

I dont know if this is the best platform to express myself but i just want to cry out as there is power in the social media. I am a young girl of 27 years. I live with my dad in lagos, lost my mum 10 years ago and have been sustaining the family for a while now as my dad's business collapsed due to some circumstances. I am a graduate and very hardworking, i have worked in few places in the past but i want to say i haven't been lucky.

I worked with a transport company in ikeja as at feburary and after working for 3months we were asked to stop with no pay on the note that the company was collapsing and they had no money to pay staffers. It was so painful because i live at iyanoba and have to go through a whole lot of stress and pay up to 700 a day for transport to be at work despite we worked weekends. I felt so used but prayed to God to take control and judge them.

I got another job in september at ikeja i didn't want to take it because i had my fears about salary issue after my past experience but looking at the situation at home where they depended on me for survival i had to let go of my instincts and take the job. It was very stressful, the distance, the constant work on the system and sometimes starving just to be able to save up for transport. Despite the distance i always got to the office by 7:30am to resume 8:00am so you can imagine when i leave my house.

When it got to pay time, i was told my boss travelled and there was no talk on salary till after a long while. i also want to add that on one of those occasions i was going to work i was robbed and my phones taken from me, it was so painful but then its part of life. My female boss eventually took pity on me and paid me for September, i told her i would like to stop but she encouraged me to continue with the impression that i was just tested on my patience. I continued work and now halfway into this month of November i am yet to be paid for October.

The worst part is my boss has refused to show up at work, he avoids calls and sends no message. I eventually got across to him with a strange number and when he picked he said he has a lot of issues his going through but i can stop coming to work; just like that. I asked him for my pay and he said no money at the moment i should stop.

I really feel bitter as i have no one to fight for me and worse is i have debts i incurred in the process of going to work. How do i offset them and start again when am practically cashless. My monthly pay is 40,000 and it can't be too difficult for a man his caliber to pay but i feel he just wants to cheat me knowing there is nothing i can do.

Please nairalanders what do i do? i feel so bad, i don't even know what next to do as am so confused.

Why are the employers taking advantage of the jobless graduates and using them? How bad can it be for someone not working and then after working you get tossed in the bin? I want God to intervene but i need help. Please pardon any grammatical blunders and errors, as i am not in the right frame of mind.

Thanks.

Pls send me an email I have a job offer for you guaranteed... I don't realy No grew to use NL other than read and comment..

The thing is that, before you take on these jobs..make sure they have a reliable payment structure that is to say..when you given ur letter of employment, make sure u look at the terms and conditions, also talk to staffs that have been there before you..so you don't just take your self in to slavery

My dear u haven't realized its d pattern. That's what makes you a boss when there is no money. You pay yourself and tell your staff no money. U should try learning a skill or owning your. Own. You mustn't be an employee. At least not all the time.

hank anuku and chika ike made a great film on the abuse of some of these inhumane employers and so-called big boys that treat people like garbage. seems like some of them need to be touched up like in this fictional piece of artwork.
