@ modath; inspiring story grin. So whats your current weight now? I read that article, I think it boils down to self control when it comes to eating especially after exercisse.

Logs 7/10/2010

B 1 serving of oats + 1 tbsp of peak milk powder + 4 Slices of dodo + 1 serving of omellette
L 1 serving of Eba + mixture of Okro and vegetable soups + 1 shaki & 1 piece of beef + 2 slices of
watermelon + 1 orange.
D 1 serving of boiled beans + 1 wheat loaf (small ones)+ 2 pieces of fried fish. 3 slices of pineapple.

Water: 2.15 L
Exercise: 30 mins walking
45 mins jogging /walking .

@Sammie,
I weigh between 77-79kg depending on what my body is going through,but the lovely thing is that my waist measurement at the indentation is now 34.5", the belly button 37" and lower belly is 38" when it used to be around 45".
As for the Time magazine article,he was talking about thinness which should not be all exercise is for,most people don't want to be thin[except for celebrities],they want to look GOOD and FIT,Obese and overweight folks don't need to be told they will fail without even trying,and most people start getting healthy by first exercising then learning how to make the right food choices,then portion control voila,a rebirth.
I am exercising to lose body fat and have toned muscles.
My regime these days.
25 mins brisk walking,5 mins stepper,15 mins skipping,i then spend 15-20 mins on alternate days doing strength training with both my body weight and 3kg dumb bells[derived from a mix of sand and water in a 1.5litres Eva bottles, cos i am too miserly to buy 2k.g dumb bells for 4-5k]
Sammie, you think after i do all these i will then turn my body to a junk yard,hell to the effing noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!.

B - 4 slices of wheat bread, lil butter and beverage, skimmed milk no sugar

L - 1.30pm 1 medium roasted unripe plantain and a handful of groundnuts

snacked on small pcs of white bread and lil butter 6.50pm

D - 2 servings amala, ewedu, 1 pcs of chicken and ponmo

Water intake - dint count

Exercise - Hubby just bought. . . . "tummy trimmer". Tested it by doing 25 leg raises with the suff

@ Romeo pls help with this question. Some one told me that walking burns more fat than jogging while jogging just expends energy. Ineed to know if i should focus more on walking

I started seeing results a few weeks after i started, i started with brisk walking,introduced the right foods[goggled them],eliminated the bad foods[sugar and white flour] then l portion control[my major weakness].
Look at this analogy,would you desecrate a temple that you are making every effort at beautifying?my secret is simple if i make the effort and sleep @10 p.m so that i can be up by 5.15 a.m to do my workouts,it will be very and i mean very difficult for me to put junk in my body cos i am better than that, i do overeat on numerous occasions,its just always the right stuff.some friends used to be crossed when they offer me sugared drinks[apart from amstel malta] and i refuse it,but they are slowly realising that i have embraced a new lifestyle and they now understand.
Some months ago,i got addicted to tasty fiesta thinking it was baked, the day i found out its fried, i gave up the addiction pronto.
Sammie,it may not be what you want to hear but you can do it too.

It was 81kg today after using the bathroom. Hmmmmmm, it is good to be 'weighed on the scales and found WANTING'. Hi to y'all, we shall all get there and STAY there.

am back 4 real,i was n't keen on posting my logs bc i was just exercising small n i ate healthy 4 sometime n within 2 weeks
ppl started commending ma looks but i slacked n my hubby just noticed that am no more into my new habit he encouraged me to start.
@ modath ur reply 2 sammie is so encouraging,plz can u guys monitor my logs and criticise me where necessary

@ Modath thanks I will keep trying. Forgive my indulgence are u a full time HW, because for me I wake up by 4.20am and still can't meet up with exercises every morning, from studying, to cleaning, praying and the whole lot, most times i have to skip exercises. There must be something you know that I dont. Please share. I have to leave the house n most days by + - 9am.

@ chinwe , Welcome.I think you should review your target downwards to like loosing 8 kg

Welcome back,dont be hard on yourself,lifetime habits aint easy to break free from,just take each day as it comes and continue to be strong,it will get easier.
@Sammie,i wake up between 4.50-5.00A.M.,the time is to put things in order before work-out
1.I dont plan my day for exercise,i incoporate exercise into my day.
2.I am not working full time[i attend a lang class 10-12 a.m] at the moment ,used to work in a bank,but i have little children aged 4 and 20 months that i need to prepare for school and day care every weekday before 7.am,i plan my day the previous day.
3.I am a CHRISTIAN but not a religious person so i say my prayers while during my brisk walk,i am of the school of thought''God is everywhere" so he hears me anywhere i talk to me.
4.My nutrition is the missing link,it is almost sugar free,fried food less,and almost junk non existent.i can run from my house to aso rock everyday,if my diet is bad,I'll still be a lard ass.
N.B--My hussy is very encouraging and I also have help in my house but i supervise all aspects of my everyday life.

I just noticed the studying thingy,are you preparing for an exam?if you are,ditch the morning exercise and brisk walk at night for 45 mins,just make sure you are constantly moving around during the day,and eat a balanced diet,you know 80% of the battle is in our diet.
I dont exercise everyday,[ i do it 5 days a week],the days i don't exercise i don't sweat it or agonize over it,cos i now habits are not what we do occasionally but what is part of us.

L - 1.00pm - 4 slices wheat bread, stew and beverage with skimmed milk, no sugar

L - 2.30pm - 2 servings rice, 4 fried plantain and a piece of chicken

D - (I think nil)

Water Intake - 2 ltrs,

Exercise - 6.45am - Brisk walking on the spot for 5 mins, Lunges (20, 15), Squats (20, 20, 15), biceps curls (2x20), raising dumbbells both upwards and sideways(20, 10), stretched for 3 mins.

I cant run evening session, feeling really sick.

12.00- pawpaw, lots of it

Apologies for the delay! This is not quite true. As with everything, the devil is in the detail, and it depends on a number of factors - the purpose of the jogging, duration/intensity of the jogging, how much the jogger weighs, etc.
Brisk walking burns as much calories as medium intensity jogging. High intensity jogging burns more calories than brisk walking. Truth is if you are overweight, you will not be able to run that fast over a long period of time anyway. Also, jogging is not recommended for weight loss because  the extra weight puts a lot of stress on your joints - hips knee, ankles, etc. This will eventually cause injuries, so for the purpose of a weight loss programme, brisk walking is fine.


@nonnyp - I cant see any exercise in your logs.

Welcome to the thread. Though eating fruits is very healthy and good for you,  you will NOT lose 15kg in 30days on a fruit only diet - It can be done if you eat nothing at all (except water), but this will not be healthy for you. Also, a fruit only diet is NOT sustainable, unless you intend to continue on it for the rest of your life.
What you need to do is to implement a lifestyle change consisting of a healthy eating regime, combined with exercise so the weight loss is (1) healthy, (2) permanent.

Do be aware that though Papaya is generally good for you, it contain certain chemicals that if consumed in large quantities can have very serious side effects. High quantities of Papaya have been found to have a contraceptive and abortive capability in animals. Unripe Papaya is also known to cause miscarriages in animals.  Papaya also contains large amounts of Phytochemicals, which may suppress the production/effects of Progesterone.

It also contains a chemical called Carpaine, which is used as a de-worming agent, and can be very dangerous in high doses.

My routine to keep in shape I spend 1 hr at least in the Gym 7 days a week 2 times a week Pilates or Yoga
my typical breakfast egg white with toasted wheat bread orange juice and green tea or oatmeal with soy milk
for lunch grill chicken or salmon sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes
for Dinner vegetables rice and beans or fish fillet with noodles cup of free fat Yoghurt
I snack on baby carrot grapes nuts and berries
No hydrogenated oil butter cheese salt or mayonnaise in my food
No alcohol soda or cigarettes just water and orange juice
