Laporta: “I want to give public thanks to Eto’o”

An assembly of FC Barcelona members took place this afternoon at the Palau Blaugrana. After a brief introduction from director Josep Cubells, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta took the stage for his last event of this type as president of the club.

Laporta begun by reviewing the events of last year, including the incredible successes of the club. He also conveyed his appreciation for the confidence the staff showed in both him and in coach Pep Guardiola.
Laporta also stressed that the club was economicaly sound, and announced that therefore the price of becoming a club member will not be increased.
However the highlight of the assembly was when Laporta gave his thanks to former FC Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o, who moved to Italian side Inter a few weeks ago.
“I want to give public thanks to Eto’o,” Laporta declared. “He had to leave due to technical decisions that have already been explained, but I feel we owe him a public gratitude”.
“He has defended the shirt of Barça until his last moments [at the club], has been a professional and a great scorer of goals, very important goals. It is only right to thank him for all this”.
“Furthermore, until the hour of his departure, he has been a worthy and elegant person. We, the culés, will always have him in our memory”.

Laporta’s tribute to the strikre provoked a standing ovation from the assmebly, which was extended a few minutes later when Laporta also showed similar gratitude to Brazilian full back Sylvinho who also left the club this summer.

Pep wanted a different striker right from the start. He wanted a big man. . .Adebayor was the first player he asked for but it didn't work out, and Eto'o wouldn't leave.

wot do u expect when the majority of nigerians are fans of the epl not football. I am even noticing man city naija fans shocked shocked shocked Incredibolous grin. When did they start supporting man city? . All naija peeeps know is to carry their big mouth and shout premiership as if the stadiums dey their backyard. Ask the average fan about the great milan, ajax, madrid sides they would be left dumbfounded
Re: Barcelona Fans Thread by biina: 5:22am On Aug 20, 2009
I think the popularity of the EPL is a result of various factors which include language, availability for viewing in Naija, many Nigerians played(or used to play) there and population of Nigerians in UK.

Laporta:”We`d love to sign Robben”

Catalan newspaper “El Mundo Deportivo” brought the story of Spanish sports reporter Juan Carlos Rivero who talked about his meeting with FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta 3 days ago.
In reference to Real Madrid`s midfielder and Dutch international, Arjen Robben, Laporta was reportedly quoted saying:
“We would be delighted to have Robben at Barca. As I understand Real Madrid are looking to sell him for 20 million euros but I`m sure that if we should make an offer they would increase the price to 200 million”.  ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Guardiola: “Ibrahimovic needs playing time”

FC Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was satisfied with the performance of his team against Manchester City and also the work of star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Despite the defeat at the hands of Manchester City, the Barca coach appreciated the efforts of his players, “We’ve made many changes during the match. The young players showed a good level, and some of the players who recently recovered from injuries have been given playing time. Others like Xavi have been given rest, but in general, I am very pleased with the performance. There has been some imbalances, but overall I’m satisfied,” he said.
Guardiola also talked about the work of Ibrahimovic, who played his first minutes as a Barca player after recovering from the hand surgery he suffered this summer. “Ibrahimovic has trained alot, but he lacks playing time, he needs more minutes on the pitch. We’ll see if he’ll play in the Super cup. He will gradually learn how to play with his team-mates, it is normal that he is learning now, I am happy with how he played,” he added.
The coach also assured that Ibrahimovic “did not play for a long time, he lacks continuity but he will improve with playing time. He hasn’t trained fully until only two days ago, his recovery required him to avoid any physical contact during training, but he moves well and trains hard. He has come to us for five years, not just for one day. We must have patience for him to show the same level he had in Italy.”

Guardiola also acknowledged that he is proud of the youth players, and is glad FC Barcelona has a great youth system full of talents. “I am very happy with them, all the youth players who took part so far such as Fontas, Muniesa, Montoya, Jeffren, or Gai among others will start the season with the youth team, but they could be called up. Everyone has been good, I am very pleased with all of them and the spirit they’ve shown” he said.
Guardiola also talked about Andres Iniesta who did not appear in any of the pre-season matches so far due to a muscle injruy. “Little by little Iniesta will return to the team” he concluded.

He actually was not gonna overdo himself, i figured once he gets the ball, he passes it back immediately, and he is yet to understand those tricky passes from Messi.
