I have a question though, the word Oba is a Yoruba word. How come that's what the Benin monarchy uses to address their king?

we have only two kingdom: the bini kingdom and united kingdom. ask the british or portuguese. some one should remind that ooni that the palace of oba still remain ancient just as it was hundreds of years ago. and the oba never leaves his palace instead all other king do pay him a visit. the queen of england recognize only one oba and that is the oba of benin. let me also inform all those who attend catholic church that the first mass in west africa was said by the great oba of bini. oba esigie

many first class monarchs are under oba of Benin,especially oba of Lagos,obi of onitsha,asagba of asaba,olu of Warri,dein of agbo etc. Even the traditional bands of Lagos,'eko' is a bini word....ooni should go and rest joor

the binis are saying that there is nothing like oba in yorubaland but its a lie because even before they start using the title (oba) people are already answering the name. Sango's second wife's name name is Oba who according to history turned into a river in the present day IWOLAND.

Not according to "history"....according to myths and legends. and this is the problem with our traditional facts and fictions
