TheGoodJoe: Very rarely do your have players playing the traditional wing play staying out wide, sometimes you have a fusion. Liverpool play with two inverted wingers and of anybody is going wide it's the wing back π. You will constantly see Diaz , Jota , Salah even Nunez ( he struggles with this formation) coming in inverted. Arsenal with Saka play such intricate positional interchange, it's difficult to say exactly the level of positional play. Not surprising Saka scored the most goals and had the most assists. At the heart β€οΈ of the matter is the quality of the players. Ronaldo played from the left but you wouldn't call him a traditional winger. With regards to Ejuke would you really drop Ademola for him π²π² |

TheGoodJoe:Childera Ejuke can play the LWF in a 3-2-4-1. ......Walker....Dias.....Akanji...... ............ Stones .....Rodri ............ Alvarez.....Debruyne Bernardo........... ..... Foden ............. Haaland....... Lookman and Iwobi takes the place of Alvarez and Debruyne while Ejuke and Chukwueze takes the place of Foden and Bernardo. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by codemaniacs: 10:04am On Jun 10 |
komekn: stop putting words in the TheGoodJoe mouth.. he did not say anything about dropping Lookman.. He said Ejuke should have been called up... Any sensible person who watches football and knows player positioning well also knows that Lookman should be in a central position or make moves into the Central position he can't do that when he is on left wing and no one is helping to cover and defend the left wing.. Super Eagles formation is very easy to create unless its a sentimental coach that's coaching them... Ejuke on the LW or Moses Simon Boniface as Central Striker if Osimhen is not available Chukwueze on the RW Lookman as CAM or SS behind the striker Iwobi as CM with license to attack so its a CAM/CM role Onyeka as DM if Onyedika is not available Zaidu as LB Bassey as LCB if Ekong is not available Ajayi as RCB if Ekong or Ndidi is not available Ola Aina as RB Nwabali as GK S.E can also play with 3-5-2 or 3-5-1-1 but the wingers will have to also drop back defend which is something S.E wingers don't like doing that's why Adingra got an assist in AFCON.. 3-5-1-1 or 3-3-3-1 will be Boniface as CF Lookman as SS Ejuke as LW Chukwueze as RW Iwobi as CAM/CM OnyeKa as DM Onyedika as DM Bassey as LCB Ajayi as CB Ola Aina as RCB Nwabali as GK 6 Likes 3 Shares |

TheGoodJoe: This is 100% false. Go watch our semi final game at the afcon against South Africa. We played a high line. |

komekn: Well, we are still trying to get full grip of Finidi's playing pattern but from my general understanding of offensive play, if you have a MF or SS attacking the half spaces, then you play a full back that offers width (Walker and Gvardiol). If you play an LWF, then you play a full back that inverts (Sergio Gomez and Rico Lewis). In the choice of LWF, I will pick Childera Ejuke. To me, he looks better hugging the touch line and making solo runs. In the case of LMF or LSS, I will take Lookman because he is brilliant in combinative plays and exceptional in shooting. |

damagnificentusb: Generally, I never saw us play a fluent highline. No just when the opponents are sitting back but a general style of play. I don't see Peseiro as a coach with an offensive philosophy. |

codemaniacs: 3-3-3-1. This formation used to be so brutal under Marcelo Bielsa's Chile. Very offensive, creative, very organized defensively and had goals. So much joy to watch them. I agree with the formation and we will get to know Finidi better today. Let us watch his arrangement again. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe:There is nothing like playing inverted fullback to invert since fullbacks are not mediums of staging attacks like modern day wingbacks. That is the job of inverted wingers. Inverted fullbacks comes into play when you have a defender that can use both feet to make overlapping runs and cross the ball in the absence of a natural fullback in that respective position. E.g Cancelo, Camavinga |

Liposure: I agree with the first part but not the second. Inverted full backs come into play for two reasons. One is to build play, second is to prevent counters from the half spaces. When you have your AMF's pushing high, there is a gap for attack behind them. The inverted full backs fall into there to defend the space. Then finally, they can help in attack but primarily is to help increase number during build up plays and defending counters. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 11:27am On Jun 10 |
Liposure: So it is after the ball has progressed to an attacking phase that inverted full backs can contribute, depending on their attributes. Would like you to view it through the spectacles of Zinchenko and Rico Lewis. |

TheGoodJoe:What you see as inverted fullback is sweeper role. Watch Pep and Arteta, that is what they do. When their teams are going forward they bring in extra man from defence to join the midfield. Akanji and Partey are prime examples |

Boniface won't be starting today. He looks so unfit and favt,he also came last in dwells according to the fitness trainer of the team. He will be coming from the bench in the second half. He is still recovering from the injury that stopped him from starting in the Europa League final. 1 Like |

Finidi is considering replacing Tanimu with Awaziem, though I prefer Sodiq Ismael to the both. Sodiq Ismael is more of an attacking outlet and can get us goals and assists. |
