Aramaic Wording Of The Gospels by Nobody: 8:46pm On Mar 30, 2016 |
Hey guys, I have decided to work on a project, reconstructing the gospels in an Aramaic context. As most of you probably know, Aramaic was the language which Jesus spoke..... I have decided to retranslate the gospels to find out the actual Aramaic wordings as it would have been quoted or said originally.... Below is a portion of Mark's gospel in Aramaic "Dyn nishtiyq w'enayhy la. Tub kahana shaleh: etyat mshikha, bar d'mibraka?" Translation: "But He was silent and replied not. Again the high priest asked Him: Are You the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed?" - Mark 14:61. I will work on other passages......... |

It was only Matthew, out of all the New Testament books, that was written in Aramaic. All the other books of the new testament, including the other gospels, were written in Greek. So where did you get that Aramaic passage of Mark's gospel from? |

nobilis: There is an Aramaic manuscript for Mark's gospel. Some scholars believe that it is the original manuscript and that the Greek versions are just copies or translations. The Aramaic manuscript for Mark can be found in texts such as the Aramaic Peshitta and the Codex Syriacus and the Aramaic Curetonian gospels. This Aramaic passage is just my own reconstruction. I did not get it from any manuscript. |

lordnicklaus: I don't think any other gospel was originally written in Aramaic except Matthew's. Do your research properly. |

nobilis: Mark's gospel has more Aramaic wordings than Matthew. We have aramaic words like talitha koum, ephphatha A Syrian church believes that the Aramaic manuscripts which they possess are source manuscripts for Greek gospels. You can google "Aramaic Peshitta" to find out. |

lordnicklaus: Like I said, do your research properly. That Mark's gospel has more aramaic words than Matthew doesn't mean it was written in Aramaic. You're making reference to aramaic words amd sentences used by Jesus such as the ones u highlighted. Of course, those words are aramaic because Mark decided to use those words exactly the same way Jesus must have said them without bothering to translate them. Those are the words u say make Mark's gospel have more aramaic words than matthew. We are talking about facts, and you're talking about what a syrian church believes. Of course, the eastern orthodox church will say they have the original bible while the roman church will also say they have the original bible. If I come and tell you that the roman church believes that the bible they have was the original translation from the original bible, does that make it true? We are talking about facts. Not about what a church believes. Make ur researches about your Aramaic Peshitta and discover the earliest versions of that Peshitta came into existence in the 5th century. Was Mark's Gospel written in the 5th century? By the way, Mark's gospel was not even written until towards the end of the first century. It was not even written in Jerusalem but was written in or close to Alexandria. I don't wanna go further, abeg. Make your research properly. |

This is what I like to see in the religious section especially by people who profess to be Christians - a clear debate without insults and bile. Nobilis, lordnicklaus, many thanks. |
