kpineo:

how can PHB from 51M bid and exchanged ony 12M today now have a bid of less than 1M something is suspect here. am watching closely. Please fasten your seat belts i sense some temporary turbulence ahead. Someone wants to cause panic sell and then buy at a lower price. Nairalanders be watchful.

Thanks to Nairaland and my experience with NASCON am a lot smarted now. Someone asked me about BigTreat just yesterday, say the thing dey rise make e put money there. I advise him not to unless he will be happy to receive 1 years free bread supply in exchange for his funds, dah    grin grin

As for me and my house we are on board PHB without fear.

PS. Britsh Airways crash landed at Heathrow London today. Lets pray for journey mercies for all our friends and family oh!

Quite possible. Many profit takers would have withdrawn their bids after envisaging the 10% rise by today. Today's price will probably already exit their limit price. No one likes money loafing with stockbrokers

On the other hand, I don't expect any serious turbulence till next week where there is sufficient profit to take. We may stop seeing 5% daily rise but the 20%-25% will be reached by next week.

I never reach my cruising altitude. Please secure your safety belts.

What is wrong with Diamond Bank -- it cannot sustain a bull run if its life depended on it hen.

I am selling - I am sick and tired of it ojere

Profit taking is happening on A.G leventis - Grabdaloot

Its seems investors are reacting -vely to the UNIC result,

It doesn't look like Oceanic will see 25 in the nearest future oo.

Anyway make we wait and see.

@ Pumping what is UNIC's P.E at todays price of 4.18? I never update my spreadsheet with the recent results.

I suspect LawUnion wants to come to the market it has defied the law of gravity -- haba.

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by windywendy(f): 7:05pm On Jan 17, 2008
@all: Just a quick note -- from FCMB's prospectus, they should be listing the additional shares from the offer next week. So make your decisions.

You get whinch!!! shocked

That was my first thought exactly?? why someone go pressure you buy FIrst aluminium a CICO stock at 2.74, profit takers will swoon on it soon and it will expreince a dip. If you want to buy then - good not when it has gained for 6-8 trading days.

Unic's forward PE is 28.72.

I just press the ejector capsule from inside the Lawunion rocket today. Hopefully I go land for another fully gassed turbo jet engine. Did somebody say Aiico??

UNIC:

I think towards end of next week will be better to position for UNIC. The insurance stocks will lose momentum next week and I suspect Unic will join them despite the losses this week.

@Wanaj0, I'm just taking a second look at this MTN deal. The deal dey sweet oh, i'm seriously liking it! Going by last year's dividend alone, the dividend yield is close to 10% -- that's not bad at all. I think it's a SOLID SOLID long term buy. Considering the company's prospects, can you just imagine what the capital appreciation would be even in the next 1yr talkless of 3? Abi didn't they just get the 3G license in March 07? Plus there's going to be an exit mechanism, which I believe will be very liquid. What's your problem with the offer? abeg make we discuss before I commit. Thanks.

It is obvious that the Market Makers of NNSE are on this thread silent / non silent.

At this rate of people asking when to dump and when to buy, does it not mean everybody is buying and sumping at the same time.

Abeg put caution and be convinced yourself o.

Not sure the level of information you have but this is what I can piece together

Share offered at about $25/share to investors. The fund your broker is floating did not state the number of shares that your $10,000 is buying. They might have valued MTN @ $50/share. Will you still BUY at that price?

Talking about growth, just got a report today that GLO now has more subscribers than MTN thus showing that GLO is eating into MTN's market share.

Uptill 2006, there was a tax exemption. Actually MTN was getting tax credit. From 2007, they will start to pay tax thus eating into the profit and reducing the CAGR.

For me the major concern is that I am not sure that the broker floating the fund will be sincere in its dealing. They are basically offering you a balck box. No profit forecast. Nothing!!!!!!

That said, market sentiments should favour MTN. I will however hedge my risk. Will definitely manage my exposure. There is potential for capital appreciation but not really clear how YOu will benefit because you are not buying the shares and you do not know the basis of teh valuation.

$10,000 is equal to 1 unit. How many MTN shares are in that unit. No one knows!!!!!

This na double whahala. FOF2 don accuse me first yesterday and I explain to am. Abeg LEVENTIS no dey anywhere for my name angry grin. I had sold my earlier AGLEVENT but bought back today. I was wating for the RSI to drop below 60 and it had so I bought back today. Funny thing though is that I placed an order for 1 million units. The broker couldn't get but the stock still lost even though I did not put a price cap. This NSE sef. me I no understand am again

@wanaj0
i suspect you are talking about the afrinvest fund - i asked and was told about  400 MTN units (depends on the exchange rate on the date of implementation) for $10,000, which is approx $25/unit

Windywendy, pls can you upload your brokers prospectus - I'm interested in the future projections. afrinvest's had no earnings projections
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by grabdaloot(m): 7:44pm On Jan 17, 2008
@ yodi,
I'll tell you what is happening to Diamond. same thing that is happening to GTB it is called GDR na very bad thing be that. Ask anybody wey dey live for the west how many stocks dey gain above 15% in one week without something very concerete being behind it. Me I no dey mess with any stock wey dey listed for any foreign market
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by windywendy(f): 7:54pm On Jan 17, 2008
@Wanaj0, thanks. I'll be taking a third look smiley smiley. Won't really want to compare MTN to GLO though . . .

@aksance, sorry I was looking at the wrong thing. The numbers weren't projections. Just got word from my broker that the original PP memo from MTN didn't include projections.

@dollyp1cute: sorry, i don't have the MTN prospectus. I think the brokers have it and are not releasing it -- some nonsense about it being in hard copy like they don't have scanners. I'll be discussing with mine over the phone though.

I made my 25% off Diamond earlier this week from Dec purchase, and left, no point letting greed get in the way, and having to crash land o
plenty opportunity dey ooo, I'm so glad plenty people arent talking about the one company I'm eyeing, cant wait for money to come through next week!

@Prince, FCMB is falling, once the shares are listed price should fall, a good buy would be like N18-19

If you see wetin happen today! Nairaland strong oo. My broker failed to buy my stocks since monday, so I paid him a visit this morning and threatened to report his delays on Nairaland, infact I pulled out my laptop and started typing, and he got serious!

He started issuing orders about my purchase, infact the stocks were overbought. Some were bought twice grin grin

I have seen a way to harrass these people, just pull your Nairaland ID and everybody will behave.
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Desiderata: 8:35pm On Jan 17, 2008
Has either MTN or GLO projected their earning for next quarter? Does anyone know where I can get a prospectus for either company?
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 8:36pm On Jan 17, 2008
I bought Afribank today, but it will lose tommorow from the look of things, it closed on offer and high/low were all the same at minus 5% If it does I better average it by more buys on monday.

@all

how exactly can i learn to analyse stocks? so i dont have to wait for someone to post something good about a stock before i get in

I want to learn how to properly analyse a stock, to know how and when to enter?

do you think this is the right time to exit on diamond? or is there still a bull run pending that i can get a slice of more profit from?
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 8:40pm On Jan 17, 2008
MTN still dey do shakara, make them carry go. What goes up will one day come down. One day MTN will be begging investors to patronize them in this country, remember I told you so.

reading the whole thread would really help o grin but really its a mix of fundamentals, technical analysis and market culture/trend
fundamentals : PE, EPS values
tech analysis will show u whether its overbought or oversold, and when to get in
market cultures: rumour, news, announcements, like Fof2 says he gets positioned in a stock 0-3mths before the release of results.
so if you invest in a fundamentally sound stock at the right time, and pay attention to the market= BIG PROFITS!
with Diamond, price is going to come down, profit takers are starting to descend.
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by easimoni(m): 8:56pm On Jan 17, 2008
Speaking of overbought/oversold; Oceanic is soooooo oversold at the moment. 9 day RSI is ~ 11. Dunno if they've "finished paying for the PO sins" but the forward PE (~17) and low RSI show that this is a good stock and a good time to buy. I'm into UBA though, just thot I'd point out the Oceanic numbers.
