Now we know why all d buzz around transcorp shares. Some people get insider info.

The news in question here should rather be a bad news for Transcorp. So why teh rally in price? That they want to take over NITEL from them shouldn't be so good a news, or am I missing something here?

SCOA Nigeria Plc

SCOA which is a company listed on the Nigerian stock exchange in the conglomerate sector did not perform very well last year, this can be seen from the just released results as its turnover decreased by 49.8 percent from N3.7 billion in 2006 to N1.8 billion in 2007.Its profit before tax was also down by 195.5 percent as it decreased from N860 million in 2006 to N821 million in 2007. The company recorded a loss in its profit after tax as it dropped from N867 million in 2006 to N705 million in 2007 signifying 181.4 percent change. The company closed at N5.29 at the end of trading on the 5th of february 2008.

With this result, why are people still buying SCOA?

Wanaj0 already shared the koko with you. You must have mixed up the latest result from SCOA becauase it posted a big profit though you are right it was with much less turnover.

If SCOA can sustain the current earnings rate (not even growing PAT) it will still be the cheapest stock on the NSE at least for the rest of this year at it's current price. It currently has a trailing PE of around 7.5.

Wanaj0 made 2 solid points and as always he was able to isolate the risk factors. I agree absolutely.

1. Is this sustainable? I tried to figure this out also but there are no clues. This is a very sudden turnaround. So the element of risk is there. However, in the short term, very good money would have been made even if the recent profit is just a flash in the pan. In Naija there is always inside info and the rate at which the price has been moving before the results was made public suggest some folks believe there is a a genuine turn around.

2. Did PAT include extraordinary items? Well, I have 2 sources that will normally include extraordinary items in an result declared on the NSE. None was included for SCOA so I am fairly (not 100%) that this is not the case and I hope not o!!!

Anyway by the time any of these negatives surface, I should have moved on if I don't get any more solid news from the company.

I understand that FBN is on net bid, does this mean that the price will continue to rise?

I am preparing to exit, only need to know when to.

Pumping, Aktopgun, Wanajo, Fof2, others comment please.

Not necessarily, only likely. First you need to know the volume of the net bid and compare with the daily volumes.

Other things to consider.

1. Some of the bids may be withdrawn since FBN gained the full 5% yesterday. Even some of the bids that remain may have bid prices below the closing price from yesterday.

2. Other investors will increase the offer today to take advantage of the high closing price from yesterday.

With so many scenarios that can play out, it is better not to be greedy. Set your target and exit. I already exited but I have no regrets if the price keeps rising. I already bought something else although I still have FBN in my long term portfolio.

I suppose low nominal price and some renewed interest will do the magic. Otherwise, this result is a little below expectations. The company posted N148M in Q-2 so this is slightly short of the mark. The PAT growth rate of 35% is also just above average.
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by noshaking2(m): 12:00pm On Feb 12, 2008
Hmm! I can see that peeps have gone nuclear with the TAs from Nigerian Securities. Nice one! The bottom line is using these charts to pre-emptively figure out the likely future direction of share prices etc, and not retrospectively, if you get my drift!

Note that in order  to proactively position for a stock before any breakouts Cadbury; Vono; First Bank  lately, always look out for the diverging actions of say RSI & MACD indicators. The koko is the divergence, and not the convergence - price rising whilst the RSI/MACD indicators falling etc

For me, whenever I see 5% max unexpectedly on any stock with significantly high volume but smaller no. of deals than previous, then I know that something is cooking. Using the TAs would then help in confirming breakouts or otherwise.

Hope this helps

I thought it was intentional that they did not list some stocks. I was wrong about that.

They still have their 51% and the federal government is the one selling part of its holdings. That means Nitel would bve revived and Transcorp will still own a large part of it

Replied you via chat.

Good for FBN. My interest is on how it will impact UBA and Zenith as I don sell my own.

Well, this is definition of greed. If you plan is CICO on FBN, remember that Madam Ndi will not call to inform you of when the price will stop rising or even start falling sef  grin

Can you believe I made one silly mistake; I place an order for UTC and First Aluminium since 28th of January without a price limit. I have forgotten about it until yester night when I called my broker (to discuss something else) that she told me they were able to buy both stocks for me at 7.42 and 5.21 respectively. All I could say was “Mo gbe o!!!”

Do you think I can still CICO on these stocks with this price?

During our discussion she also told me that their firm Partnership Investment is going on PP very soon; I guess the recapitalization has started, so we should all expect more PP’s and IPO’s from all these investment companies.

@ Pumping, my brother I have seen your reply, but just as I opened the NSE site and saw live trading updates, I saw that FBN is still climbing. It chalked up around 2.61 today, with a whopping 13 billion naira worth of transactions, are they crazy?

Cant somebody tell me what the f**k is happening?

Transcorp would also sell I think 24% of their holding. So Transcorp & FG would be minority holders. Please remember that Nitel is just a part of Transcorp not the whole of it. Transcorp, I believe, still has serious management problems and I doubt if the recent rally in its share price is not due to PURE SPECULATION.

Also I doubt if any investor will pay as much as Transcorp paid for 51% of Nitel, so they may have to do a goodwill write-off on their Nitel investment. Not good news, i tell you.

Hmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,didnt see that part!
well anyway at least SOMETHING would be working for Transcorp at least

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by kpineo: 1:02pm On Feb 12, 2008
Don't think it is good news for Transcorp at all. NITEL was seen as the cash cow of the company, with them now selling about 20% of their current holding what is left for the company.
transcorp is an ostrich, it might run but can't fly. grin

Hi all,

Am sure every one have  noticed the slow response of the Cashcraft website these days, and it has relay deprived me of the granularity in  information they provide.  Having browed onto their web site, i noticed a security alert.  It seems they have just implemented SLL (https web security) hence the slow response of their site.

Not sure if any of their members are on this thread, but it will be adviseable for them to set up this security measures for their customers who are logging
in for personal information and just create an extranet segment for us on their external perimeter ( networt edge).  This way we would not be going through the filtering process that is bogging the site down.

Please if you work for cashcraft, this little advise would improve performance i do find your site relay valuable.
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by pumping777(m): 1:32pm On Feb 12, 2008
Yes, I've really missed cashcraft. I prefer their tabulation of daily prices. I hope the performance issue is fixed soon.

Well, that's a mistake that should NEVER be made. All orders must go with price limits or expiry dates!!!!!!!!! Sometimes, my orders are valid for only 24hrs!!!! When you are doing CICO, all your orders must expire same day because you need to adjust your plan based on current realities.

Made same mistake some years ago. Ordered for UNTL @ about 2.00 after an impressive result. Share was not available until when it was above 4.00. That was when I got my contract note.

Take heart. If you hit your exit point, vamoose!!!!

Unity Bank gave Stochastic and CCI buy signals on Friday.

Nascon also gave Stochastic and CCI buy signals on Friday.

I don't use TA yet sha.

Regarding Unity Bank, for those that are interested you can investigate further (I know Nascon is belated). The combination of this and the rumoured PO could be good for business.
