Let's be honest. Why are we turning it into her tribal thing. If she was not white and the husbands family are quiet people she might be able to pull it off but I would not advice my sister to go at this time. My cousins in Lagos are not sure at this point if they will go to the village for christmas. The fact that she is white makes her a moving target. How many of you saying okay would send your own mothers into a place that you know that she would have a higher risk of being kidnapped than the average person. I think she should try next christmas or many they might do something about this kidnapping thing and she can go for the ikeji festival next year. That is usually fun too. |

its a tribal issue when ppl who never remotely stepped foot in the east are commenting like they know the place |
Re: Is It Too Dangerous To Travel To The East? by Outstrip(f): 4:31am On Sep 15, 2009 |
Haba Platinumnk. Take it easy. LOL. Even if they have never been to the east they read the news and many of them have friends or people they work with that knows someone that knows someone who has been kidnapped in the East. Forget about the tribal issue now. There will be more threads here to iron those out. |

pres-elect:see how my people suffer at the hands of tribalists! now see what I bolded, do you see my reason ?? I understand about the news, but to generate the whole igbo nation as to what is above has got me fired up. . |
Re: Is It Too Dangerous To Travel To The East? by Outstrip(f): 4:49am On Sep 15, 2009 |
Hopefully the lady knows better. After all her husband is an igbo man. People like pres-elect you simply just have to ignore. I mean do you think anything you say can cure that level of ignorance. I did not even read what he wrote before you quoted it. More important things to dwell on that wondering why people's brain reason the way they do. |

Nigeria isn't even safe for most NIGERIANS come to think of it, let alone foreigners. Tread with caution anyway, I can't imagine hiring bodyguards while you're supposed to be on holiday. U might as well go on excursion to a correctional facility |

hi everyone thank you for you replies. Some of you have asked where i plan to go, well I will fly to port harcourt, travel to aba first and than go to usofia. I also wanted to go and see akwa, since i am founding a foundation to help and send kids to school, but it looks like i will have to postpone that all, it is really a pitty and i hope that the government will do something about it!!! At least I am planing to live in nigeria one day, pls dont think that i have started this thread so people can complain about how bad nigeria is, i couldnt do it. I love the country, the people, the food the music and everything about it, so no mather what people say about nigeria or nigerians,, i have my own opinion. I really just wanted to hear about other people's experiences to help me make up my mind. |

However I believe your Hubby should be able to advice appropriately regardless of what peeps say herein.Evidently,The I.G of Police Just sent extra 700 police men from Abuja to the state, now use your "tongue to count your teeth"! I dont like the way some people are generalising the risk to all parts of Nigeria. @ Poster, Kidnapping is very real in Anambra state, but you can still make your trip to any other part of Nigeria like Abuja. If you still want a feel of the East, then you can spend sometime in Enugu which is relatively clean, serene and safe, with all the palmwine you can take. However, if you are still sceptical about the trip, then you can postpone it till further notice.Afterall you are our wife and by the grace of God, you will have many more years to visit. Your genuine love for your husband's people is really worthy of emulation. |

platinumnk: The world is a global village my dear. If you must know, i must not be in nigeria to be abreast with what is happenning there. In case you care about the statistics i can mention cases like Uchelinko murdered at nnewi, TONIMASS kIdnapped at nneni, pokobros kidnapped at awka,Ogbuawa kidnapped at nnewi, pit edochie kidnapped at onitsha, mrs chukwuogor kidnapped at awka , and many more cases which i cannot begin to list here. These cases and many more happenned within the last four(5) months. Be sincere and call a spade a spade and stop petending as if all is well. You must also remember that we are talking about someones life here. |

Re: Is It Too Dangerous To Travel To The East? by Wolenice(m): 9:05am On Sep 15, 2009 |
My Sis. although I am not from the east, but with the terrible and horrible news of kidnapping (regarded as a very lucrative business this days) coming from there almost on daily basis, I would have prefered that you didn't make the notice of your coming public. You should have carefully planned it with your husband and sneaked in quietly (like Ribadu did) and go back same way after your stay. But now, you can be sure guys are already looking forward to your coming (not good guys in NL anyway). Anyway don't be scared. Advise is, pray hard before coming and lie low throughout you stay! |

With all the kidnapping news going on, I won't advice any of my family to go there & yes we might blend it cos we are black not to talk of someone that will stick out like a sore thumb |

Nigeria is not that bad, but I can't say of the East, but since your husband's uncle was kidnapped, you as a white must have your residence very close to a Police barracks or Army barracks. cheers |

Now I do understand while there are many people in Nigeria living another man's life. After reading most of the response, the only three conclusion that came to my mind are these:- 1. Most Nigerians think through their anus. 2. Most still think the way they do when they were 5years old. 3. I pity them. Concerning the poster, the only advice I will give you is "YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT" |
Re: Is It Too Dangerous To Travel To The East? by kevd2: 12:51pm On Sep 15, 2009 |
@ poster Take security issues very seriously and don't listen to those that cant accept the truth you are the only one with the most to loose. If anything happens to you i bet you that most people here would not even bother to commiserate with you talk more of helping. Better Play it safe than have regrets . |

@ Poster: I stay in Anambra State and what I can say is that I will never advise anybody I know to come home for Christamas!! Aside from the kidnappings, which is as real as you can ever imagine, the State is a dangerous place to be at this time. The bank robberies is getting outrageous and the number of casualties keep increasing everyday!! The worst of it that that they operate at all hours, even in broad daylight! The weapons they have are very sophisticated and the Police cannot even hope to fight them! You need to see the way the MOPOL people take cover when the shootings start. There is no week that goes by without one attack or two. When they go for the Bank Robberies, they kill anybody not fast enough to fall to the ground! As for the kdinappings, well, if you have anyting to offer, be sure they know about it. These guys work with bank account informations and even business transfers. They know when huge amount of money is deposited in you account and the next thing they do is to kindnap you, you wife, or your kids!! The kind of insecurity here is outrageous and be sure it'll only get worse. With the guber elections coming up in February, 2010, the state is now a war zone!! Even if you are not a direct target, you could get in the way. Personally, I dont go to the markets, banks or even to town. As soon as Xmas approaches, I'll just take a loooong leave from work and I wont come back till after the elections!! So my advise, dont come back!! At least wait till the elections are over because the crime here is indirectly tied to the upcoming elections!! |
