~Gooner~:

Yesterday afternoon, I tweeted that if I was still stuck in traffic by 7pm I’d get off the bus, get on a bike and race home in time for kick off. At 7pm I was ready to roll but the only problem was that I was in the middle of third mainland bridge without an empty bike in sight…By 7:45 I was closer home but it was already too late to think of getting on a bike in a lonely area so I decided to call Biolabee for an update on the starting line up.

“Diaby is playing Oh!” were the first words he muttered and then spoke in hope of a win. Two minutes later, I called him back and was stunned to hear we were a goal down and had just conceded a penalty. “Goal, they’ve scored! He shouted back! I just knew that Jovanovic guy had something to do with it.

Half an hour later I arrived home to the usual darkness (thankfully the generator had been fixed earlier in the day) and turned on the TV. I wasn’t too impressed with the exchanges I saw and kept wondering why we kept giving the ball away. Wenger looked livid and the players looked visibly shaken, I learnt it was Eduardo giving the ball away with a needless back flick that led to the first goal and an unfortunate Gallas incident resulted in a penalty…Flashback to Man Utd last season and I wondered how much longer I could take.

Enough of the story telling. The only way we could have gotten back into the game was to pull one back just before halftime. This we did thanks to some good work from Diaby freeing up Bendtner on the right to slot past the Standard keeper.

Giving credit to our hosts, they were keeping us under pressure and we seemed to lack creative intent in the final third. Each time we got the ball we always seemed to pass it out wide in anticipation of a cross then pass it back again. . . pointless stuff in my opinion.

It was interesting to see Rosicky on the right and Eduardo on the left with Bendtner in the middle. With Sagna being rested, I assumed it was to also good to allow Eboue (who was again rather wasteful) space to overlap and send crosses into the box.

A crucial block from Clichy was all that saved us from conceding a third early in the second half. I must say that in all fairness Mannone wasn’t really tested at all in the match and while the first goal was rather unfortunate, the second was a penalty which you know was a penalty. If Almunia is still out by the weekend, it will be interesting to see how he performs in a meaningful league game against Wigan at the weekend.

I won’t bore you with too many details about a match which ended with Vermaelen bundling home a Cesc Fabregas’ set piece after good work by Song to keep it in play even though he was miles offside and it looked as if he handled the ball and a deserved winner by Eduardo kneeing the ball off a Fabregas corner. It wasn’t our greatest performance ever, but it was one that showed great strength to comeback from going down so early in a game. The full match report is available at Arsenal.com

Early in the second half, Tomas Rosicky played a pin point 50 yard pass to Nicklas Bendtner which required a perfectly timed tackle from Mangala to prevent an equaliser. Although he was taken off after 70 minutes, it shows he still has great quality and only needs to improve on his match fitness to reach the great heights we know he is capable of attaining.

Just before we equalised, I noticed Wenger signal to Pat Rice that two subs were to be made. With the ball out of play, the referee seemed to signal for the sub to be made as Wilshere and Sagna were already on the touchline. For some reason, he changed his mind and asked for play to continue. We scored straight from the corner and Wenger decided to keep Eduardo on in hope of getting a winner. Eduardo scored a minute later. All I can say is that sometimes, you need to take a gamble at crunch time and yesterday, Arsene’s gamble paid off. He said;

“I wanted to put one more offensive player on and take Song off. When I saw we had a free kick I did not do it because I know Song can be dangerous on free kicks. Then after we scored, I did not make the substitution.”

Speaking after the game the boss was quick to highlight the importance of the win. He said;

“When you’re at a big club, you cannot afford to have too many defeats on the trot. “After being 2-0 down, this will strengthen belief within the group”

“We could not afford to concede a third goal but had to try to come back to 2-1 at least before half-time – which is what we did. In the second half, the game dropped a bit in physical intensity. When they got tired, we got some set-pieces and took advantage.”

Liege Coach was not so impressed. He said;

“We started very well, but were not strong enough mentally to continue the same way in the second half,” he said. “We sat back in midfield, so all the pressure was too much for us.

“Arsenal had good help from the referee at their second goal – two players were offside and there was also a handball. This was the moment when they got more motivation and we lost ours, but the biggest problem was we have to play better.”

The win moves Arsenal to the top of the group with Olympiakos only managing a 1-0 home win over AZ Alkmaar. Let’s consolidate!

In other news, US-Vietnamese Star Lee Nguyen is set to train with the Arsenal reserves for a month in continuation of the club’s partnership with Vietnam league team Hoang Ahn Gia Lai. A University of Portsmouth psychologist Dr Paul Morris has also provided a four-point guide to help referees spot a diving footballer. Sounds interesting…throw the book at Ronaldo!

Not surprising though is the fact that Citeh have accepted the charge of violent conduct brought against Emmanuel Adebayor…they’d be stupid not to!

We’ve got Wigan at the weekend and a preview would be in line tomorrow or Saturday morning before I fly to Port Harcourt for Mabel and Franklin’s wedding…I’m on the wedding train!

Till tomorrow…Victoria Concordia Crescit!

@Sauron
what do u take us for?
Primary school kids
Give us proof for your baseless accusations
How did u know Ade wanted to stay

Ade was forced to leave.
That was as clear as anything cos your board couldn't resist the temptation to pocket the 25 milla placed on him.

Is it from the interview he granted or you and his agents are pals or what a blogger wrote
Why would u believe Ade, who has been caught double speaking so many times?
The same Ade that your gaffer said was asking to join manure or the chavs after having signed for Citeh

There's no truth in this statement. . . . . .
It was when he knew his days were numbered at Arsenal his agent tried to flog him to Chelsea and Man Utd.
The agent was the rat flirting around not ADE!!!!  Ade wanted to stay. . . . .Wenger told him he had already agreed a fee with Citeh.
Kolo Toure has confirmed this also.

Abeg, sauron, save these prejudiced deductions for Cricket and rugby fans! This is turning into a huge joke.
Unless you think AW is mad,I don't see any reason why he would want to fail ab initio.
Djorou may have been injured before close of window, but I can bet you that AW did not know it will be a serious one that would last 7-8 months?
Or did he?

AW is mad so are the board members of Arsenal FC.
They are very happy to keep the cash as far as Wenger qualifies for the UCL every season.
When a player gets injured. . . . . .He gets scanned and in 24 hours, the doctors announce how long the player is done for.
Arsene Wenger knew Djourou was a goner but announcing this to the media woulda pressured the board to spend the money made on Ade/Toure.
So they kept the gist to themselves until the SFF announced it. By then, the transfer window was shut.

I expect you to answer the above, because it seems you work closely with Ivan Gazadis.
All the Swiss federation said was that he had a knee injury.
Point out to us where they said he will be out for 8 months! How?We have been on this before.

With the collapse of the housing market in the UK, Arsenal's debt is now worse than United's debt.
Those pretty flats at Highbury are not selling OR they are being under-priced.
Your debt/value ratio is 107%. . . . .Arsenal owe more money than they are WORTH!!!!!! Go to Forbes and confirm this.
Wenger and his goons need every penny to keep Arsenal afloat so Ade was forced out of Arsenal.
He woulda sold Cesc too but Barca weren't too serious about him.

I don't understand why you speak this way.
Do you still hear the boo boys booing Eboue?
When Bendtner was being booed, did he take up Mailian nationality then?
Are songs about Song not being sung at the Emirates?
Are Kanu, Lauren not described as arsenal Legends.
Has Kolo Toure ever been booed despite being outta form for almost 2 seasons?(damn, he was still given a rousing reception on Saturday)
The criticisms for players like Ade is for not trying enough and Saying RUBBISH.
When have you heard Cesc saying rubbish and criticising fans for booing him?
You should withdraw the statements highlighted

English Language seems to be your problem.
I did not say your classless fans don't boo/unboo players. . . . .I said the African players @ Arsenal suffer MORE criticism than others.
Did Cesc not say Arsenal need a dose of Viagra? He compared a big institution like Arsenal to a FLACCID penis.
Arsenal fans pretended like Cesc never mentioned it. . . . .If that was Ade or Eboue, the fans in Africa woulda burnt their houses.
Y'all GAYnners are a disgrace.

Sauron,

Ade was not forced to leave!

Ade wanted to leave and he has been drumming it into everybody's ear.

First it was 120k a week or he goes to Milan!

Again it was 'I wouldn't mind playing for Barca' and all those rubbish.

Because of his dissatisfaction with his wage at Arsenal he was not settled and which was probably the reason for his inconsistency.

No body would force him to stay. He wanted more money and he left.

Ade's wages was sorted immediately after 2007/8 season when he got a pay-rise in a new contract.
Does it make sense for him to ask for more within few months after penning a new contract? Why can't Arsenal fans reason like humans?
If you believe Ade left for a bigger payrise then there's no point arguing any further.

His pay was 'sorted' to 80k not what he wanted. Now he is earning 130k a week what does that tell you?

Ade issued a statement that he wanted to go because the fans do not want him. That was just a smokescreen. He felt he is a top scorer and that he is worth more than he is paid.
Behind all those statements was one thing, underlying greed. Abeg leave matter!

Seriously, Arsenal fans are the most spastic set of fans in the world.
Only a GAYnner would think a player got a new contract in January 2009 and he wants a pay-rise in Dec 2009.
Does it work that way? Ronaldo did not get a pay-rise after penning the contract he copped in April 2007 till he left Man Utd.
That is how it works.

Trying to blame Adebayor for your club's idiocy.
Arshavin has flirted with Barca. . . .so has Cesc(who actually said he would leave if Arsenal don't win anything) and many other players.

A pay rise does not come in one way. A transfer move to a higher pay is a pay rise.

Besides, Ronaldo secured several contract reviews within 2 years just to keep him away from his childhood interest. What stops Arsenal from reviewing his contract after just one year in order to keep him? May be only Man U can do that.

Ronaldo's last pay-rise was in 2007 despite becoming the best player in the planet in 2008.

Adebayor wanted to leave Arsenal from when he sscored 30 goals in one season. If not, why did he not make a statement on the official Arsenal website as Fabregas and RVP did this summer. Even if players are quoted out of context , they could make statements on the clubs offical website.

Adebayor never did make a statement to squash the rumours.

Good to see the boys win last night without Arshavin,Walcott,Nasri and RVP. Impressive.
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only. In Wenger We Trust! by agabaI23(m): 3:01pm On Sep 17, 2009
Sauron but it is true that he said that
. . . .Adebayor then took contradiction to new level. Having told the June 28th press conference, "I never cared about playing for money, my happiness is to play to enjoy myself," a day later he told a UK newspaper:

"I am being considered a worthy replacement for Henry while not deserving his salary. Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it's up to the directors to satisfy my demands or I'll leave."Having turned down a £24m offer from Barcelona and re-buffing all attention from AC Milan, Arsenal are adamant they don't want to sell their star striker. The biggest battle to keep Adebayor is not with the clubs perusing him, but with the player himself. The Togo front-man has reportedly requested a new club-record contract of £120k per week. Arsenal have reached breaking point with the striker and his departure seems inevitable.

http://www.soccerphile.com/soccerphile/premier-league/bigger-than-the-club.html

This was also carried by The sun and other frontline media outlets. Did they conspire to lie against him?

So please it was not a lie.

After the demand, Arsenal only managed 80K for him. He accepted it for the interim while waiting for a better opportunity to move as they did not satisfy his demand.

of course he would not ask for a pay rise openly but his body language will do the asking for him.
So I never said he was asking for another pay rise
I said
Because of his dissatisfaction with his wage at Arsenal he was not settled and which was probably the reason for his inconsistency.

What you quoted was a part of my argument which with other part led to the final statement. That part alone does not represent my thought process.

IN THE SUMMER OF 2008,
Ade granted two interviews about 30 minutes/1 hour apart in which one minute, he was prophesying his undying love for Arsenal
and how all those barca/milan rumours were fabrication of the Press.

Since AW refused to budge on his 30/35m asking fee, he had to stay because he was still contracted to the club.
However, he was rewarded with a hefty pay increase to around 80/90(though he told the guy who attacked him in lagos it was 110k)
Later in the new season, he told everyone that his Phone was switched off in the summer grin grin
around March, he granted an interview talking about Milan being a big club and the Beyonce link shocked shocked
it's on record that he never denied the story, becos he still made reference to it in subsequent interviews
The last straw after a rather languid season, was when he went on BBC and attacked the fans, saying they were the reason for his poor performance
I have never heard any player in my life attack his own fans before!
Ade may be a good player, but he lacks class!
He talks far too much and has a highly exaggerated opinion of himself.
He's not the first African to play for Arsenal, neither will he be the last.
he needs to employ a P.A to help him out.
Fans are no fools, they will get behind u when you are doing well, but when u feel bigger than the club paying your wages, don't try enough or insult them, you will see what they are made of.

The 28-year-old is reported as stating that he would be delighted if the opportunity to join Primera Division giants Barcelona was to come along.

"If I have the chance to play for Barcelona, I'd be really happy," British tabloid The Sun quotes Arshavin as saying.

"I am happy playing for this club and to be honest I am happy AC Milan, one of the legendary clubs in the world, were looking at me," he told ESPNsoccernet Press Pass's Alison Bender.

"For me that must be something special. It is like a boy being told Beyonce is looking for them.
"They told me Milan were looking for me. I am quite happy with that but the most important thing is playing for Arsenal. I am very happy here so there is no reason for me moving.

Tell me how that is different from what Arshavin said.

"The absence of titles at Arsenal is what angers me the most. Cristiano Ronaldo said he's leaving Manchester United because he had nothing else to win. For me right now it is the exact opposite, seeing the impotence," the playmaker and club captain said.
