Alot of times some may react in that way, if your appearance as an African doesn't fit the "stereotype" which is heavily the case with Igbo's as I've come to learn. In appearance they blend extremely well with that of us black-Americans, and I'm sure you are most likely a classic case of this situation.

So when they learn that you are African, you throw them off guard a bit, and then comes the stupid questions.  You must be a young gal, because this is most common amongst our young.
