mr.official:i get plenty of time o. when u have been banned plenty times, getting banned again will not make any difference. I suspect it is these sets of people that seun finds veery hard to control. Anyways, long live nairaland jor. shame to all the bad people. I subscribe to changing back to our local dialect, so instead of mudafoka, i can use iyalaya-e! |

Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by Nobody: 5:59pm On Dec 08, 2009 |
Seun, why do u need google that much. you let a company making it's money in another country dictate what you do with your site? getting off google wont kill nairaland cos it's our very own google |

Well This is supposed to be a good news. Google taking special interest means they are kind of jealous. Google have a way of condemning something before buying it. I wont disclose any source, Maybe they wanna buy nairaland which is a good news too. There are many advertising agents that pays as much as google too. As far as i can tell, those words they blacklisted started appearing here when the forum started. Why the sudden interest after many years? I believe they indexed thousands of the same pages they want removed now , Seun, I can only tell you not to dance to their tunes, atleast not up to a hundred percent. While at it, Think about alternatives, Including individual ads. We tend to look too long on closed doors that we forget to look for the open ones, |

A very pleasant and welcome development. Atleast, we would have some sanity in language use |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by joker2k: 8:49pm On Dec 08, 2009 |
ozalogbo:As if it is ever that easy. There are gazillion websites on the web that use languages such as vagin.a which is a normal english word Is the problem that some words are considered insultive like puss.y or words like vagin.a are no longer acceptable or rather that google is just tryin to make NL look worthless so they can buy it for =N=5,000 naira? or there is something i am missing? |

Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by mrofficial(m): 9:38am On Dec 09, 2009 |
seun_: lol, It's like you're used to the sexuality board. I know at the end seun will come here to close this thread. |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by mrofficial(m): 9:55am On Dec 09, 2009 |
If he likes, install every every to censor, i still will type in anoda way, and i bet even Google will understand. mchewww, He'll come to ban you, because you're his opposite. I still access the sexuality board. At first you need to update your profile. How old are you? under 18? no mind me oo, joking. |

Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by Krayola(m): 3:18pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
After reading the reasons I can understand the censorship. But i think it has been over-done. Insanely overdone. We come here to have fun, and too much censorship isn't goin to help that very much. Over time, in my opinion, there will be negative consequences. I could be wrong tho, But I gott admit I'm kinda put off by the whole thing. If there was an alternative forum I might have just headed there out of spite Seems this is the future of NL though. NL is slowly losing its soul

And in the end my forum might just be Nairaland rival. |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by maedan(f): 6:17pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
I don't know why a large forum like Nairaland has to take orders from anybody. I mean WTF. People have the right to free speech, and yes, even the right to be offensive. I don't condone filthy talk but at least let's not turn here into a freaking circus. It'll just be like turning yourself into a laughing stock. I googled an issue and that's how I first got on NL, and I've been here ever since. Google has played its part in the growth of NL, but guess what, what's a search engine without a place to find what you're seeking?? NL touches on so many issues, both local and international. Let's not water it all down now, for the sake of prospective members. |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by Nobody: 6:21pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
google has ads here . . . as long as they pay the bills to keep this site running, they have a right to insist on word filters. I agree. |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by maedan(f): 6:23pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
If you can agree to corporate gagging, then good luck to you. I guess we all know where our bread is buttered, so let google's will be done . |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by maedan(f): 6:35pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
It's attention-seekers like these that should be banned, not even incorrect speech. |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by maedan(f): 6:40pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
lol. Even NL's google-famous spell check didn't fault me, so what in the world have you got to say? My friend zip it because the grammar is quite correct. Go and look in the dictionary bc I won't bother to explain anything to the likes of you . |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by maedan(f): 6:47pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
Out of context?? My brother, are we not talking about using proper and decent language? So I was referring to improper, indecent and incorrect language, and that there is no need to ban it. Instead they should monitor troublemakers who incite others into quarrelling and turning to insult themselves with terms that could make the pple at google blush . |
Re: New Era Of Word Censorship On Nairaland by maedan(f): 6:58pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
Cool. But honestly it's not only when pple fight that they use bad language. Some use it just for fun in the sexuality and romance sections. I'll suggest that now that we have been duly informed and warned, we will learn our lesson and curb our vulgar excesses . But they should stop all these womanliness and sympathetic alien B.S. abegi . |
