Airport Police Command Commences Investigation On Child Theft Suspects by ichommy(m): 12:07pm On Jan 06, 2010
The Airport Police Command, at the weekend, said it had commenced investigation to unravel circumstances surrounding the alleged child theft aboard an Owerri-Lagos flight on December 31, last year.

The Nigerian Tribune’s investigation revealed that the arrested mother and her daughter (names withheld) were nabbed by the police for allegedly attempting to steal a five-month-old baby boy aboard a Chanchangi flight that departed Owerri, Imo State, to the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on the fateful day.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airport Police Command, Mr. Danazumi Doma, told newsmen at the airport in a telephone conversation that the two suspects were still being detained at the domestic police station.

Doma said that the suspects’ continued detention and investigation were part of efforts by the police to conclude their investigation on the matter.

He further explained that the command had commenced full investigation to unravel the syndicate behind the alleged child theft.

“The police are set to arrest the alleged biological mother of the five-month-old baby. The two women are still under the custody of the police,” he said.

The CP said that because of the on-going investigation, disclosing more information on the matter to the press could stall the investigations.
