The Yorubas have a saying "A fi ete sile a npa lapalapa". Meaning we have left leprosy and are trying to cure ring worm. Two problems are now on ground. Ghadafi 'insulted' our sensibilities by telling us we have a problem and here's my advice. The other problem is we have a problem that needs no shying away from. What do we do? We fight Ghadaffi or solve our problems? Fellow Nigerians, I am not sure the set of 'old' politicians with poverty mentality we have now can take us out of the woods. If we continue this recycling of thieves and visionless leaders, I'm afraid Nigeria is edging closer to disintegration as America has predicted. Our internal problems won't just go away, they cannot be wished away. We need to tackle them headlong by destroying some established structures and rebuilding new structures from the scratch. Poverty won't go away - the rich and powerful especially in the north will use religion as an 'opium of the poor'. They will use it to delude their people perpetually resulting in the kind of commotion we have in Plateau State which was otherwise a peaceful State until there was a clash of religions arising from land issues. I personally would demolish the office of traditional rulers doubling as religious leaders, I would seek to abolish state boundaries, I would seek to move closer to the system in the UK where the Local Councils are closer to the people. The present system of governance is too expensive for us, that is why recurrent expenditure is usually above 70% of budget. From a constituency, you have a senator, a house or Rep member, a state legislator, a local government chairman, a councillor yet we see nothing on ground. What do we have, the Federal and State governments give money to individuals for projects in their communities. What do they do with the money? Buy us rams at Salah and Christmas and 'chop' the rest?

Dr Know:

Those calling for splitting Nigeria should learn from history:
Splitting India in 1947 caused a breakdown of law and order in which at least 200,000 people died. Some estimates say one million people were killed.

About 12 million people were left homeless and thousands were despoiled.

An attempt by the Igbo people of south-eastern Nigeria to secede in 1967 sparked a war which left more than one million people dead.

and you must stop learning selectively from history. kosovo just declared independence and nothing has happened

peope are already dying from the status squo so why the noise.

@johnny
we know,  we all have seen the pictures and heard d news,  u don't have to post it everywhere again. isn't it stale to start posting pictures over and over again,  it's more inhuman for you to keep posting these shots again,  just attack the issues orally and stop refreshing it,

no offense intended

It's easier for you to seat behind your laptop and be typing rubbish. Can you imagine if the woman in that picture is your wife and the baby is your child? Then u would not be pouring out trash!
Re: Nigeria Recalls Ambassador From Libya Over Gaddafi’s Statement by sweet9ja: 4:10pm On Mar 19, 2010
The critics of Col Qaddafi are just not sincere at all. Where were you when the US predicted the breakup of Nigeria, complete with a date, what did you do? This time we got a good opinion on how to deal with the problem, again we are behaving as if everything is fine. Those who think this is an internal issue are either, foolish, ignorant or don't understand the working of international relation. Take for instance, there is another civil war in Nigeria, million of Nigerians will seek refuge in other countries including Lybia, thereby overwhelming the governments and the people of those countries. This is one such scenarios that the Lybian leader has foreseen and is trying to avoid. In as much as I hate to, I do agree with the Lybian colonel and strongly disapprove of the action taken by the federal government on this issue.  angry angry angry

So if all the Nigerians in Libya are deported then u will use ur Bluetooth connection to get them jobs, housing etc including the ambassador? Abi

You decide what is better. Is it better to keep hundreds of different ideologies together and have innocent children and babies slaughtered or is it better to split them up and have lives saved. Once again, you decide.
Re: Nigeria Recalls Ambassador From Libya Over Gaddafi’s Statement by Tadeus(m): 10:36pm On Mar 19, 2010
If senate president trully believe that Ghadafi have psychological problem, please Nigerians advise Mark to ignore and stop debating on Ghadafi statement.

Ghadafi have nothing good to offers us, why do we even pay attention to him, we are encouragin him. Silent is the best answer to a fool like Ghadafi

ooooooooooo, how i wish OBJ is still rulling, I love OBJ because of something like this, ask Ghadaf what OBJ did to him last time he visited Nigeria.

LEt us think right Nigerians, we can survive all these calamities, lets stop killin each others, we are one. what will you gain from taking a life of your brother?

We know we dont have sound leaders, accepted, but we can still make it if we are determine and work with one spirit, show each others love.

Those people that are encouraging you to killin you brothers because of political reasons or religious purpose, they dont like you if you can think about it well. there are many ways to convince someone to join your religious group or to do your political wish than taking their lives and allowing people to condem what you are protecting.

Nigerians time to come out with right concept and think positive.

STOP VIOLENCE TODAY AND LET PEACE REIGN IN OUR COUNTRY NIGERIA

To all those calling for Nigeria to split-up, how exactly in practical terms, are we going to achieve this? If u've lived in d different parts of the country and know the full extent of our ethnic and religious distribution, u'll discover it's not as clear cut as u think. E.g Which part of the divide would the Hausa-Fulani christians (yes, we do av em) fall? Wot about the muslims in the South? Maybe they'd like to move north wards. Let's not even start with the middle belt, the Igalas, Ebiras, Nupes (muslims and christians),  May God give us direction

People will not be forced to choose sides

There will be a Moderate Republic and an Islamic Republic.

Those who want to live by Sharia just like Taliban Afghanistan know where to go.

Those who want peace, will move over the Berom Wall but must live in peace or consigned to jail for violence.

India splitted, yet she's got the 3rd largest amount of muslims in the world, please note: im against splitting, im just commenting on the further up above comment
Re: Nigeria Recalls Ambassador From Libya Over Gaddafi’s Statement by OYBMEND: 1:16am On Mar 20, 2010
Yes there is quite a fair amount of Muslims in todays India

so it was the very violent amongst them who made up Pakistan hence why it is an Al-Qaeda preferred destination

so the extremists amongst us will move up, while others can join us.
Re: Nigeria Recalls Ambassador From Libya Over Gaddafi’s Statement by BOMANY: 1:53am On Mar 20, 2010
When I read Gaddafi's statement, I laughed. I consider all his statements as JOKES, because of his complete nonsense. Do you know what ARABS used to call him in all Arab countries, THE MAD MAN.

Any one visited or knows little about Libya would know what I am talking about.

Gaddafi changed the name of his country to the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya

He changed the Libyan flag two times to the recent one, Libya has no formal constitution, there is no government but what he called The General People's Congress (GPC) which is both an executive and legislative body. Political parties are illegal in Libya.

Gaddafi gave new names to the months; January became Fire, February: Light, March: Spring, April: Bird, May: Water, June: Summer, July: Nasser, August: Hannibal, September: Conqueror, October: Dates, November: Plowing and December: Canon

SO AFTER ALL OF THIS, IS THERE ANY ONE CAN TAKE HIS STATEMENETS SERIOUSLY
Re: Nigeria Recalls Ambassador From Libya Over Gaddafi’s Statement by Saruman: 1:57am On Mar 20, 2010
Nigerians and their self-inflicted Self-denialism.
Everybody is shouting Ghaddafi down and has anybody shouted loud enough now to bring Yar'dua out from wherever he is hiding?
There is a silent war going on in Nigeria and by the time it gets loud enough, Ghaddafi might have the last laugh.
The search for a better nation starts from within.
We could as well turn ourselves to the United Kingdom of Nigeria (UKN; Northern Nigeria, Middle Belt, South East and South West) and make an effort at typifying the UK method with Wales, England and Scotland.
The present Federal system SUCKS!

Why do we nigerians hate and fear the truth so much ? Gadafi just said the truth if this experiment called nigeria is not working then lets lets divide it, and let there be peace. lets stop pretending that all is well when then is fire on the mountain. i think the real mad man here is lord lugard who almagamated northern and southern nigeria.

I am not advocating for the UK system; I am only suggesting it. The real solution to the "Nigerian Problem" lies with Nigerians and if we find the USSR option to hard to follow, the UK system might be a possible option. Sooner or later, the national entities will define where they really belong and the war has started already and can only get "bitter" with the trend of developments now.Thats my take!
