princekevo: Brother, thanks for your efforts in locating the particular Section of the Act relating to this 'Impersonation' of a thing which Ikengawo and the likes seems to have a credible argument for. Things have finally come to a head, now. It is silly to assume you know sometime when you don't. Ikengawo's lack of knowledge or ignorance has not only misinformed the public on here, but also led to dis-franchisement of our rights - the right of citizens to seek their rights, sue the Nigerian Police and the other Armed Forces over situations as this. Nigerian Police is notorious for their brutal and autocratic use of arbitrary powers to subdue citizens. It's time they are rooted out of their tracks. Now, we have the 'Act' looking at us, can any of the Armed Forces personnel point to the particular Section of the law that was breached by the guys in question? Section 97. said, A person subject to service law under this Act who, with intent to defraud any other person, falsely represents himself to be some other person, living or dead, is guilty of impersonation and liable, on conviction by a court-martial— Right let's analyse this a bit. To start with, the guys in question are not military men and should not be tried in Military Court - they are civilians thus, our High Courts/Supreme Court could see to that assuming they'd committed a crime, not the military. Also, they'd not committed any offence that endangered our National Security so, how could this warrant a Court Marshall. Secondly from the sentence,'with intent to defraud any other person, falsely represents himself to be some other person, living or dead,' one would assume, the person to be impersonated has to be 'living or dead' and the Nigerian Armed Forces are not a 'Living Being' let alone a 'Dead' person, are they And if they are, believe me, our country has issues and our National Security is in big trouble. Thirdly, there must be an 'intent to defraud'. Where's the 'Intent', when the impersonator has to engage a person with an intent to defraud him/her. We were told the guys were simply wearing casual T-shirts embossed with the word 'Police' and that was their crime, wasn't it? Everyone knows, these T-shirts are seen, sold and worn by civilians all over the world, except Nigeria, how timid? When arrested, they were not carrying any ammunitions, nor were they wearing masks or balaclava to disguise themselves as to show intent so tell us, where's the intent to defraud? It's obvious, there's something wrong with the Nigerian Armed Forces, don't you reckon? Also in singular form, the law referred to the representation of just 'one person' however, our Armed Forces comprised of millions of living beings (plural) and not one person therefore, can someone show us how the 4 Armed Forces with millions of employees had just metamorphosed to just 'one living or dead person' - again, they fell the law and thus, violated our rights therefore, these guys, have every right and all the evidence to seek compensation from the Nigerian Police for violating their rights. If money is an issue, (which it can be), they should club together and get a good lawyer to take the Police on, on their behalves, no matter how long. In addition, they should set up a 'Charity' (NGO etc) to assist them in raising funds, securing sponsorship for the Cause and help in fighting the violation of Human Rights in Nigerian. Sure, everyone who understands the evil ways of the Nigerian Police will support this Charity including those in Diaspora. Thus, the Nigerian Police should be made to pay - that way the rest of them would know the boundaries they must not cross and learn to respect citizens, too. |

Their are people who drive around here in Naija with Texas plate numbers for years & are unreachable get ma drift? |

Jakumo Gidson12, the details of your experience were frightening to read, but sadly are not surprising to learn about, given the climate of semi-anarchy that prevails on the streets of Nigeria, one of the most crime-infested countries in Africa. Anyone who has lived in Europe or North America will have grown used to the sight of civilians dressed in assorted items of military camouflage uniform, either when going hunting, for those living in the countryside, or as a fashion statement, among city dwellers. Similarly, Tshirts worn in the West freely bear slogans ranging from the obscene to the political, so an inscription bearing the word "Police" would raise few eyebrows. That freedom of expression and clothing choice does not and can not translate into the Nigerian context, where armed robberies by "Men in Military Uniform" are frequent enough to be called an epidemic. In short, Lesson 1 from Survival 101 on Nigeria's mean streets dictates that civilians REMOVE any inscription or article of attire from their person that could REMOTELY be interpreted as having military or law enforcement significance. That really is all that should be said about this matter |

Ikengawo: Do you know the meaning of the term "illegal" or are you just trying to be annoying? It is not illegal to wear "those shirts" in Nigeria, however, because the Nigerian Police Force are a bunch of illiterate zombified lunatics, they'll probably murder you for wearing "those shirts". |

with the level of poverty amongst our lawyers in Naija today, one would expect a young dynamic one to delve specifically into the area of human right abuses by law enforcement officers. i promise u, millions will be made in weeks because peoples rights are abused by the NPF on a minuitely basis all around Naija. |
