Nigeria isnt that bad - beside the killing and kidnapping but that shiot happens in all developing countries.
Of course you will have alot of poor people and small elite like every country.

Nigeria is far more ahead than anyother african country aside- from SA, and maybe Ghana.
Out of 53 countries in Africa Nigeria is number 2 lol

When I meet people from Ethiopia, Somalia Sierre leone, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Gambia,Even India, China etc (other crazy 3rd world countries) -I tanx God im from Nigeria. those countries no even get Oil and are still 1 million times worse than Nigeria.
You have a point there. But then again Nigeria should not use countries like Ghana and Sierra Leone as a yardstick.
The comparison should be with the likes of India, Brazil and China.

You need to include things like nothing, till thy kingdom come, lie lie, when chickens grow teeth, never, for where, etc to your options.

I can only return to nigeria, when Nigerian girls stop been stingy with their kitty, western world is moving because ladies are open and do not pretend, here a lady can see you on the train or bus and give you sign that she needs you, same day bothof you will enjoy intimately, but naija girls want you to go after them for 1 years before giving making love to them, which is why they are lacking behind from the moving generation of the western ladies grin grin grin grin

Is this the only thing you can think with your "Echidim-ic" head. shocked shocked HIV is real o bros.

I love Nigeria,  she is my home and she has taught me most of my survival skills that have made me a sucess abroad. But thats about all Nigeria can teach any body how to survive. Skills to survive political instability (when I see republicans and democrats cutting corners to get a bill passed, I just laugh) Skills to survive military or despotic rule (when obama starts to lay down the law, and american scream socialism, I just laugh and think to my self "If you all knew a certain General Abacha then youll appreciate your president" Skills to survive failing infastructure e.g no light bad roads, my house is in a poor neighbourhood but I pay $925 for rent so it is huge like a palace with a pool in the back. if I was to live in the city, such a house will run me $8000 per month. Skills to survive ethnic violence, when I hear a white man call a black man Nigger, and the black man start to fret like it is the end of the world, I just laugh, it just a name, in my coutry nigerian they will cut of your balls and feed it you, while burning down your entire market and village. Skill to survive high crime and armed robbery, like i said i live in the hood there is always gang shooting actually last year some 18year old kid got shot in front of my house I had to call 911 for him. But nigeria has taught me not to flash your possesions, so I DONT. I dont walk with a cell phone, I dont drive arand areas im not familiar with, and im alway packing my desert eagle. Which I randomly fire into the air as a deterent to would be criminals.  Skill to survive with the bearest minimum, the other month i was down and couldnt afford to pay my energy bill, the company came and shut of my gas and electricity  hoping to force me to pay. I just went out and bought some cheap solar panels for my radio, and stopped buying food that needed refridged. After two months the company came and offered me a deal to settle. I told them know i actually enjoyed it without electricity it reminded me of back home. mysteriously after a week later my power and gas was restored. I can take bus to any location while my friends worry about fixing car or buying car. All the money I save i send it back to my family and freinds in Naija.

I love my county no doubt but in order to survive in Nigeria you need to keep developing your survival skills, One minute is was fraud the next minute it be came kidnapping and now Piracy in our river. My guy! I to old to keep staying in survival school. Id rather take the skills thay Nija has taught me and put it to use somewere else. I want to start living life and not keep being in survival school.

WELL IN 6YRS I WENT TO NAIJA LAST YEAR AND I WAS IMPRESSED THAT I WENT 3 TIMES AND I DECIDED TO MOVE BACK FINALLY . AS I SPEAK JST GOT BACK FROM 1 MONTH IN LAGOS AND IN NEXT 4/5MONTHS I WILL BE DERE FINALLY. NO WHERE LIKE HOME. EVEN AS THE ROADS ARE BAD, TRAFFIC IS BAD, NO LIGHT, FEAR OF ARMED ROBBERY, LACK OF EMPLOYMENT I STILL BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING TO DO AND STILL HAVE TIME FOR YOURSELF AND WORK ON IDEAS UNLIKE DIASPORA WHERE ITS EITHER 9/5 OR 6/6 WORKING STUPID HOURS AND DOING ALL SORTS OF DEGRADING JOB ALL BECOS WE WANT TO MAKE A LIVING. MOST PEOPLE DONT WANTR TO GO BACK BECOS ITS EITHER THEY HAVE NOTHING TO GO BACK TO OR HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR THEIR DONKEY YEARS OF LIVING ABROAD. AS FOR ME I CAME ABROAD TO STUDY AND GET GOOD WORK EXPERIENCE AND BY JULY 16 MY AIM WILL HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED SO NOTHING HOLDING ME DOWN HERE.

A very lucrative job with one of the big oil companies.

Or if i hit the lottery jackpot here grin

Then the robberies, bad roads, chaos, no health care, no light and abject poverty around will
be easier to deal with.
But i will be coming back here for holidays for some assured peace of mind.
Re: What Would Encourage You To Return To Nigeria? by perturbed(m): 5:21pm On Apr 06, 2010
It seems we are missing out something here! , We cannot talk about Nigeria and leave out OIL; that's what gives Nigeria relevance in the World today. I believe what we should address is the management of the proceeds from this oil. This revenue is more than enough to fix the problems in Nigeria such that foreigners will lobby to come and live in Nigeria not to mention Nigerians abroad. we should not also forget that Nigeria is so endowed and blessed with both human and mineral resources.

However, the untapped resources can take us there if only we (Nigerians) can all sincerely work together towards the same goal of rebuilding this great Nation. I can emphatically say that Nigeria is the most blessed country in the world but some set of people in government are hindering the progress by their egocentric and malicious attitudes. This is very unfortunate that this same people have been in power from day one to the extent that they have affected some other good people with good intentions (the disease is spreading fast). It is my prayer that God will turn things around in Nigeria for the good of Nigerians.

God bless Nigeria.

You dont mean it - why should the thing that drove them out be the same thing that will drive them back? For me, I will not go back home until I can be assured of Macdonalds burger, KFC chicken, TESCO shopping, Train from Lagos to Akure, and even un interrupted internet connection for London based yahoo yahoo boys.

As if these things were there when we all were born and grew up in the same Nigeria - suddenly - burger eaten is a reason for Nigerians to decide to stay away abroad or come back home.

Nigeria is a land of opportunity, know what you are doing and tap into the opportunites, but be blind and wait till all the land is flowing with gold and platinum and you will just wait forever and serve the white man forever.

Good Health Service

As in compared to Saudi Arabia, America or where?

Low Crime

Low as in? Low is relative- how come Americans have not all vacated their country due to the high rate of crime there or even in South Africa?

Good Roads

Ok - until all roads are good before you decide to come back home?

Full Time Electricity
Full time? My father is over 80, he has never been outside Nigeria and neither does he wish to do so - he is a happy man, he doesnt wait for this before he made something out of his life in Nigeria.

Full Time Running Water

Sho?

Full Time Telephony

Oh yea? As in even a new born baby having a GSM phone?

Good Education System

So why is Britain recruiting Naija students then under the HSMP programme? If our education system is that bad, how come Britain has loads of Nigerian trained professionals in her system?

Nigerians who retunr home or who want to return home benefit ore from the country and not the country benefiting from their return - this is very important to note, beside- the less people in Nigeria- the less the problem, so let people stay put where they enjoy all they can.

MrPrsdent:

another paranoid nationalist.Obviously, you are talking tipper-load of bullshit and you know it.OR maybe not

Im no nationalist- just realistic and Nigeria is far better than MANY african countries. Just because youre miserable doesnt mean everyone else is clown.

tensor777:

You have a point there. But then again Nigeria should not use countries like Ghana and Sierra Leone as a yardstick.
The comparison should be with the likes of India, Brazil and China.

India is not a good country- a country where untouchables are predestined to be the Lower class of society without any changes,
China that has the worst human rights offenses, socialism etc . . .
Brazil that has extrajudicial killings (like naija) and no black person has become presido despite the fact 50-60% of the populace has black heritage.

Ill stick to naija, Every country has issue so Nigerias problems are all over the world.

@ all others- Oil is nothing!, Its the simple fact we dont have electricity to boost industry( for jobs and security), so of course Oil will be the second most important. When militants attack pipelines and lessen Crude Oil flow, then theres no FEUL FOR GENERATORS- to get business flowing. So as of Right now aside from the electricty(we dont have) Crude is the second most important thing in naija.

Naija isnt difficult and the problems are fairly simple but they are scuttled by illiterates and greedy people.

@C1LONDON
Im a yoruba who minds his buisness so I will NEVER do any business past the places that my people are SW, I have no business with anything in the SS or SE - those places are like a disease nothing positive can comeout of doing business there. So when I talk about heavy or light Crude & Gas- Im talking about Ondo Ogun and Lagos.
Re: What Would Encourage You To Return To Nigeria? by Wallie(m): 5:59pm On Apr 06, 2010
For me, by far, the greatest threat is security. I remember in 2000 when I went home, I had a late flight into Lagos and it was past midnight before I picked up my luggage. My parents made us stay at the airport car-park until almost 7am because of armed robbers that follow people coming from the airport. Also, the cars except for the run-down one had to be home and parked before 7PM. What kind of life would one be living if you worked hard for your money but can’t enjoy it?

Next in line will be electricity. Having stable and predictable electricity will bring the manufacturing sector out of coma which will in-turn provide employment for a lot of youths.

Lastly will be healthcare. This is not as important in the interim because one can always travel abroad.

All we need is a ready-government even though they don't ve brain, which i think this retarded old fools dont have.once they are ready to seek and follow advice of more sensible pple, our problem is half solved.a good example of a ready government can b seen in the achievment of the present vc of unilorin and the executive governor of lagos state.
Re: What Would Encourage You To Return To Nigeria? by beknown(m): 6:12pm On Apr 06, 2010
The single option that will change Nigeria is Electricity.

If Nigeria has full time electricity, many people abroad will return home for good. If many Nigerians abroad return home for good, they will create jobs through their private businesses. Personally, I will not seek government job in Nigeria unless the government want to consult me to help them.

If there is electricity, many people will be employed and many new businesses will start. Therefore, automatically, there will be low crime and better security. People will be able to have good social life for themselves too.

Many Nigerians abroad are qualified teachers and professionals. They can setup their own affordable private schools for everybody. Education will be better.

Many Nigerians abroad are qualified medical and health professionals. They can setup good affordable private hospitals with excellent facilities. Some of them may even seek employment in government hospitals in Nigeria, that will be huge benefit for Nigeria.

In fact, if there is full time electricity in Nigeria, many problems will be solved automatically.

No reliable business can exist and expand using generators. I cannot imagine businesses in London, New York and Paris without full time electricity - Disaster!

This Ikengawo guy or whatever his name is is an IKE with a capital letter I. Who told you we all grew up with no electricity and who told you that all of us were roughing it when we lived in Nigeria. Please you do not know the facts so please be quiet. The lack of dependable power in Nigeria is our main issue. With constant power more people will invest in manufacturing and that in turn will create millions of jobs. So we do not just need electricity to cool the air and cool our drinks. It is even a matter of life and death for a lot of people

@Outstrip,
I totally support your thinking there. A large manufacturing facility requires full time electricity. Good hospitals need full time electricity. Street lights need full time electricity.
Re: What Would Encourage You To Return To Nigeria? by Nobody: 6:37pm On Apr 06, 2010
Well I am sure it was not factors like the lack of 24-hour electricity and other utilities that made most people here leave the country. Perhaps that is what they enjoy now and are unwilling to give up.
I don't really see these as issues if there are opportunities to be tapped in the country. The most relevant factor should be security.
Re: What Would Encourage You To Return To Nigeria? by Tarmpa: 6:41pm On Apr 06, 2010
Well,as for me,i think good roads & low crime will encourage me a to travel home once in a while. But being completely Nig based is a different thing entirely & i dont think i'm ready for that now. Thoughts of the Nig mafias, who are ever always malevolent & malignant is really scaring.
Re: What Would Encourage You To Return To Nigeria? by Nobody: 6:49pm On Apr 06, 2010
I think most people left this country due to lack of opportunities which occurred as a result of the  long-term econmic failure of the nation including bad governance.most of the options in poster's poll couldnt have been responsible for the mass pull out of nigerians to abroad overtime.
Re: What Would Encourage You To Return To Nigeria? by jemmyvibe: 6:52pm On Apr 06, 2010
I'm sorry to say, but why do you guys living abroad paint a big deal of a picture coming back to Naija?

Bluetooth! Lack of opporwhat? Do you know the rate at which Indians and Lebanese are flocking into the country on a daily basis?
