From what I see there, they've been on the issue for a while and the company has been accommodating thus far, but then you don't expect your boss to not run his business, cos your kid is on life support. Then there's the fact that you can't do much for him in that situation, so why not go to work hoping for the best? Its even better you show up(even if you aren't at your best) than sound like anyone owes you a job because you have a child in the hospital. 3 Likes |

From the conversation she been several permissions the to care if her child, but she is still demanding more time. Being on lie support doesn't mean you most be with the patient 24/7, when you have doctors and Nurses at hand. She should have reported to work and take time-off (1-2 hours) to see her child. |

The boss was partly right, but he should remember that he was talking with a woman who has maternal love for her child. If it were a man, it would have been a different story altogether. |

I'm enjoying this debate. Initially I was angry with d boss but look at it factually, the woman may be wrong. |

We like to see things from our own point only. Check the lines properly. The boss is not callous . He has consented to schedule changes and change in shift for her severally.Just because we are Africans so we tend to see things differently. There is a job to be done and it has to be done .The woman"s child is.on life support and she needs to be there . She can be at two places at the same time and can't eat her cake and still have it. The man was clear. Her method of giving the info was rude. Her persuasive skill is zero also ,not also gentle in manners. Above all the boss didn't deliver compassionately as probably a father . My opinion only |

This is a case of a woman seeking uneccesary pity. Is she the life support? Should there be an emergency, what expertise has she in the medical field that will help the child... |

I am completely with you on this.....she sounded so arrogant in her conversation, because that was not sounding like a request to me. She was merely notifying the boss utterly sounding entitled. dominique: |

jomoh:Its not all about the son being properly(medically) cared for, but how could she carry out her routine job in the office while the child she carried in her womb for 9months is lying unconsciously/almost lifeless in the hospital. She'll definitely make errors. Very unwise boss. |

rottennaija: Sitting there and doing nothing is just as important as not being there at all. I think working and earning some money actually helps the child better here |

pp802:How I wish I know or I know someone that knows you. People just need to be careful for someone like you. No single iota of humanity in you at all. So if the yeye boss was also part of the inferno, (which could have also been me) in Lagos few days ago, would he have being ranting in the grave too? One thing I've learnt over the years is simple, humanity before anything, not even money. When I had my twins few years ago with little issues, I never wanted to be off work at all but my reasonable boss told me to go off and put myself together. She wished me well without any string attached. If it were to be people like you, a day off is enough for you to show me the exit door. Who works perfectly when his or her child is in the line? |

I dunno how she's supposed to function effectively knowing her sons' life is hanging in the balance.. You can as well tell a nursing mother to resume work immediately after childbirth afterall she can always get people to care for the child while she's at work.. perhaps there's no need for maternity leave |

I don't even know what to say...A doctor on call must go even if his/her son is in a critical condition in another hospital so i don't se why her case should be different. |

adodofemi: Sentiments is all i see here..If there is an option of shift or extra staff then the boss might consider her plight but what if she is the only staff? what will staying away from work do to help her son? This is why we don't make progress in Africa, too much emotions, spirituality and sentiments. 1 Like 1 Share |

God forgive me but sending such a message by FB messenger. That isn't right in my opinion. Why not call and discus things? Social media is destroying people's sense of reasoning sha. Its well. Let the child recover soon. She can get a family member or friend to cover maybe half a shift worth of time at the hospital while she does her job. I believe her employer would understand. To just send a message and say you shall return whenever and continue your job without wahala. The person you are working for also has a business to run. People should learn how not to use their problem to rundown others. It is sad what she is going through but she has to show some level of understanding too. They can not just act like her position will be handled by a ghost. |

rottennaija:bro. Sorry to say but you are dull, d phone carrier is “Verizon “ so definitely its US and to be honest I’m in support of the boss, I feel her pains but she said she won’t come to work till her son is fully ok, who knows how long that will take? It’s very clear that the she hasn’t been coming to work for sometime and her boss have been accommodating, besides she’s been paid |
Re: Chat Between A Mom Whose Child Is On Life Support And Her Boss by lekdun: 11:25am On Jul 03, 2018 |
How can she concentrate on her job when her child is on Life Support, it's a matter of what is more important here, life or job? If the boss cant discern this and show more compassion, it then shows how insensitive he is, what if the boss happens to find himself in such situation, will he not give priority to health over job You can lose your job and still find another but if you lose your child, that's the end. |
Re: Chat Between A Mom Whose Child Is On Life Support And Her Boss by DrayZee: 11:27am On Jul 03, 2018 |
adodofemi: Well, if you look at the chat properly, you'll notice that the woman said "still on life support". It goes to show that the boss had probably already given her time off when she initially reported the incident, which the mother agreed to. Now she seeks to extend that time indefinitely, without caring much about how it'll affect the business. Also, she's giving out a tone of entitlement as if she's the one who owns the business. The boss is not to be blamed in my opinion. The fact that the woman carried this issue to social media in order to ridicule her boss also says more about her character. 1 Like |
