We are all going to die one way or the other anyway. It is just painful that Dr Suraj Giwa had to go that way. I'm not defending Ibinabo in anyway though. She committed a grievous offence and deserves to be punished. However, Nigeria is not Saudi Arabia where justice is instantly meted out. The rule of law still obtains in Nigeria. Ibinabo was charged with manslaughter not murder. If she had been charged with murder, she would be in a maximum prison by now. She has been to court and she has managed to escape jail so far. She was ordered to pay a fine and she has complied with that directive. When it looked as if she would be set free, the Lagos State Government stepped up the battle to get her locked up in Kirikiri Maximum Prison. Does this not tell us something? And what has the Nigerian Guild of Actors done to help Ibinabo Fiberesima out of this problem? The NGA could have organised a face to face meeting between Ibinabo and Dr Giwa's family with Ibinabo apologising for all that has happened. That is how true healing of wounds start. And for all those who are saying Ibinabo has not shown any remorse, were you at the court? Did you see the hostile reception Dr Giwa's family gave her? People should learn to look at issues from all sides. Cheers. |

oyb:Is your problem with the fact that she was not adequately punished or because she turned her life around?. Should she continue drinking and smoking so as to be culpable?. Ibinabo is not dodging any law; she served her sentence albeit lenient and apologized to the family. What else do you want her to do?. Go and jail herself when the govt has set her free?. Empty her meager savings to the family of the deceased?. Will the money heal the wounds from the loss?. Let us be careful about what we ask for and if indeed the family is hurting beyond imagination like you claim, the last thing they want for closure is money and if they demand such, then it becomes a civil case and I wouldn't have an iota of sympathy for them anymore. It's not as if Ibinabo is as rich as Dangote lest we ask for her to foot their bills since her carelessness took the life of their bread winner. She may not have N1M that she can call her own so, what else do you want her to do?. If it was a drunk taxi driver who killed the doctor, will you be demanding for financial compensation knowing full well that he can hardly feed himself? |

Aloy+Emeka: what bs are you blowing? she has not served her sentence. i will go and di up the thread. she has been dodoging you are frightening me did you not read the sentences and pics i posted? does that not give you an idea of the magnitude of what she has done? or you think such a thing cannot happen to you? do you think life is like that, that we can just up and walk away from our mistakes i wonder what you would say if some fellow raped u under the influence and the started claiming born again maybe that can give you an idea of how serious this is |
Re: Ibinabo Is Born Again by Nobody: 8:05pm On Sep 26, 2010 |
if the claims are true then she shld go to jail . . . no one shld be above the law. She can go preach to the inmates there. |
Re: Ibinabo Is Born Again by AloyEmeka5: 8:16pm On Sep 26, 2010 |
oyb: Ibinabo is a celebrity and very popular. So, if there is a warrant for her arrest, I don't think she will be painting Port Harcourt red with her bible without being apprehended. Agreed her sentencing was beyond ridiculous but she has fulfilled all she is required by law. OJ Simpson got away with murder and nobody is asking for him to be thrown into jail after his acquittal. If you must have agro, do extend it to the judge who had undue mercy on her or the Nigerian law that has no proper act for manslaughter. Bode George got 2 years for stealing billions but petty pick pockets are jailed 5 years in Nigeria daily. The law is not fair and can never be fair especially when you do not have concise information about the accident apart from the one you read and heard from the media. You don't know what transpired in court but national dailies claimed that she weeped and apologized to the family and was subsequently sentenced to 100 DAYS in jail to be served concurrently and another N100K in fines. She got paroled before the end of her sentence and was set free after paying the fine . What else do you want from her?. To convict herself?. Did IBB and Obasanjo convict themselves for genocide in Nigeria? May be it was Jesus who set her free from jail just to use her as a tool to evangelize to hard hearted citizens like you who refuse to accept Christ. |
Re: Ibinabo Is Born Again by spikedcylinder: 8:44pm On Sep 26, 2010 |
Redman44: Lol @ the bolded! Meanwhile, you have caveman mentality. Your sense of reasoning is seriously flawed. You opine that she should be let go because she is a 'celebrity'. Then you ask how many people I have wined and dined with because I call you out on your buffoonery. See how idiotic you are? I hope when someone like Terry G kills a beloved of yours after a wild, drunken night out, you can forgive them because they are 'winers and diners'. |

now let's turn this sitaution around, assuming it was Ibinabo or any of the Nollywood popular artise that was killed by a drunk bus driver or drunk doctor do you think the culprit will only be fined #100,000 and be walking about freely now 'turning' his life around. This question is for you Aloy+emeka, redman, e.tc. |
Re: Ibinabo Is Born Again by Redman44(m): 10:25pm On Sep 26, 2010 |
@spikedcylinder, Why don't you answer the salient points made in my post? You tend to underline a sentence and use it to attack someone who has has dared to stand up to your ignorance of how things really are. I did not say Ibinabo should be spared jail. Go back and read my posts carefully. Other people have been stating their own opinions on the issue without attacking the personality of other posters. I need to stop arguing with you. It is not worth it with someone of your character and uncouth way of addressing issues. If you can visit gumtree.com'S FORUMS, you will be able to learn a thing or two about moderating and managing thread discussions. You need to get some education, please. @tunnytox Tony Tonero was knocked down by a cab driver at Dopemu in Lagos some months ago. What was done to the driver? How about the trailer driver that hit Muyideen Aromire [Alade ] on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway? These men were popular entertainers in Nigeria and they were killed by commoners who were too poor to even pay any fine or represent themselves in court. Nigerian Judges are not stupid or corrupt as we think, tox. My uncle is a Judge in the Nigerian Legal System and I know what he goes through sometimes in deciding cases. The drivers that killed Alade [ Yoruba Actor and Film Producer ] and Tony Tonero [ Singer/artiste ] were either jailed for short periods or set free after paying fines or after some heavy pleading and out of court settlements with the family of their victims. Check the Nigerian Law Reports and you'll get my drift. Cheers. |

Redman44: therein lies on of the problems with nigeria. poverty is not an excuse for irresponsibility too many people who have no business driving vehicles are doing so . a month ago, i was rammed by a trailer in a traffic jam. scattered my rear light and bumper. the drivers were begging up and down, we have made no money from this trip, this trailer was impounded by police last week, when their oga came it was more of the same begging begging begging. normally, what is done is the person at fault, if he has no money parks his car in your compound until he raises the money. no way i could park a trailer in my compound, so i insisted on the trailer papers. we went to the oga's house, a slum in ebute metta. the place was slum and the guy had three young kids. the whole thing made me realise i am lucky. i just took the mans 16k, which was less than a third of the repair money. but i was very annoyed. why do people who cannot maintain their vehicles/hire good drivers/insure their vehicles ply nigerian roads a lot of people might be alive if sanctions were strictly enforced. one is always doing over defensive driving because so many of these aggressive bus and trailer drivers, for all their gragra are dirt poor and will start begging when they hit you. 1 Like |

Redman44: To be honest, this is the ONLY reason you are advocating her actions. You need her to stay out of jail for your own selfish reasons. You have not raised any 'salient' questions other than asking me about my culinary preferences. You've only tried to put forward your ignorant point of view where, everybody sins hence there should be no scape goat seems to be the order of the day. That is why I asked you if you have brain disease. It was a question, not an insult. A woman killed someone -a doctor for that matter- after getting drunk on a night out, knowing fully well that SHE SHOULD NOT be driving. After all, she is a big 'winer and diner' according to you and you come here asking me who killed Dele Giwa? Have I been on gumtree (isn't that the site for accommodation, rentals. . . that sorta thing? ) and who I dine with? Seriously, dude? Redman44: *Yawns* Another insecure git who cannot raise a few points and punches without mentioning the whole 'you are a moderator' balderdash. Tell me something, if you didn't see my name up there, will you have any 'salient' ( ) points to raise besides displaying your ignorance and social class level? You dine with the who is who of Nigeria like Ibinabo. Chai. |
Re: Ibinabo Is Born Again by Redman44(m): 7:02am On Sep 27, 2010 |
@Spikedcylinder, You are very ignorant. Gumtree has a forum and it is much more than a buying and selling and accommodation site. I don't have anything to say again. I just want you to know that there are many Nairaland members that know a lot more than you moderators. Be careful when you attack people on this site because you don't know who they really are due to the fact that they have hidden identities. We just believe in Seun Osewa and that is why we are blogging on his platform. Just heed my advice and change your approach to moderating. It is clear you have issues with some regular members of Nairaland. I am not advocating for Ibinabo because I have her in mind for some projects. Cheers. @Oyb, Good reasoning, mate. Luv ya!!! |
Re: Ibinabo Is Born Again by spikedcylinder: 10:24am On Sep 27, 2010 |
Redman44: *Rolls eyes* What has moderating got to do with ANY of the things I said? Stop showing your level of insecurity, man. |

Let me school you folks. All those that are crying that she should be given mercy because she did no kill the guy on purpose are retards!!! I bet if it was ur brothers, or fathers or sisters that was the victim, you wont be singing the same tune. What is it with Nigerians and the belief that you shouldnt be accountable for your actions, whether you intentionally committed them or not. Like when an 'olkada' guy hits ur car, causes a dent, and then starts begging. People gather and start begging. Will begging solve anythin? You caused a damage, then try to fix it. Own up to ur actions. What ibinabo committed is called vehicular manslaughter WHICH IS PUNISHABLE BY LAW. Read this excerpt, which applies to some states in the US of A Vehicular manslaughter also includes driving a vehicle in the commission of an unlawful act not amounting to felony but without gross negligence; or driving a vehicle in the commission of a lawful act that may produce death in an unlawful manner, but without gross negligence. This crime can be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony. Punishment for vehicular manslaughter depends on whether it is prosecuted as a misdemeanor or a felony. Following is a short list of the most commonly encountered vehicular manslaughter crimes and punishments: a) Vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with gross negligence may be punished by up to one year in the county jail, or four to 10 years in state prison. However, where there are one or more priors of this or certain other vehicular felonies, it may be punished by 15 years to life in the state prison |
Re: Ibinabo Is Born Again by spikedcylinder: 11:37am On Sep 27, 2010 |
rhufffryda: My sentiments exactly. Ibinabo was aware of the consequences of her actions but did it anyway because she feels she is a 'well connected' celebrity. Now she is here claiming born again because she has folks like Redman willing to lick her anus for favours. Even the likes of Paris went to jail for DUI. Tshew. |
Re: Ibinabo Is Born Again by lekside44(m): 11:37am On Sep 27, 2010 |
yes, on that faithful Sunday in 2006, the jeep of Danny Wilson which she was drunk driving left her lane to the adjacent lane to climb Dr giwas car which was held up in traffic. ever since then, she has been in a sober mood. she had been to the mother of Dr giwa to apologize personally to her. though the mother had forgiving her, it is the drs sister and wife that are still waging the the battle. Dr giwa was my neighbor. a perfect gentleman who is willing to help. |

I wonder how some people were chosen as moderators on Nairaland Anyway, I'm not saying Ibinabo was innocent. Someone has even stated on the thread that Ibinabo has apologised to Dr Giwa's mother. He who has not done anything wrong should cast the first stone For SpikedCylinder to descend so low to say that I want to lick Ibinabo's anus for favours shows her horrible sense of reasoning. It is such a shame that Nairaland has her type as a moderator. Well, I'm out of this thread. Cheers. |

spikedcylinder: Who purposely enter into a head on collision with another vehicle because he/she is connected? . She was drunk and entered the steering which is very despicable but it still falls under 'human error'. May be she was an alcoholic and under normal circumstances, should be in rehab because she was sick. Same thing drug addicts do; things like using their babies to borrow drugs pending when he/she gets the money, etc. There are women who also dump their babies at motherless homes because they can't afford them. Should the child demand her mother be killed because she made a mistake years ago?. Again, so many fathers rejected their children and their mother when they were little only to come back years later to seek for forgiveness, is it proper to tell him to go to hell because he made a mistake years ago? A mistake that could have been caused by age, drunkenness, poverty, emotional trauma, ignorance or drug addiction. |

Redman44: Lol. As I asked before, if you didn't see my name up there, will you have anything else to say? Mumu raised to power 20. Aloy+Emeka: I'm sorry, I don't follow your logic. If that was the way things worked, the prison system will be a failed 'enterprise' since almost every one is capable of feigning remorse. |

bawomolo: bawomolo: mind bawomolo: mind you, what she is charged for is not murder but man slaughter, reckless drivering, driving under the influence of alcohol, which all carries a maximum sentence of 10 years. the wife of dr giwa is suing her for a sum of 100 million naira to cater for her childrens educational fees up to phd level. dr giwas children both reside in london and have finished their BSC program. it is not really money that is the problem, but the drs wife and sister wants to take vengance on ibinabo, if possible face a death penalty. |
