That showed that Awolowo was the smartest Nigerian during that era.Next time you don't start a war you can't win.Blame ojukwu for your woes and let Awo continue to rest in peace !

Dont slip up.im trying to be neutral here now if you want to get frank, yall stated the war(attacked us first) and also you all were the ones who couldnt finish it, i.e. Britain, U.S., USSR help(three greatest powers in the world at the time). if you want to argue be diplomatic.

You cannot be diplomatic with these people.

These people are like the Republicans who are frustrating Obama now. There is no middle ground with these people. You have to use scorched earth with them. Take no prisoners.

It showed the depth that Awolowo would sink after it was Igbos who released him. We sheltered him and this is how he repay us. With bullets and starvation.

This man will never rest in peace. And I rain curses on that man.

I will not blame Ojukwu who stood up for his people. Against all odds. Nigeria against the East. British against the East. America against the East, and Biafrans fought valiantly. Remember that. . . Sent 500,000 Nigerian soldiers to an early grave while Nigeria targeted the defenseless. Mostly women and children.
Like I said, don't start wars you can't win.A meagre 15 thousand Iraqis soldiers died during the America invasion of Iraq while the larger casualties comprise of innocent citizens.Awolowo did all he could to keep Nigeria together and I'm sure he would exactly same if the threat came from within his tribe.

What does support have to do with this. All the super powers led by America,Britain, invaded Iraq and killed thousands of innocent lives .

If we chose to ignore history because its immediate implication to our tribal-based politics, atleast we have seen crises of secesion of sudan and other parts of the world and also outbreak of war in Iraq and Afghanistan etc.Honestly, did you think the Americans, british and others that supported Nigeria want ibo to scatter the union ? You also did not tell me that ibo had external support !

No, so that they will continue ruling us and the chaos in nigeria that is going on till this day will persist. Iraq-conquered by the US, Afganistan-US still fighting to conquer, Sudan- Southern Sudan accepted Africom that is why they are given referendum(they basically are conquer by the slaves to the US now). Every tribe has a right to go its own way. There was and is nothing called a union when it comes to nigeria as a country.

Abeg stop thinking like becomrich. The british colonist brought the present Nigeria together. The ibo should have protested and fight the british immediately before independence instead of waiting for six years to start the war from within.Abeg don't let me start questioning Zik nationalistic struggle against british occupation.who knows maybe it was all planned out .

This coon will never stop. I can see you are really passing thru hard times, who is that Igbo gal that broke your heart. Just when i tot you were begining to make sense. Why do you always have you d.i.ck hard for the Igbos? Anyways, what you just wrote is an epitome of a typical yoruba man who is always scared to fight for his right even when one of their illustrous sons M.K.O. Abiola was unjustly humiliated and killed by the same Northerners. They can as well decide to wipe your entire generation and nothing will happen cos you are scared to fight. Sometimes most yoruba people talk like they were plucked from the tree, keep thinking you are with Northerners son. COWARDS!!!

Arrant nonsense! Please stop using the word coon, it's a derogatory term for a black person, unless you truly believe you are a jew.

What a warped way of reasoning, did only Yorubas vote for Abiola? The mandate given to Abiola was given by all Nigerians but thanks to tribalism, it quickly fell on Yorubas to fight for a mandate given by all Nigerians.

l remember how ibos were falling over each other in their rush to flee Lagos after the annulment, so much that armed robbers saw an opportunity to waylay them.

We know who the real cowards are, they are the "Generals" who lead their people to slaughter and then conveniently escape in search of peace.

Awolowo was the greatest Yorubaman of recent memory. My father's side of the family likely would have had a much more difficult time paying for school if it hadn't been for him. His self-sacrifice and love of his people (actually, not only his own people, but all those in the Western Region and Nigeria more generally) is still yielding dividends today. Such foresight, wisdom, and intelligence. Truly a great man. In the Yoruba pantheon of heros, no one is greater.

I dunno, a lot of Igbo people accuse him of genocide, hatred of their people, etc. I don't think they think much of him. But at the end of the day, I don't really care, he is a hero to my people, and that is all that really matters from my perspective.
Re: The Greatest Nigerians That Ever Lived (zik, Awo) by T9ksy(m): 5:51pm On Nov 05, 2010
Whilst you igbos persist in demonising Awo for losing the war and ascribing the label "cowards" to the yorubas, your hero Ojukwu who led you into a meaningless war would not at any time share the same mindset with you. At no time, did Ojukwu blame Awo for what happened to the Igbos, during the war. I wonder why? probably 'cause he knew more about the intricacies the civil war than the rest of you guys, do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9jYfDUk0I8&feature=related

Below is Ojukwu shamelessly admitting that he charged relief organisations "Landing fees" or else they will not be allowed to bring in food to feed starving biafran children. This landing fees was then utilised by ojukwu to maintain his war efforts. This depict Ojukwu as a cold-hearted megalomaniac who was willing to sacrifice the death of thousands of his people as collateral damages in a bid to satisfy his personal ambition. However, after the gratuitous deaths of hundreds of thousand igbos, Ojukwu finally sued for PEACE. But my igbo brothers still keep yapping on about Awo starving biafran children to win the war.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSqhqP3U-t4&feature=related

One thing is certain which am sure my yoruba brothers can also attest to and that is, had Awo adorned himself in the garb of an "Are ona kankanfo"- military general and led us into such a disastrous war with the attendant loss as experienced by the igbos, we yorubas will certainly not be lionising him now. It will definitely be the opposite.
