kings59: I believe op stated that clearly. The mum refused to collect transfer letter with good reasons and I believe they viewed it as an act of insubordination and thus suspended her. |

cutefy: Hello Cutefy. I'll try to address the subject now. 1. OP's Mum has been transferred (as a Head Teacher) from Primary School A to Primary School B. 2. Mama OP and OP wish to reject the transfer for three reasons. A. The new school is a mega school with more staff, apparently more pupils and 3 large arms/subsects. With that situation of greater number of personnel, there's bound to be greater friction between human beings working or schooling there. It is an inherent part of human nature. B. School B is far from OP & Mama OP's residence. C. Mama OP is a known hypertensive individual Now, let's address 1, 2(a), 2(b) & 2(c) without allowing emotions to ride our judgement. 1. For a civil servant of 32 years working history it isn't strange to be posted from a smaller place / unit to a bigger responsibility, irrespective of location. It isn't also unusual, for example, for the transfer to be from a local government office to one in the State Capital, for example, in a vertical ascendancy that comes with increased years of service or from a smaller establishment to a bigger one. That's quite common. 2(a) I see the above playing out here - except tar it is from a smaller school within a local government to a hybrid primary school arrangement within the same local government while retaining her position as a Head Teacher. 2(b) The location of a civil servant's transfer is ENTIRELY at the behest of the adminstrative staff and leadership of the Civil Service (Teaching Service Commission/ SUPEB in this case) . One of the factors that has messed up education at the primary and secondary school level in Nigeria is that many teachers are too comfortable in a station/school. They become 'principalities' even as mid-level staff and challenge superior authority at will, be it Principal or anyone else from the Ministry. I am not suggesting that such is the situation here. I am only being quite generic. 2(c). Indeed, I manage Hypertension professionally as a part of my daily responsibilities and I can confirm to OP that a significant percentage of post-menopausal black women have something known as Primary Hypertension or Idiopathic HTN, whichever you pick. Most women with a 32 year career around here are post menopausal i.e above 52 years of age. What's my point? Most teachers of OP's Mum's age - whether male or female really - are battling with one chronic disease or the other: Hypertension, Arthritis, Diabetes etc. As long as a person is capable of remaining in thee service and working daily until the transfer, it would otherwise be a very weak ground to reject a statutory transfer on such ground as Hypertension, unfortunately. I hope this helps. Cheers. 4 Likes |

ayoadeifee:ask your mum what the civil service rules and regulations say about not reporting at a duty post and she should also explain what it means to refuse orders from your superiors. 2 Likes |

In civil service, there is posting and transfer. The SUBEB chairman has every right to post your mum to another school. It's only unfortunate that she was taken away from her comfort zone. Suspension can lead to termination of appointment. It's a serious misconduct if you refuse to leave your present post to where you are sent. I will advice her to go meet the SUBEB chairman and plead with him to withdraw the suspension letter. Let her just go to the new school. She can seek for a transfer later. Note that suspension comes without payment of salary. 2 Likes |

DrTee1: So what you're trying to say is that Mummy OP has actually been promoted...? Anyway, this is a good analysis. I hope she reads it. It's funny how we often see things in the opposite of how they actually are, just because the situation involves somebody we hold dear. We would be tempted to sympathise with them because of the way she told us what happened, but in reality, her mother's actions and justifications were totally wrong 2 Likes |

DrTee1:If that is your major concern why not open a school specially for teaching people English language... You should understand her very well even though the write up is wrongly constructed that shows you are learned and sound in the language unless you are a newbie to the language. Besides you also made mistakes in your write up .. Onye nkuzi |

Slawormir: This is the truth about this work setup. It's better to move to the new post and see how to manage things. She has just three years to retirement and shouldn't do anything to mar her record. |

budaatum:No , they are still praying so that those consultation can make themselves That "we are still praying" line really spoil the pity I think I may have on this issue, praying for what exactly? That's the extent at which religion has blinded us in this part of the world. Am not saying prayer is bad but at least, there some necessary steps that needs to be taken before you can start prayer like those I just quoted here . |
