The answer is not straightforward because there isn't any outstanding player who dominated individually, clubwise and nationally. Mikel won for club and country but was never voted African best player. Kanu won for club and also African best player twice but never won the nations cup. Okocha won the nations cup but won nothing for club or individually. Yekini was an outstanding goalscorer but never played for any top club. In Cameroon Etoo has no comparison because he won everything.

In terms of talent, who would you rate higest? Messi or Ronaldo?

Messi is more talented. No denials

But Ronaldo triumps over him in greatness at least for now

overrated doesn't mean they aren't good but their fans constantly comparing them to someone greater is what I mean by overrated.

If you ask an average Nigerian who is better between kanu and okocha most of them will mention okocho even though he never won anything personally significant and he is only known for his dribbles.

You didn't have to bring Messi to this, the reason I called maradona overrated is because his fans think of him as s God while in fact he's a fraud.

He played 490 official club games during his 21-year professional career, scoring 259 goals; for Argentina he played 91 games and scored 34 goals.

He won a world cup by cheating and if they were var during his era he would have been called a fraud and laughed out
Alaiye ,go sidon joor, na Maradona kinsman be referee bah, messi never scored undeserved goal in his career ? dont ever call Maradona a fraud in football, if not social media that overhyped players this days, you cant call cr7 or messi a legend cus they never had wc winning medal, which is the biggest tournament in the sport, I see people like you calling them great, those times players like zidane never scored much goals, same with figo and rivaldo , they were world best, that's why you rarely see very good midfielders this days , everything na goal, football is no more entertaining like those times

Everything now na pass, shoot n score...
No wonder the likes of Messi n CR7 can dominate the game for over 12 yrs now, and no one looks close to challenge them....

Kanu is the most successful Nigerian player so far
Okocha is the most gifted but grossly under achieved...
Stephen Keshi was the influential all round...
Rashedi Yekini was one of the most successful and influential...
Vincent Enyeama is Nigeria's most consistent, most successful and longest goalkeeper of all time, one of the most influential players too...
Mikel Obi is one the decorated/successful alone Kanu Nwankwo but underperformed at National team...

Notable mention.
Sunday Oliseh
Peter Rufai
Mudal Lawal
Thompson Usiyen
Etin Etim should have competed with Okocha if he wasn't wasted by misfortune or bad luck. He as talented as Okocha but more purposeful than Okocha even from U20...

Kanu is the best : he won laurels, Africa best twice and played very long international and club side.

Okocha was very good entertainer.
Kanu had luck all around him. In the latter time of his career, he would be put in match at die mins and wonders usually happens.

You got my mind...they should go online, how many times did Mikel rep Nigeria? Talk of humanitarian attributes, Kanu is 1.

Okocha didn't have luck for some big recognition, he rather entertained as a player less as a team.

Rashid did not do much outside Africa, Keshi reigned as a good leader but never as much as Kanu on club side...

For winning Kanu, for laugh, Jay jay

Hahahaha... How the hell did Mourinho destroy football? And what's negative football? Remember Mourinho was coaching as at 2004, and football technicality was still high (zidane, Figo, delima, dinho, okocha, Deco, rui Costa, veron, riquelme were still playing o, etc)

How did referee help Fergie?? Fergie had great technical players na... (Scholes, cantona, Yorke, Cole, veron, Nistelrooy etc)

You must be an arsenal fan ... When you were buying diaby, djourou, chiamaka , bendtner etc nkó grin

Most Ballon D'Or winners are strikers because goals win games. And Rashidi Yekini remains the greatest striker Nigeria has ever had.
If you want to argue, argue with yourself.
u wronged sir. It is the time of Messi and cr7 that FIFA are using goals because all today's players are average. Very average set of players. Unlike those days that people are fighting to win balon dor

What did mikel do in afcon 2013?
Nothing spectacular about mikel outing in S.A 2013.
After all olivier giroud also won world cup practically doing nothing.

Sunday mba scored the winning goal.
Victor moses sent nigeria to the final

Mikel's best highlight and career recognition was in the 2005 fifa under-20 championship hosted by holland.

theowane:
What was the modification is I may ask please? Makalele was a deep holding midfielder, who was always shy of going toward, he scored very few goal (I'm not sure it's even up to 5), same with Mikel. Mikel was also a holding midfielder (in Chelsea), who was also shy of going toward and scored very few goals. So what is the modification that Mikel did?
Now talking of Kanu been an attacker that was replaced easily, I don't understand?? Do You know the quality of attacking players Nigeria had during that active footballing days of Kanu? Yekini, Siasia, Akpoborie, Amokachi, Ahagowa, Martin's, Ikpeba. You think all these guys were moi moi abi? Let me be frank with you; Mikel never really had competition in the national team not becos he was too exceptional, but because during his peak, Nigerians didn't really have exceptional midfielders. Na Lukeman Haruna abi na Sunday Mba or Agu or onazi wan step up? Nigerian footballers were average when he came in so he had to shine.
Now that's in terms of quality. In terms of achievements, please look at the trophy statistics again before you talk. Kanu has more trophies than Mikel. The only thing he won that Kanu didn't win is Afcon. But Kanu has won every other thing Mikel has won, plus winning African best not once o, but twice. Just look at the stats again my brother.

Don't mind them. The just wake up and start watching Chelsea and think they know football.
Kanu is far the best ever Nigerian footballer in every aspect you want to take your argument to.
