@babyosisi I'm telling you the truth here. If a man is bringing in a new wife and not only he and his new wife are in accord, but even current wife or wives agree with it, why not? My father had 4 wives. But momsie was against the marriage of the last wife while the other two wives at the time supported it. Majority wins the vote. So she broke his head, broke his new wife's head, broke up with him and we left. And my dad and his remaining 3 wives lived happily ever after. |

What's this again? Be ready to teach Yar'adua on how to dress in suit, because I doubt if he has ever worn that. What's wrong with agbada anyway? Did you see Gadaffi at the same gathering? |

I think our 'traditional' outfits (agbada, babariga, wrapper etc) are cool and elegant, and should be worn with pride and dignity. But, it has no place in business, especially international business. Politics is business. The President of a country is, in effect the 'CEO' of the country and should kit out like the CEO of a multi-national would. If it is a ceremonial or informal occasion or event then that's a different ballgame. Our traditional outfits do no look or portray a business-like disposition. Here again as is the norm with Nigerians sentiments hold sway! |

Can anyone tell me if there is an official dress code for heads of govt? And what that might be? cos as far as i am aware, there isnt! so whats all this rambling about? please oh let our leaders wear what they like, and that obviously seems to be traditional dress. For christs sake give it a rest!! |

Like someone said, reverse the scenario, that is Agbada being the oyibo attire and Monki Coat being the African traditional, we are going to be having this EXACT argument, agbada will become the ''Multinational'' uniform! Na real wa for for African pipulu o. |

Nigeria politicians must really change their attire. The new preisdent came to South Africa recently, wow he really looked funny with big white dresses. Goodness me! |
Re: Dress Code Of Nigerian Policians: A Disgrace by redsun(m): 2:07pm On Jul 23, 2007 |
Typical south africans, dresses more like the incas of south america,a combination of western and native attire. In nigeria, our dressing is our heritage,it is either you hate it or like it,afterall, suit is just a design,a white man's design, just like any other design, just because white man wears it does not mean every body should.Legitimate,is what you made legit, nothing apart from nature came from the sky,it is all man made. |
Re: Dress Code Of Nigerian Policians: A Disgrace by denex: 3:35pm On Jul 23, 2007 |
@redsun don't challenge South Africans on behalf of thabo. If you follow thabos posts, you will find out that its been all about helping South Africans condemnNigeria today, and helping Nigerians condemn South Africans tomorrow. Typical divide and conquer apprentice. He must be one of those ex-colonial Masters in South Africa, hating because he's now becoming a colonial servant. |

He has only one wife. Whom i heard he loves and respects so much because she gave himone of her kidneys( I can't confirm this) |
Re: Dress Code Of Nigerian Policians: A Disgrace by redsun(m): 4:43pm On Jul 23, 2007 |
@denex,i love south africans just like i love every real person, but i am just pointing out the fact, on how the native south africans, mostly in the country side dresses. As par thabo,he is just in his own world base on his perception of things which is understandable but not necessarily agreeable.I have a couple of south african acquantance here in england, they love boose and always in the mood to party,be it monday, because most of them don't work, always into diamond deals and rackets. |
Re: Dress Code Of Nigerian Policians: A Disgrace by Nobody: 9:26pm On Jul 23, 2007 |
aisha2: really, she gave him a kidney? what great love. If he ever opens his mouth to mention that he's getting another wife, all she needs to do is demand for her kidney back. grafikdon:Most of us women are not settling for that nonsense .My dad had one wife and I will be the only wife and that's final. Any woman that marries an already married man ought to see a psychiatrist, something is not wrapped too tightly. |

@ Poster: I was truly angry at first to read what you posted here, but the freedom to post and debate is very important in a forum such as this. It`s always a sad day for me whenever I bump into someone with the type of thought process you`ve displayed here.I guess the only way to gain from reading this thread is to leave you with something to think about. What I want you to ask yourself is simpe: since the white man came in contact with the black man, do you know of anything that is exclusively african that the white man has ever embraced ? In other words, do you know of anything they do today that they have copied from african culture? As I`ve said, you don`t need to share your answer with me-just ruminate!!! |

Some folks will always find a way to raise stupidity to higher levels. Or may be it's just some kid expressing junior opinions about dressing. Either way, this is just dumb. |

@Poster, Did Nelson Mandela wear a suit at international gatherings? Will his appearance at such gatherings be "un-business like" (my own word)? When he spoke, would the responses he received be scant or none at all, because of what he wore or would he receive more responses and respect as an international statesman because of who he is? How about Kwame Nkrumah when he was alive? Ok, how about Indira Ghandi when she was alive? Did people really look down on Mahatma Ghandi with a bedroom wrapper over his body or was he respected and given international accolade for the quality of his teachings and wisdom? You've heard the popular maxim, "big clothes do not make a big man". You can wear a £1000 suit and still be considered a donut at an international gathering. And we certainly know who this is applicable to. Ok, humour me this one time. You claimed like others in support of your stance on this thread, that the Chinese wear suits at International gatherings. True. And I am sure the French and Japanese do as well. But guess what? You'd never hear them converse in English, even though you and I know fully well they can speak the language. It's good to generate a good discourse, but sometimes I despair whether topic starters actually do a proper appraisal of the quality of the topic before they press the "Enter Button". |
