I wonder why dangote will need 270 workers from India alone in a country of over 100 million available work force.

It's not untrue that our educational system is not in order, but adequate training will fill the gap.

The Indian workers would have passed their skills to Nigerians that worked with them.

A woman calls her husband who has gone to work.
Woman: Baby, pls buy me Yam at the market on your way back from work.
Husband: OK honey, but I gave you money before leaving the house this morning, right?
Woman: Yes, baby. But I'm tired. Do that for me, pls!
Husband: OK honey, see you. Few minutes later, the husband calls the woman back.
Husband: Honey, help! Come quickly, to the market. The lady selling the yam grabbed me by the neck, accusing me of being responsible for her pregnancy.
Woman: What? Baby I'm on my way.
She arrived the market and calls her husband to know his position.
Woman: Hello baby, I'm here. Pls where are you?
Husband: I'm still at work. Buy your yam and go home dear.
Love youuuuuu.
You're a very stingy man nonsense sad

I don't think they are employees of Dangote group. Some weeks back, some indians protested against their employer who deployed them to dangote refinery to work during lockdown without providing adequate safety measures. I guess their country saw the video and acted on it.

Bros. The top staffs at Dangote Industries are Indians.
The people in the video you are talking about are even Chinese. They use those set of Chinese for cheap labour.

I have met them at an operation field in the past. Some of them are out of prison or still serving sentence and they transfer them down here.

I was an intern in one of Dangote's establishments some years ago.

Indians dey chop life for that Company but me I no send their Papa one bit.

What matter is that people are not dropping dead on the streets. Its obvious Covid-19 predictions for African countries has not been validated by events. Let's thank God for that. Not our doing because we just got lucky. Ordinary social distancing we couldn't do.

Statistics or no statistics, ask yourself if more or less people are dying of Covid-19 outside Africa compared to inside African countries especially Sub-Saharan countries.

You call expatriate cheap?

I won't argue with you
Humans hate what they don't understand
Try and work with expatriates whether Indian or any other nationals
They are all fuckkking expensive
If you require their services
You going to be spending more money
Indian in particular will be working for you in your country and make sure you patrionize thier product...
The vehicle for transportation will be Tata ( Indian vehicle)
. Allowance is also involved

Maybe you have not put a fellow Nigerian to run your business, they will run it aground and embezzle all your money. If you try to monitor them 24/7 you will hear them complain. We have this attitude of "he has money so let's chop our own". What I would have suggested is the managerial positions should be Indians while Nigerians will do the rest.

No expatriate or foreign labourer is cheap. They are all comparatively expensive. The rational for their employment may be their technical expertise in installing certain equipment. Might be part of the terms of purchase. And it is often tied to a time-specific bargain. They are all expensive. Processing their immigration requirements, periodic travels, accommodation, health insurance, etc, not to mention off-site salaries and upkeep allowances, etc is no fun. Costly. I know so.

You are right about it,That is exactly what happens and is happening.
Below Engineering staff and few Critical operation supervisors all remains local people.

Have you noticed,Here are too many Ignorant people who have never step a foot inside a Proper Industrial plant are questioning need of foreign experts, this shows our knowledge and wisdom.

They dont know and dont want to know that Just To operate a HP Boiler you have to have 3 different post Diploma Technical Certificates from USA, India or Germany (not to mention years of actual operation experience as well).
Worldwide Most reputed controllers and auditors and Certificate providers are USA NB-370, IBR (Indian Boiler Regulation Authority) and EnEV 2014, 15 Certification from Germany.

I am sure a lot of people here dont understand how dangerous it can be to do mistakes in High Pressure Industrial Boiler operating at 130 bar steam pressure in close loop.
That is why Expert Technical people are required.
And this is just one Example of just one machine in any plant. Ignorance is bad but not trying to understand is nothing but a curse.

You are crying foul. Can you do field Termination of PRD Connected to Profibus PA network?
Can you do Commission , troubleshoot SF6 GIS RMU?

You dont have skills and crying because someone is much much more skilled, educated, Experience and capable ?
Update yourself, Get some knowledge , skill set and then think about good life like Foreigner experts.
I have worked under them , i know what it takes them to reach at such levels. Mr. Dangote will not hand over his Multi million USD plant just to be ruined within seconds.

Ignorance at its peak.

Dangote should invest in Nigerians. I am more than certain the role these indians occupy can definitely be done by people amongst the 180million Nigerians.

I really hate when I read news like this or hear of Nigerian companies employing foreigners to do jobs that Nigerians are clearly competent and capable of doing. If I can't get gainful employment in my own backyard, of what use is the backyard.

Nigerian workers are not as dedicated, skillful and hard-working as their counterpart from India and China. Quote me anywhere. Speaking from experience

You're 1000% correct with what you have just said. Many Nigerian workers are not honest in their dealings with the Companies or Clients they work for. Construction workers on building sites will steal cement, gravel, wood etc. Plasterers will pocket the money given to them to buy water to mix the cement and sand together, and will use water from other uncompleted buildings on the site smiley smiley smiley smiley. If you don't buy building materials yourself, you will lose money because the engineer and site workers might inflate prices of the materials to your detriment. Truth is something they detest and you have to be careful when dealing with your workers if you are a business owner in Nigeria. You have to monitor your Business or Venture all the time because most of your workers are not interested in the success of your venture. They are only interested in their Wages and Salaries.

Local Emiratis are expensive so hiring Indians is cheaper, not sure it is the same for Nigeria.

Re: 270 Indian Workers At Dangote Company Depart Nigeria by kayjay69(m): 12:29am On Jun 06, 2020
Kindly explain why Dangote also employs quite a number of Indians across his other manufacturing businesses. This is not even limited to Dangote, several other companies mostly in the manufacturing sector are quite fond of this.

The main problem I have with Indians is once you let one in, they bring their entire village. And they are quite a racist lot. When they are of a sizeable number, they'll demand for their own toilet and their own dining hall. I know of an agro-export company owned by a Nigerian but run by indians, this is the scenario. So please let me know if this is fair to be treated like 2nd class citizens in your own country.

These so-called contractors end up staying becoming permanent contractors, earning way better than the actual employees and occupying top management positions. Look, as much as there might really be limited skill in refining, what you see in Nigeria on the larger scale with regards to employment of foreigners, you will never find anywhere else in the world.

I work in the maritime sector where this same BS scenario is commonplace. You find companies saying they cannot find suitably qualified Nigerians to fill roles, so they go employ all manner of foreigners. Even when they manage to "find", so far you are a Nigerian resident in Nigeria, a foreigner will always earn more than you even if said Nigerian has the necessary qualifications and experience. It is almost like some companies are setup not to cater to the immediate community. The companies do not mind paying Nimasa thousands of dollars to get waivers to employ these so-called expatriates. This will never ever ever happen in any country, not Ghana or Angola, only in Nigeria.

So please I have seen this seen this same scenario replay itself over and over, it is bulls**t and we all need to stand together and condemn it rather than cook up excuses on behalf of these companies.
LaIabobo:

Not true. There is limited skill in refinery engineering in Nigeria. The contractors are Indians and they brought in skilled and semiskilled experienced labourers from their country. Hundreds of Nigerians are also undergoing training in India.

Dangote is trying his best. He is the arguably the largest private employer of labour in Nigeria.
