And to specialize as a plastic doctor, you need to do one year internship after graduation, plus one year of NYSC, then at least 6 years of residency training, where you would be trained in the surgical speciality, with eventual emphasis on plastic surgery.

If she was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, she would have , after NYSC , had to do USMLE1 and 2....which depending on finances, and other things can take 2-7 years. Then you enter your USMLE results for the 'match'...and based on your match results...you may be matched into surgery, or any other speciality....and then you get offers...

Of course once you have sorted your visa, and so on....you then start work, then eventually one year later...USMLE 3 (10 US states prefer you pass USMLE 3 before you come and mess around in their hospitals)...after that 6 years of training as a surgical resident in plastic surgery....then you can call yourself a plastic surgeon.

Of course, there is the Board exams....but that's another story.

Madam Anu is not adequately trained for plastic surgery.

As an intern , I once did part of my surgery posting under a plastic surgeon who spent at least 6 years at Igbogbi, post graduation, learning her craft. And no, she didn't do butt lifts and so on...her caseload was made up of patients with severe injruies who needed cosmetic surgeries after the fact (eg burns cases, etc).

I don't know what she has or has not. When you attend a seminar, at the end certificates are issued. It could be a one day or one month duration it does not matter as long as it covers content of the course.
Now, license is issued by a licensing board, an agency approved by government. Most licenses are easy to locate as most government agencies have a list of registered members in these of intermate on their websites
However, this is not so with certification because it does not grant approval to practice instead it evidence acquisition of knowledge.
Simply put;
You cant say you have a certificate to practice cosmetics surgery but you can say you have a license to practice cosmetics surgery.

OK...full disclosure, I am a medical doctor.

1.Here in Nigeria, when you pass your medical exams, and graduate with MBBS, you get a provisional licence to practice medicne in Nigeria from the MDCN.. You get the full registration once you have finished the one year mandatory Housemanship/Internship....then you can procced for NYSC.

2.To be a Plastic or cosmetic surgeon in Nigeria, you need to do residency in Surgery, with a focus on plastic surgery, which takes about 6 years. At the end of 6 years, you write the Fellowship exam...which on passing...makes you a Consultant/Specialist Plastic surgeon with the title Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, or Fellow of the Medical College.(we have two postgraduate colleges for the training of specialists)

(To qualify to do residency, you must pass a Primary exam, and to qualify to do the Fellowship exam, you must pass the membership exam 3 years after starting residency).

3.Once you are a specialist, you register your qualification with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.(MDCN).

In other words it takes time.


4.To be a board certified plastic surgeon under the American College of Surgeons, takes 1) passing USMLE1 AND2, and then 2) on passing the exam, getting matched to a residency programme for plastic surgery/cosmetic surgery in the US and finally 3) doing 6 years of training....and passing the boards at the end. 4) and even then you have to be recertified every year, by writing the board exams for your college 5) surgical residencies in the US are very difficult for IMG's to get into. The US prefers its citizens before anyone else for surgery residency places.

I would never deliberately demonize anyone. I don't even know what hoity toity means. All I am trying to say which may have sounded standoffish to you which was really not intentional,is that there is more to life and living than physical attributes. You can imagine the comments from that guy you scolded. If I was the kind of person that gets carried away or knocked out by words of mouth, probably I would have been looking for sniper now.
I have a scar on my face as a woman,and I had to psyche myself to feel and look beautiful. I am trying to also say that every thing we do on Earth here is vanity even though it may give us temporary joy. Apart from people that lost their lives in botched surgeries,there are some that are permanently disfigured and living their lives in regret and depression. There are people that are limbless,blind and are stricken with one ailment or the other,but still find time to appreciate God.
I believe that in our pursuit to make ourselves look better,one Should be careful about the choices they make.
I feel bad that my fellow woman had to die Because of that surgery and I Know that most people would have been saying that she should have remained the way she was and still be alive.
