In Africa where parents lack means - they often send their child to a wealthier relative. This is not an act of cruelty - it is an act of desperation. This is the same system that Western nations use and they call it fostering. The African system worked well in the past, My father for instance educated his brother's children all the way to masters in the UK simply because my father was the first to be educated. in his family - his nephew was not treated as a houseboy - we all wore the same clothes and ate the same clothes. This was how African society worked. If that relative ill-treats the child, you cannot turn around and blame the parent who sent him there - unless they were aware of the conditions and were lazy or negligent in protecting the child after learning of the same.
