Well said ma, you didn't even mention some of us who have basic medical science degrees (Anatomy/Physiology/Pharmacology) whom are now about to be thrown out of medical school. Imagine as an Anatomist, Drs are telling us that even with Msc and PhD we still need to have MBBS in order to enable us lecture in our own department in medical school. Forgetting that eminent Anatomist like Prof Keith Moore didn't even have MBBS background. It's so sad!!!

Really @ bolded but why?

So After having an MSc in pharmacology / anatomy/ physiology with PhD, you have to get an MBBS degree to lecture either of them only?

Doesn't sound right

Which school is this or is it general

You're very right. My husband studied anatomy and he complained bitterly. Infact, he left the field for programming.

Modified: I forgot to add that even medical biochemist and microbiologist have all been side lined by medical doctors.

.

Make I go sleep. Tomorrow is sunday

That's really something @ bolded first time hearing of the MBBS requirement to lecture .

Then they should scrap the those courses then, there really is no point.

Initially it started I guess in UI, but now it is all over. They said those with only Bsc/Msc/PhD are not "medically qualified". They said only those with MBBS, BDS and recently DVM (Veterinary medicine) are "medically qualified". Even this new university of medicine has joined the foray.

Biochemistry is even included.

But those universities are still offering PhD programmes in anatomy and co, what is one expected to do with a PhD if lecturing is not part of it.

God bless you, okay if you say we need to be medically qualified to teach MBBS students, what of medlab, pharmacy, radiography, physiotherapy, Bsc Anatomy/Physiology/bch etc, do we also need to be medically qualified to teach them too

They will tell you the PhD is meant for only MBBS/BDS/DVM. No need for Bsc to apply!!! except you want to travel out

Then to the Med Lab peeps, Please I'll like to ask? what is the role of a MBBS pathologist in a medical lab, cos I'm yet to be convinced of their relevance?

Good question
I loved people who wants to learn and not spread ignorance as the op
I already decided not to answer him

As we all know medicine wasn't this great when it started
It has grown into what it is today even today the extent of smuggling the title doctor instead of physician

Then followed Nursing as started by Nightingale

Something all of us should know is that every profession is developing and it's development can't be hindered by any profession

Even consultancy in medicine is a developed form of medicine

Now comes the question what is the role of pathologist(Dr)

A pathologist is a doctor or a scientist according to Wikipedia
The Doctors smuggled it too since they came first before the scientist

As every field and career
They all started from little
The doctors were the ones who Dec to have scientist in order to lessen the burden on them
And as at that they were running errands for doctors
As professionalization and development continues they grew into the great profession of Biomedical sciences(MLS)

In recent years due to their less clinical knowledge pathologist(Dr) were still heading them
Here comes the problem
The scientist then decided to increase their training so that they can gain more clinical experience and training so that they can fully exercise their rights as medical laboratory scientist
Hence the need for MLSD, Science Training Program(STP) UK, Higher Specialist Scientist Training Program(HSST) UK , Merging to train with pathologist(Dr)in the Royal College of Pathology FCRPath US

After undergoing any of this training they are now competent both in clinical and experience to man and head the lab effectively

We scientist are telling the doctors to vacate the labs now as we have developed to the extent that we can man the lab effectively
Even a BMLS degree holder can interpret his results without a mistake not talking about an experience scientist with more training

We can man the lab effectively as scientist but the doctors are Adam since they came into existence before us

But we have shown them every profession is autonomous
Doctors who still wants to be pathologist are wasting their time as we scientist are already heading the labs effectively

This is the time for doctors to concentrate on treating patients and not fighting for the headship of labs

The advanced degree are in place to give the clinical knowledge
Doctors are not longer needed in the labs
Let them concentrate on treating patients

That's all

Pathologist will soon go into extinction in this country when MLSD and the post graduate college of medical laboratory science is finally integrated

Just BMLS is giving them hard time lol

As far you are trained in the college of medicine you are medically qualified

If they should succeed with their plans soon nurses and medical laboratory scientist will start seeking for them only to be lecturing nursing student you must have a bsc Nursing and for you to lecture MLS students you need to have a BMLS background
And this will force the way to creation of more faculties for Nursing and MLS

I trust AMLSN
They are gonna do the needful
I hope the doctors succeed on this

More chaos is coming as they won't try to undermine other professionals and get away with it

Just relax

But the question is, how many MLS would be ready to do their Msc in Anatomy, Same goes for nursing, pharmacy etc, are they going to be sufficient to man all the faculties of MLS, Pharmacy, Nursing etc in Nigeria. And let me burst your brain, they are moves to make admission into Msc/PhD in Anatomy/Physiology etc strictly for those with MBBS background. I hope you know they've already succeeded in MPH (Masters of Public Health), you can't get admission into Masters of Public Health if you're not a doctor !!!!!. So it's like there is an ambush

Why lie when you can say the truth?? Even in the US where NPs have the most unrestricted practice right, one mostly find them in Primary care, psychiatry or as an hospitalist.

Please stop lying.

Don't worry
When the time comes you will know

You don't need a masters to lecture

It's all lies. At a point the UK was considering it, but it seems they boycotted the idea.

The US has one of the most liberal laws when it comes to non physician prescribers but surgery is strictly regulated.

The only people licensed to perform surgery are

1. MD/DO : with surgical training.
2. DPM : Foot and ankle only
3. DDS/DMD : with surgical training.

No country allows Nurses perform surgery.

You can get admission to an MPH program with any allied health degree. Nurses, MLS etc have been admitted. It is much easier to be admitted with an MBBS/BDS/DVM degree but I honestly won't conclude considering the fact that holder's of Bmls , Bnsc most times do not apply to MPH programs.

HSST training is 5years for crying out loud and for your information this is the category D.Clin(Consultant in Clinical Science) work not MLS.D
*Clinical Immunology
*Transfusion Science
*Pharmacology
*Clinical Biochemistry
*Hematology (HSST is attached at the end)
A D.Clin can never be a
*Histopathologist
*Forensic Pathologist
*Surgical Pathologist
*Haematologist
*Immunologist
According to Royal College of Pathologist, only Biomedical Scientist are the non-medical professionals trained to have (FRCPath)
