This defeatist mentality is unhealthy. Imagine giving up on a great job market because it's competitive—na wa o!

The jobs popping up ARE AVAILABLE, and you can't win them if you don't apply (or get invited to apply).

Bro, I no be small pikin, at my age, I can’t venture into anything I don’t see a future in, working as a graphics designer in Nigeria for Nigerians is a NO for me, I saw one offer that’s states you work from 9-5 and their office is at lekki phase 1, you already know your salary can’t afford you any house close to phase 1 cause it’s 80k a month. So I am not wrong in trying to know what’s happening in freelance websites like fiverr, I can pack face and look for something else to do sir, you don’t expect me to spend time, learn, gain experience and dump everything to switch to something else because it’s not working, Nigeria is heading towards doom, you need a third eye.

There are Nigerians there (living in this same Buhari-run Nigeria) making millions monthly.

Park face go where? You need reassurance of big pay when you don't even have experience? You're not ready.

This got me laughing tho it's not funny.
Freelancing pays only if you shift your gaze from the monetary gains first and improve better on your skill and experience.

Na so una dey talk, passion until your parents call you from the village and you don’t have money to give them, life has gone beyond fashion for me, if it’s not making money then I’m not involved sir.

Am a graphic designer / Virtual assistant. I have been in upwork and fiverr for a few months now. I have not landed any job yet.
To get a job on those site are very competitive.
It best to apply for job with ur skills on any company. It very difficult being a Nigerian trying to make it legitimate online.
I source for clients offline now, where I design products package, Flyers, Posters, Cover book and Newsletter. At least once a week. I get job from friends or on Facebook. Currently looking applying for jobs.
To get Jobs on fiverr or upwork u will have to do some work free and build up ur profile to show u have done such work before. Again u need to optimiz ur LinkedIn, Facebook and twitter. Have a portfolio profile and website.

This is me right now, I always wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Thank goodness I'm not the only one

You need a mentor. That's the problem some people trying to break into the freelance space don't know.

I once charged a guy a meager 20k to teach him Fiverr and he was like, that's much.

I laughed him because I know his first job on that platform might be 50k.

That's great! I think the problem that is common to every freelancer that always complains is laziness. You must always be online and also try not to miss a chat for instance on Fiverr and you reduce sleeping all night. Creat heart-blowing gigs. Moreover, don't forget God in your equation. Remember you are not the only one on the platform. #Be prayerful and offer excellent jobs whenever the opportunity comes.

What's your niche?

Fiverr, 15 Uk accounts $2,000 least every month
Whiteboard animation gig.

Is always advisable to do online and offline.

Also invest in businesses, to be able to survive in the waiting period and funds for review exchange

If you don't see a future in what you're currently doing, then why are you doing it?

Who mentioned 9 - 5s? Isn't freelancing what we're talking about?

you already know your salary can’t afford you any house close to phase 1 cause it’s 80k a month.

I earned almost 500k last month, and I had taken 2 weeks off.

I never said you were.

If you know Nigeria is heading in the wrong direction, why not spend your valuable time focusing only on the area you want to specialize in? Nigerians are making money on Upwork and Fiverr, and you can too.

But you shouldn't expect people to come and pay you to do jobs in an area you're not even sure you want to specialize in. If you want to book an urgent ride, would you choose a new driver who doesn't know his way around and isn't sure he wants to drive?

Once you are good, then you're good to go.

You get referrals. In fact na you go tire.

I don't use upwork / fiverr nonsense. Lots of competition.

I get most of my clients from nairaland! Yes, clients full here. Both home based and foreign clients..

It was fun and interesting that year working as a freelance writer, graphics designer, virtual assistant, brand deveoper (Something related to that) but...

Account got banned and son of mon has not been able to build another account

I wanted to venture into online business but I've only squandered all my savings; I have only been doing try and error

E come be like say I don lazy

But Verily Verily I say unto you that there's money is freelancing, just make your research and pick a good niche and avoid scam site like Guru.com (My $250 dey there (Fund that I kept there with the hope of emergency or something to fall back to if things go side ways but I was shock to know that Guru.com does not pay their freelancer's; it's owned and managed by a scammer)

Future plan is to learn a new skill and get back into the market with more fire

I resigned from my job to work as a full time freelancer. Been making nothing less than 500k/mo since last year and my life has changed. I'm into video editing/motion graphics/animations.

You need to up your game and make yourself competitive. Ditch saturated fields and ensure you send proposals till you get a job. As a newbie, it's hard to break in but once you do and can satisfy your clients, you won't have to be sending so many proposals again.

Also, ensure you have stable electricity ( solar inverter strongly recommended), fast internet and a good laptop. If not, you'll be missing deadlines due to NEPA wahala.

Upskill!
There are thousands who can write, do graphics design etc...

I personally also prefer Upwork to Fiverr. On Upwork you get gigs from big companies who pay well compared to individuals that pay peanuts on Fiverr. Stopped using Fiverr since last year.
Which softwares do you use

Hello guys, there has been a lot of fuss about freelance work, I finally learnt ui/ux after a long period of reluctance. I have good laptop, good phone et al but the zeal hasn’t been that strong, I am augmenting the ux with graphics design so I can perfect it.

Each time I visit upwork as a freelancer, tones of jobs keep popping up on the graphics and ui/ux design section, haven’t even visited fiverr sef, so I want to know how viable it is getting jobs there, as a Nigerian, as a black, just want to know the hurdles you all working there face cause I am not learning this to work for Nigerians as the pay is very bad.

Please help a brother, if e no go give me better money make I kuku park face, thanks as you share your experience
