ak47mann:

good yoruba people should start developing their state Lagos is over populated,so go home and fix your state now ACN is running SW they should show the rest of Nigeria what they can do,

You have a point but not every state in Nigeria should be as developed as Lagos. Some states should be left as is it to preserve their natural beauty. . . .MO

We just need to develop the state and it shall be beautiful. Fix the roads first and foremost, put the state up for tourism for revenue etc.

Can you just imagine what the mallams have done? Let us get our hands on the foolish police who is protecting these people. The day my people will wake up and stop this nice approach they have towards outsiders will be a better day.

Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by EkoIle1: 10:25pm On Jul 06, 2011
This thread is definitely one of the silliest and shallowest on NL.

Cleanest state in Nigeria sounds so absurd, it's basically a reflection of the usual ignorance a lot of people display around here. Nigeria itself is not a clean country and every state in Nigeria is blessed with some level of cleanliness and dirtiness and if I might add, all the states are struggling with trash and dirtiness.

How do you even determine such nonsense like what's clean and dirty anyways?

Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by DonPedro21(m): 10:41pm On Jul 06, 2011
we really need to see the markets in all the mentioned state before we can conclude. But honestly the south-west is nothing to write home about. with all due respect, I think that's because most Yoruba's are naturally dirty.
Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by tpia5: 10:49pm On Jul 06, 2011
@ topic

it should be neatest city or town, not state.

Most of the states are forests anyway, especially in the south.
Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by GAR3TH(m): 11:46pm On Jul 06, 2011
As much as I love my country I can not bend reality. There is no state in Nigeria that is truly clean or developed. They all have their nice areas, and their "clean" city centers but none of them are worthy to be call modern. In all Nigerian cities as soon as you go out of the city center or even take a Right hand turn off a beautiful road you will see your self driving through a slum. The only place in Nigeria in which we can call "develop" is the FCT Abuja.  And since the FCT is not a state it cant be counted as the neatest state.

In my opinion, coming in a far far far ffffaaaarrrrrr second place from Abuja is Cross Rivers. No other state can come close to it in any terms. Its one of the few states in Nigeria that tourist from around the world come to for vacation. hell I wont even mind nor will i be embarrassed taking my American friend there.

But don't get me wrong, their are slums and poverty in cross rivers, its just not on the same scale as other states.

As for the rest of the states, they all arent impressive, yes they have good areas but overall they are way below standard.

If I had to scale Nigerian "states" in terms of neatness from a scale of 1 to 10 it will go like this: Abuja (not a state) = 10 Cross rivers = 2 the rest ≤ 1

But I know state are developing, In 5 years that list will change for the better.
Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by odumchi: 11:57pm On Jul 06, 2011
@ Eko Ile

It looks like you are only sour because Lagos is among the dirtiest cities in Nigeria. cheesy

To answer your question, a citys cleanliness is judged by the amount of air, land and water pollution it has. If it's streets are littered with refuse, it's water system is contaminated and or it's air quality is lower than those around it than it is effectively a "dirty" city. But dirty is a relative term, many Africabs might think of Johannesburg as a clean city while in European standards it's a slum. But generally, the odds are against cities with larger populations since more people = more cars, which equals more air pollution which equals dirtier water.
Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by Nobody: 12:51am On Jul 07, 2011
As for me all Nigerian cities are dirty hell holes. The best neatest state should go to Cross Rivers.
Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by mensdept: 1:02am On Jul 07, 2011
I guess we have low expectations as a people, or rather, our militarized experience has allowed for us to see our abilities as being inferior to others. In other words, only Abuja can be considered the best place (state/city/part) in Nigeria. Calabar, Enugu, or Ekiti state cannot boast of being world class, no int'l airport, no highway system, no major attraction, no constant power, etc.
Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by Nobody: 1:13am On Jul 07, 2011

Neatest not world class! Abuja is not even a world-class city, not near it!

The area Abuja occupied is eyesore . Try to visit areas outside of the developed part of Abuja you will be surprised of the sq squalor and shanties you will see.

I come clean and real in my analysis with the least bias.Calabar unarguably is by far the cleanest city in Nigeria.

I have travelled to all the cities apart from the ones in Borno,Adamawa,Taraba,Sokoto and Kebbi State.

Owerri is 2nd and I will not give 3rd because many others like Jos,Kaduna,Bauchi,Ilorin,Minna,Enugu are on the same level.

Enugu would have been high on my list but I was dissappointed by the state of infrastructure at the Abakpa area.Very disgusting!!
One might be deceived by the look of Chime Avenue,GRA,Independence Layout and Trans-Ekulu.Ogui,Holy Ghost and the main township area.

Chime did well but more needs to be done.

Owerri Filthy, Okorocha Promises Solution

Owerri — A week after the inauguration of Governor Rochas Okorocha in Owerri, the Imo State capital, an outbreak of epidemic is looming following the presence of mountainous heaps of refuse in virtually all streets of the city.

In streets like Douglas, Wetheral, Tetlow as well as School road, including Ekeonunwa market, heaps of refuse dumps that emit offensive odour stare the people on the face as they conduct their daily businesses in the midst of the giant garbage.

Rubbish in Owerri and other cities of the state which hitherto were neat because the junks were cleared as they were dumped by their residents was abandoned immediately after the defeat of the former governor of the state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, at the governorship poll by Governor Okorocha on May 6, 2011.

Investigations by the Daily Independent showed that the immediate past administration did not pay the contractors evacuating the wastes before the election but an understanding that they would be paid after the election was reached, prompting the waste disposal contractors to continue work until after the governorship election.

However, following the trend of event, which saw to the election of Okorocha as governor and not the man whose administration pledged to service their debts after the elections, the contractors abandoned the work until they are paid.

As a result, Owerri has become the most environmental degraded city East of the Niger, as residents fear that if the present administration does not embark on immediate clearing of the refuse, an epidemic such as cholera, hepatitis, typhoid and other diseases caused by dirty environment may sweep the town.

A resident of Owerri, Nwanozie Kingsley, who spoke on the development, blamed the poor state of the environment in Owerri to the former administration and pleaded with Governor Okorocha to order without delay the evacuation of the dumps and restore sanity to the city.

In his reaction to the dumps, Okorocha assured the people that a comprehensive approach to make Owerri a clean city by clearing all the heaps of dumps immediately is on the way, adding that the government has contracted a foreign firm to handle the waste disposal programme of Owerri and other cities like Orlu and Okigwe.

Meanwhile, Okorocha has directed all former political officeholders in the state to return all government vehicles and property in their possession within 48 hours or face the full weight of the law.

The vehicles are to be returned to the director of State Security Service (SSS) in Owerri.

Like I said, this is a silly and pointless thread, our towns and cities are all dirty.
Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by Solozzo(m): 1:55am On Jul 07, 2011
Lets see some photos of Calabar please.

We should also show the bad parts of town in the cities we are proposing as cleanest and dirtiest. This would help the govs to act appropriately. Let's see market places, suburbs were people live and work please.

Re: Nigeria's Neatest State by ZnO: 2:30am On Jul 07, 2011
This Eko Ile is a big fool. Everyone knows Onitsha is dirty and I even said Anambra is the 4th or so dirtiest state, all due to Onitsha
What was your point again about Onitsha? It still does not negate the fact that Lagos is the dirtiest. Why not post photos of Boundary (Ajegunle) Makoko, Orile, Agege and Oshodi markets amongst others?

This is what is called filthy in Owerri.Where else?

1. You can cut and dice as much as you want, but Filth is filth filth regardless where it's located. You can not dictate where and what should be dirty or clean, and you can not have it both ways.

2. You asserted that Owerri is the second leanest place in Nigeria, but the governor himself just humbly admitted in the article that I posted that the state is filthy and he's willing and ready to do something about it.

3 The street in the pic I posted is not in some random village somewhere, it's obviously a major road in Owerri. Just look at the pic, people are dumping trash right there next to the big dumpster instead of the dumpster itself.

4. The other poster said something about dirty markets and I posted one located right under his  nose.

The fact is, ours is a dirty country and you people's ethnic mine is better than yours mentality is not helping nobody but your shallow and depthless minds.

Apart from you running your mouth on NL about some flawed and misguided rubbish, what have you done to make your society a better place for your people?

@ ZnO the resident re.tard. Unfortunately for you, I've never asserted that my state is the cleanest, even the most developed societies can not make that claim, such silly talk is reserved for shallow and ignorant re'tards like you.
