Kholiwe:There are about 3billion men give or take. What is a constant amongst majority of men is the protection of women and children when there's problems. We see it among mammals too. Those men that you listen to complain will sacrifice their lives for their partners and children. Sometimes you think it's because we want to be heroes when most times it's just how it is. I grew up thinking like this. When I got married, it opens you up to a whole other level of responsibility to your partner.. You are legit making a vow to protect with your life and that becomes second nature to you. Of course like everything there will be outliers for sure but even some of those outliers will react to certain things because it's your nature. So again you are not a man. You don't know how we think or what we feel at every second of our existence. Please do not reduce what it means to be a man to talking points in forums. I can't even begin to cover what it means to be a man. Don't tell us we are being 2nd class or that we shame men who want to speak up. Those same men still wear the badge of pride when everything passes and the women and children are safe. 2 Likes |

liveLongNprospa:Lol your nature is not to protect women. It's shameful you can't see how you have been conditioned due to Gender stereotypes and patriarchy over the years to thank that a woman needs your protection and care. Those are things rooted in benevolent sexism like I told you before. Same way patriarchy has forced women to see men as masters to be worshipped which leads to toxic masculinity. You are defending being oppressed and wearing it like a badge. We have seen Men being shamed because they don't want to conform to gender stereotypes. They are Nigeria men in Sudan who don't gives two fecks about the women there and would jump on the first bus but due to pressure and fake masculinity would shut up and go along it. |

liveLongNprospa:Is it not your fellow men that are fighting against gender stereotypes and organizing Men rights movement? Is it not your fellow men who suffer abuse in marriages but can't come out and seek help due to toxic masculinity and for fear of being shamed by his fellow men? Is not men like you that suffer rape but can't talk about because they will be seen as weak? |

seankafor: See ehh, I know how very easy it is to dunk on the "feminism movement" in order to appear cool, to feel fly especially in spaces and environments like these that are predominantly male dominated. You know, just like a bully who oppresses a weakling to the cheering and ovation of others too timid or unwilling to challenge the bad ordeal. Maybe a good context or reminder of how far we've come as a society and what the feminist movement has achieved especially in the last few decades for women will rehabilitate this ignorant view of women you have consistently had. 1. Many years ago, women did not have the right to vote not to talk of even contesting for any leadership positions. Today their voices are now heard as equally as men. 2. Women had no say in their choice of marriage. Her family decided for her who she married (still happens in some societies today) but it has largely subsided. 3. A woman who wasn't a virgin was basically ostracized in the society and unmarried in society. Very different from the man. (Still happens albeit in a different form, with the different standards set for men and women who are promiscuous with sex). The man who loves sex with multiple women is called a "player", the woman is called a whore_and a slut_. 4. A woman was basically viewed as a property of the man, such that a father could use his own daughter to settle a debt to someone else. So you see, the feminist movement over a 100 years have sought to seek for society to acknowledge that they are human beings in their own rights. Capable and conscious 9g making their own decisions. I pointed out here few days ago, how roles that were traditionally male dominated were being occupied more and more by females. From Police force to military to architects and others. I mean, if you go to the US, you will be shocked by the sheer number of taxi and bus drivers that are female. Roles which in Nigeria is still predominantly male. This idea of consistently dunking on the feminist movement because they seek equal rights and opportunities is wrong especially coming from black people. Another group that has been largely marginalized by other societies.. It truly pains me when I see black people stump on other minority groups. It displays a lack of self awareness. In the same US that you're condemning for these movements, black people and women rights groups have fought side by side for emancipation from subjugation but you come to a black society like ours and see the opposite happening. The feminist movement has been a force for good for women. It has seen to the rapid growth and integration of women into the society. It's unfair that men continue to use them as a punching bag while speaking from a position of privilege. And lastly it's funny pointing out this irony. Few days ago, many were sounding excited about the prospects of a first ever female governor in Nigeria but today are dunking the movement that enables such. But come to really think of this, Nigeria, one of the biggest and most prominent country in Africa is yet to have a female leader. Let that sink in and tell you how underprivileged the women in our society are. 4 Likes |
