Nigerian military confirms killing of notorious terrorists, over 40 others
The military authorities also said 159 other terrorists were arrested.

The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the killing of four notorious terrorist commanders in air strikes within the week.

They are Machika, Haro, Dan Muhammadu and Ali Alheri, popularly called Kachalla Ali Kawaje.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, made this known in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

Mr Buba, a major general, said that Machika was a top terrorist bomb expert and younger brother of notorious terrorist (Dogo Gide) while Haro and Dan Muhammadu were specialist in kidnapping and assault operations respectively.

He said a synchronised strike between air and ground forces aimed at the same target on 11 December, killed Kachalla Kawaje, a renowned terrorist leader responsible for the abduction of the students of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State.

He added that Kachalla was killed in Munya Local Government Area of Niger along with many of his foot soldiers.

According to him, the military is fast closing in on others and they will equally suffer the same fate.

Mr Buba said that air assets conducted aggressive air flights on confirmed locations active with the movement of terrorist commanders and their foot soldiers.

He added that the strikes carried out resulted in the killing of over 38 terrorist commanders and their foot soldiers, while 159 others were arrested."

But why are people not leveraging on this seúns lackadaisical attitude and build an alternative forum?

It seems las las, we ain't that tech savvy.. I mean people will jump on anything that is perceived an upgrade to nairaland..

When Twitter was doing anyhow.. mark introduced threads, it made Elon stand up and put Twitter back on pedestals..

Line one time gave WhatsApp run for it's money.. before WhatsApp sat up

Why is nobody giving this seun competition?

So Nairaland can be permanently shot down if Seun offends certain people? I hope he learn from this ugly incidence going forward.....
I believe Nairaland is big enough to have its own server, a proper App and lots of innovations. If Seun cannot do this, it is best to sell or partner with more knowledgeable tech people. This is Africans biggest Forum for fvck sake....

On the issue of fake consumable items ranging from alcoholic drinks, non-alcoholic beverages, soy sauce, etc. tranding this week, I think the issue has only confirmed my long-held opinion that majority of Nigerians do not care about important issues. They just want to MEMEfify, catch cruise and joke around with serious issues instead of putting on their thinking cap and ask pertinent questions.

I watched in awe how people turned the whole issue to memes sharing on twitter threads, catching cruise with different names of AMOY soy sauce (which suggests the product has been massively counterfeited), A bottle of PEPSI with the counterfeited name POPSI, etc. Some people even tribalized the issue.

Yesterday when I got home, I checked my kitchen cabinet to check the AMOY soy sauce I bought the last time I went shopping groceries and like every other person I confirmed it's the counterfeit I bought from a popular retail store. The first thing that came to my mind is to check the NAFDAC reg number and as expected it carries a NAFDAC number.

Now the question I think most people should be asking is: Did NAFDAC indeed register the product and issued that NAFDAC number? If yes, how come NAFDAC issued a registration number for a counterfeit product?

If No, why has NAFDAC not come out to tell us before now that any AMOY soy sauce that looks in so so way and has this particular NAFDAC reg number did not pass through them and as such we should avoid them? As in they can inform us that the distributors of the soy sauce forged the reg number on the body of the product and tell us to avoid them.

All I'm saying is; Kudos to NAFDAC for the recent busts of producers of fake consumables, but NAFDAC still needs to up their game. SPAR even posted the soy sauce they have in their stores in a bid to convince customers they sell the original AMOY, but a twitter user busted their bubble when he posted the original one from the chinese manufacturer and it differs from what they(SPAR) posted suggesting they are also selling counterfeit.

The problem a competitor will face is that Seun started when some of us don't even have access to affordable internet. A lot of old users are emotionally attached to Nairaland and it will take more than an app and a more refined UI to drag them to the competitor's new platform. Like me now, na this nairaland I gain admission into university; it will take a whole new innovative product offfering for a competitor to win me over completely.

I think it's best Seun either steps up or sell to any of these young tech boys let them do their thing.

Another important question is, how can fake products be identified?

I think a brand's product should have a unique code that can be used to confirm the product's authenticity via the official website of the brand.

I am talking about something similar to the IMEI of a phone.

But the problem is that they use original containers and pour fake inside. Take engine oil for instance. If you take a 4 litre jug of Mobil 1 and pour palm oil instead, scanning the barcode will still say it's original. It's really a difficult thing to achieve.

What we can also do as some have suggested is to destroy any used can or bottle. That will go a long way.

Now that's another reasonable and important question. Maybe like a unique bar code or something that can be easily verifiable.

NAFDAC needs to move beyond occasionally busting fake products manufacturers; they should put in place measures that will ensure buyers beware. They should allow us check and determine fake products ourselves at the point of buying.

They can't do this for all produts na. There are some products they can't lay their hands on the original containers just like that.

For example Cranberry juice now, how dem wan take lay their hands on the original paper container of the juice? The conatiner is not re-usable

Even for reusable containers, there should be technology that would indicate that a container has been opened once if it has ever been opened once.

This will show a buyer who checks the bar code that the product is fake.

Technology is really helpful only if stakeholders are ready to end product counterfeiting.

Yes, not all products can be reused. Manufacturers of products, drinks and drugs must start thinking now and roll out measures to protect their brands and restore public confidence.

I guess the producers will have no choice going forward because the sales volume they will lose with buyers boycotting their products due to counterfeiting should be enough motivation for them to invest in technology. Stakeholders like NAFDAC, SON etc will also do well to sensitize buyers by running radio and TV adverts. They should stop diverting monies in their budget meant for such public awareness.
