chidekings: It was hilarious reading from those having withdrawal symptoms for days on Facebook and Twitter. Turns out those who belittle Nairaland's importance on Twitter and Facebook prior are actually its more ardent users, albeit in seeming anonymous mode. --- Also interesting to read from young people who want Nairaland taken down forever to "teach Séun a lesson". What sort of cruelty would want one to see another young person's legacy fail so badly? 10 Likes 1 Share |

Realmrsean: We are. Nairaland is a forum which serves its purpose - fast-loading pages responsive on all devices (even 2008 Java phones), 18-year SEO indexing, and seeming anonymity. There were many fora billed to upstage Nairaland but they couldn't match this. The only features Nairaland needs are: - UI upgrade - On-forum messaging - Trending feature for words and phrases. When Twitter was doing anyhow.. mark introduced threads, it made Elon stand up and put Twitter back on pedestals.. No. Elon was already overhauling Twitter for almost 9 months before Threads. Threads was and is still nothing more than a stripped-down 2012 version of Twitter. And it's why it has failed. Most of the features Elon is implementing on Twitter are features he was hinting at 5 years ago if he ever buys Twitter - which he did. Nairaland's SEO ranking CAN'T be matched. It's still the fastest Google-indexing website in Nigeria. Post on Nairaland and your post is reflecting on Google in 3 minutes. You should read "Hooked: How to build habit-forming products" by Nir Eyal then you'd understand why others stand no chance. The addictiveness of these fora aren't coincidences - there's a deliberate art to them others can't match. And that's just one reason. 3 Likes |

chidekings:There's no other platform where you get aggregation of news all in one place; not in Nigeria or any other clime. Not even Reddit does it well. If you're too busy to surf through Twitter and news websites for unfolding events and news, Nairaland does it for you. Garba Shehu, Buhari's spokesman, admitted yesterday morning that logging on to Nairaland is a nightly routine to get a pulse of the (Nigerian) sociopolity. Like I have always insisted, what we argue, reiterate, state, or counter here (even on this thread) matters. 16 Likes 1 Share |

DissTroy: This part you highlighted was the most worrying part for me. The number of people who shared with glee how much they want him never to come back up. Shows something about how we think. It's not the first time though There have been many attempted breakaway platforms before or copycat forums that failed Personally I missed the few days it was down cos it was my own source of news from various sources. I can't be scurrying news from different Twitter feeds when Nairaland can do a collation of all Naija news for me. I stay up to date with the very latest Naija happening even more than people living in Naija courtesy of Nairaland I didn't know Chelsea played until late in the evening when someone jokingly referenced it on his whatsapp status when on Nairaland I would at least have an idea 10 Likes 1 Share |

Ibime: I knew him as a faculty colleague not close friend between 1998 and say 2001. He has always been socially awkward even when he was flooring all of us in the faculty and was runaway best student before he voluntarily dropped out when he got bored of competing average students and discovered the wonders of the internet He was roomate with one of my friend in a hostel room of like 9. That was the closest I got to know him. He was a geek and born again. He was about the youngest too. The closest encounter with him was when I went to visit my friend in his room and room was congested so some of us sat on Seuns bed. He came to the room he obviously wanted to rest but he was so shy to tell anyone to stand up and he was parading around the room for hours. The other time I saw him speak up and heard his voice was when he was arguing religion with another guy like him Lateef who was a tebliq. For people like Seuun the internet was a savior as he didn't have much social skills to make real world friends and lasting relationships. He will need someone who really understands him. That's why he had problems with many of the mods and most of them quit or were fired He is the type of person who will be married to his tech job in NASA. Highly functional probably on the spectrum savant 24 Likes 6 Shares |

I think Seun has a problem with listening to people and making prompt changes. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 1:37pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
wman: What what egbon wrote up there it goes beyond Listening to people. Obviously he does listen to people, but maybe he sees the imperfection in people's suggestions and doesn't just know how to communicate such concerns to the people which will then lead to a two-way communication at the end of which a reasonable and workable decision will be reached. 2 Likes |

BlueRayDick:Some of those wishing he shuts down are still active on the forum when you can just leave if it's not working for you or not your taste 2 weekends ago a friend was sharing news with me how he housed a distant relative who just relocated from Naija. The guy never settle and not found a job yet this guy telling the story normally goes to work but that day he didn't but his guest didn't know and the guest was making a call in the house how he hated the host and prays that his so called wealth and comfort crash How can you be living under someone's roof and hope he crashes. What will he gain? Yet you sleep under his roof rent free, eat his food his pepper and salt He was now asking if he should confront the guy and chase the guy out cos it might even be a safety issue for him and his family to live with someone who hates you that much 1 Like |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 1:50pm On Dec 21, 2023 |
wman: No, it's not that. With people like Séun, you have to communicate almost in binary - pro or con. That's the way they see things. No gray areas. If you suggest feature X, you have to put numbers on the reason for it. "Nice to have features" wouldn't cut it for him. Zuckerburg is socially awkward too (or was a recluse for most parts) but he knew his flaw so outsourced the human aspect and communication to his partners. The problem with Nairaland is, it's run by a solopreneur on Séun's spectrum and he'd resist change because he's really scared of losing control since it's the one thing he has fully in control as human interactions for him are difficult. If Nairaland were a startup, VCs would flee from it even though it's a potential money-spinner. It's the reason in tech pitch decks, VCs want to see your team and would most likely invest in a startup with 2 or 3 co-founders and a defined founding team so the others can cover for the shortcomings if one of the founders is like Séun or overrule him. Solo founders are at the button pick for this sole reason these days. Anything else would incite a hostile takeover. 18 Likes 3 Shares |

raumdeuter: I won't even confront him, I will just tell him to leave that I'm expecting my relatives from outside the country and I need to make the house in good shape before they come. I will not even allow him stay up to a week after the call. Some people's heart are just wicked for no reason. 1 Like |

BlueRayDick:the reason is envy and jealousy. Truth is, such people wish they find themselves in the situation they envy and are jealous of. So, since they're not in that situation or condition, they hate, envy or jealous those in such situation/condition. Ever wonder why you'll see a guy condemn sleeping with prostitutes because he's a broke ass, but, as soon as he hammers.... 8 Likes 1 Share |

From naptu2 2012: Adsense wahala. Result = Nairaland 2 Seun is going to have to migrate to another platform. His admitting that NL was shut down by cloud flare for 'abuse' means there will be a uptick in such reports if nairaland is reinstated on cloudflare Since cancel culture is so popular and there are so many butthurt pikins with an axe to grind. As to proposals to 'improve' or sell Nairaland - a lot of founders can be reluctant to do that and for good reason. I have seen multiple products get sold to other companies and go to shit Twitter is a prime example. Seun could sell this platform and the next thing is you need a subscription or a real email or it starts scraping your data for Google. I have had the experience where some product I use were bought over. One app I paid a lifetime license for. Next thing the new owners tried to slap me with subscription. If you are attached to the product you created it can be galling seeing it turn to something else. How does jack dorsey feeling watching Twitter devolve into a far right cesspool? 1 Like |

afrodoc2: Its more than that imho People who take the internet too personal hold Seun responsible for the tribalism, red pillism, political divisions etc. Meanwhile Nairaland is really just a mirror of what Nigeria really is. In the early days it was abroadians, upper middle class and people with good jobs who had internet and therefore access to Nairaland. There was a different level of discourse, but it was not truly representative of Nigeria. Now that internet is cheap, the masses have access and we are seeing how majority of Nigerians think and reason. Of course people are cool with their own tribalism /sexism/ political/leaning /religious stand leanings but want others to be policed. When this does not happen they say Seun is a bigot 9 Likes 1 Share |

joseph1832: Oddly, they do not realize Nairaland going down is Nigeria's loss. For all of its flaws, Nairaland is Nigeria's oldest and richest digital library. 18 years worth of everything Nigeria and Nigerian. The closest is allafrica.com but it's less than 1/5000 of Nairaland. Take Nairaland down and the ChatGPT they so enjoy would return half-baked results on Nigerian issues and topics, for example. 8 Likes 1 Share |

afrodoc2: This is actually what happens to big businesses everywhere. Once you reach a particular size, what you want is stability. We complain about the state of Nairaland, but if Seun does something as simple as changing the site layout, people will be up in arms. 1 Like 1 Share |

GloriousGbola: There is a fine line between stability and stagnation. Maintaining the status quo is fine as long as it is not leading to negative experiences. Big businesses also evolve with the times and keep rebranding themselves to keep up with changes in the business ecosystem. 2 Likes |
