yeah right!
Journalism and policing in Nigeria are really effed up.
I don't see any way 50 people will lie in wait for their death.
Every single passenger died except the police escort and driver.
There is more to this.
sometime last year a similar story eruptedand the police later had to parade the driver of the bus to the press who(driver) denied the story and said it was a mere accident.
I just believe the journalist is just swallowing and regurgitatingthe official police BS and I strongly believe that most highway robberies, bank heists, kidnapping and high profile assassinations are carried out by members of the Nigerian Police.

We can't just let this matter die like the one that happened two years ago. The number of dead people is far more than that experienced in most religious crisis. If we shout so much about religious crisis, we should scream more about the total failure of security in this Country.

The press has a huge role to play, and I expect the media to give top priority to the continuous coverage of this story for the next one month.

All this rubbish that people should avoid night journey must stop!!! If robbers start doing this in broad daylight, will we be advised to stop day-time journey? Protect the citizens!! That is one of the reasons you were elected!!

More importantly, why do we have so many robbers in the Country? Can their sponsors be found? Can we solve a few socio-economic problems that drive the lazy, evil scum to rob?

It just feels bad that this disaster has happened again, my prayer is just that this doesn't happen again cos, it seems the men of the underworld are starting to make this a normal trend. But the passengers on their part are very funny how would they be told to lie on the ground and then they just do so, it's better to run and risk been shot to death by the gun and then still have the chance of escaping death than to die in such a disgusting way . Also, I don't know why people are having this obloquy against the government, what has the government got to do with this tragedy? . May the souls of these people and the souls of all the faithful department through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace. AmenMay the souls of these people and the souls of all the faithful department through the mercy of God rest in perfect peace. Amen

This is definately boko haram out to kill southerners in a different way. which armed robber will tell 50, i mean 50 guys to lie in the middle of d road for nothing. even d one that happened 2 years ago that d picture surfaced in d internet is not as horrific as this. Boko Haram knows that if they openely throw bombs in Oshodi or Onitsha dat the south will retaliate. so i suspect that armed banditry is now their next jihad option. until jonathan learns to combat likes of sanusi, boko haram, mallam ciroma etc, its bloodshed that will keep happening in dis silly entity called nigeria.

"Islamists do worse things, the boko harams could be responsible"

So sorry Redsun , you want to divert this to the same tribal and religious nonsence that returned a corrupt and incapable party led by a clueless person to preside over us. We all know that 80% of armed robbers are Igbos and if they happen to be Boko Haram as well - then God save us.
Re: 50 Crushed To Death On Abuja-okene Highway by stagger: 12:13pm On Aug 03, 2011
Everyone knows that the road to Abuja that passes through Okene is always waylaid by robbers. Why should people add to that already clear and present danger by travelling at night?

In the END time

Prophet Muhammed (SAW) gave signs of last days as War and Anarchy

In a hadith, the Prophet (saas) described the End Times in this way:

Allah's Messenger (saas) said: "The Harj (will increase)." They asked, "What is the Harj?" He replied, "(It is) killing (murdering), (it is) murdering (killing)."(Bukhari)

The meaning of harj mentioned in the above hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (saas) is "utter confusion" and "disorder," which is not to be limited to one particular area, but will be widespread throughout the world.

May Allah forgive them and rest their souls in Aljanat, Accept Qur'an as your guidiance, A salam
Re: 50 Crushed To Death On Abuja-okene Highway by nagoma(m): 12:19pm On Aug 03, 2011
The Minister Maku's response is that we should stop travelling at night. Is that his best solution ? is that how other countries solve such problems?Where there is no government you shouldn't travel at night. People did travel because they thought there was a government to protect them. Isn't there a government in Nigeria?

Shame on you. Everybody knows that every Aboki goes around with a dagger hidden in his kaftan and is ready to waste human life at d slightest chance. I believe this is not an ordinary armed robbery attack, these are bandits and cold blooded killers, most likely boko haram. In maiduguri they have been robbing banks and killing police men and market women, burning churches at will. They have taken this slaughter to the next level by hitting the highways.
Until jonathan can stand up against elements like Sanusi, boko haram, mallam ciroma etc, the country may continue witnessing these endless bloodshed.

Your mindset is capable of complicating the already complex situation.  You sounded so definite about the culprits of this heinous crime and looked for utterly presumptuous reasons to pin it on Boko Haram.  Worse still, you did not back your declarative but incendiary statement with a single strong premise. You went further to declare Boko Haram as the perpetrators of this heart-wrenching crime without any form of investigation!

In order not to fan the ember of tribalism/religion and offend the sensibilities of others, I advise you to desist from hastily holding persons or groups responsible for any event (good or bad) until there is sufficient reason to do so.

What do we say?
Do we blame those who chose night to travel?
Do we blame the govt for not putting adequate security on ground?
I must say we all have a share of the blame.
If we avoid night travel, we are surely going to reduce the rate at which people lost their lives.

I pray for these gentle souls to rest in peace.
This is what the national assembly should be looking at and not for tenure elongation and finding ways of cutting corners.

I sympathize with the families dearly. What a great lost to the NATION?

the bigotry on this nairaland is on the all time high. Can u imagine some people blaming boko haram for this despite the article stating that a similar incidence happened about 2 yrs ago? Smh. Unbelievable. Rip to the victims.

And who is responsible for these hardship and killings. I think it is more of frustration and economy rather than religion !!!

@ valicious1. Looks like you're one of the people that are benefiting from this monkey system called government of Nigeria and that's why you're fast to rush to their defence.
Who on earth is in charge of security in the country?
The one that happened on Benin-Ore road was it in the night for goodness sake?
Please stop thinking through your anus better do it with your brain
