The beautiful spring weather is long gone, and everyone is experiencing less sunshine and more rain. For most people, this is not a problem, but for others, an increased chance of getting sick can be a major setback. There is a bit of truth in the saying that winter makes you stronger, but that doesn’t mean that you should let the cold and the wet drag you down. Here are 4 ways to stay healthy during the rainy season.

1. Eat healthy foods When it comes to eating, the most important thing is to eat the right foods. For example, celery is full of vitamins, and it helps you stay hydrated by supplying your body with plenty of fluids. Drinking lots of water and other juices is good for your overall health, and it can help you stay healthy when it’s cold and wet outside, especially during cold and flu season.

2 Get a flu shot: When it comes to staying healthy during flu season, one of the best things you can do is get a flu shot. Flu shots help protect you against the influenza virus, which can cause severe respiratory illness. Symptoms of the flu include fever, chills, body aches, and fatigue. Getting a flu shot is the best way to avoid getting the flu, and it’s also important to practice good hygiene habits like washing your hands regularly and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.

3 Wash your hands regularly Wash your hands regularly to avoid getting sick. Handwashing is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family from getting sick. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s effective. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends washing your hands in these situations:

• Before, during, and after preparing food

• Before eating food

• After using the toilet

• After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet

• After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing

• After touching an animal or animal waste

• After handling pet food or pet treats

• After touching the garbage

Wash your hands regularly to prevent the spread of germs and illness. Be sure to wash them for at least 20 seconds, using soap and water. You can also use hand sanitizer, but make sure it contains at least 60% alcohol. Avoid touching your face, and if you do, wash your hands immediately afterward.

4 Stay hydrated: The rainy season is a great time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and cooler temperatures. However, it's important to stay hydrated during this time of year. Drinking plenty of water will help you avoid getting sick and will keep your body functioning properly. Make sure to carry a water bottle with you when you go outside, and drink regularly throughout the day.
